The music in Club Eden throbbed like a second pulse, low and relentless, stitched into every wall and mirrored ceiling. Raven moved through it like a shadow, her black silk dress slipping over her skin as though it belonged there. The new bartender barely looked up when she smiled at him, just a flash of dimples, the kind that made men think they were being let in on a secret, but tonight wasn’t about teasing drinks out of strangers. Tonight was about information.

The journalist in her, the part that had never stopped hunting, even when Jaxon’s touch made her want to forget, had sharpened itself again. Zane was growing bolder, and Jaxon was growing colder, and somewhere between them she was starting to lose herself.

The first step was easy: find the weak link.

Club Eden’s assistant manager, Viktor Carro, was exactly the kind of man who thought loyalty was a luxury he couldn’t afford. Slick, ambitious, perpetually underpaid.

Raven had watched him long enough to see the pattern: the wa

The rain hadn’t stopped for hours. It streamed down the tall windows of the penthouse like a curtain of glass needles, the gray sky outside smudging the city into a blur. Raven stood near the far wall, arms folded tight, watching as Jaxon’s men dragged a bound figure across the floor and shoved him into the chair in the center of the room. The man’s name was Dominic Sabatini. On paper, he was nothing, a low-level earner, one of a hundred faces working under Jaxon Morreau, but two nights ago, intel had surfaced that someone inside Jaxon’s crew had been feeding information to outsiders. Names, routes, payment trails. Jaxon had spent exactly thirty-six hours combing through phone records, shipment logs, and whispered rumors, and this morning he gave the order, "bring me the rat."Now Dominic sat there trembling, wrists zip-tied to the arms of the chair, face pale, wet from the rain and sweat. His eyes darted to Raven as if she were a lifeline. She didn’t move.Jaxon was calm, too calm. H

Laterr that morning, while she was getting out of the shower, Raven heard the sound of Jaxon’s voice, not soft or soothing, but low, clipped, purposeful. He was on the phone, speaking in the language of power, not comfort.“Dubai will confirm by noon. Make sure our end is ready,” he said, pacing the length of the room, shoulders drawn tight. “If they hesitate, remind them of what happened to Salvi’s shipment last spring. No loose ends.”Raven stayed stayed the the bathroom, lingering a little while longer while she listened to the weight in his tone, each word cutting clean. This wasn’t the Jaxon who had held her through the night when she shook with terror. This was the Don. Cold. Precise. Dangerous.By the time she came out he had already hung up and pulled on a tailored black suit. The transformation was complete, the man she loved buried under a layer of armor.“You’re leaving?” her voice cracked more than she intended. He turned. “Meetings.” No kiss. No lingering glance. Just bus

The night was quiet, too quiet for a city that never slept. Raven sat curled on the leather sofa of Jaxon’s penthouse, knees drawn up, blanket around her shoulders though the room was warm. Her hair clung damp to her temples. She’d showered twice already, as if water could scrub off the memory of Zane’s hands, Zane’s voice, the smell of his lair. The elevator chimed softly behind her. Jaxon stepped out, still in the black shirt he’d worn when he tore through Zane’s men to get to her. The shirt was stained with dried blood, none of it his own. He moved like a man made of stone, face set, shoulders heavy.Raven looked up, but neither of them spoke right away. The silence pressed like a third person in the room.He poured two glasses of whiskey without asking if she wanted one, set one on the table in front of her, and stayed standing. “You should rest,” he said finally, voice low, rough.“I tried.” Her voice sounded alien to her own ears, flat and sharp at the same time. “Every time I c

“Good. Let him think he’s ready. By the time I’m done, he won’t even see me coming.” Jaxon’s voice was flat, a blade without shine. Marco had seen him angry before, but this wasn’t anger, it was focus and that was far more dangerous.“Crew’s ready when you are,” Marco said quietly.“Not yet.” Jaxon spread a map across the table, marking routes in red ink. “We hit his perimeter first, bleed him slow. I want his guards twitchy and tired when I walk through that door.”Marco hesitated. “And Raven?”Jaxon’s hand tightened on the pen. “She’s alive. Zane wouldn’t kill her, not yet. He thinks she’s leverage.” A muscle ticked in his jaw. “He’s wrong.”Raven sat on the edge of the leather sofa, wrists raw from the ropes. The lamp buzzed overhead, throwing long shadows that made the room feel smaller than it was. Zane Morreau stood near the window, phone in hand, watching the rain streak down the glass like prison bars. His grin was gone now, replaced by something brittle. Paranoia crept throug

“Tomorrow we make them pay. Painstakingly. Every last one of them.” Those were the words ringing in Raven’s ears when she finally left Jaxon’s office in the gray haze before dawn. Her legs still felt unsteady, not from fear but from the sheer heat of his presence, his promise, his claim. Whatever rift had been between them was gone, burned away by something fiercer than love, sharper than anger. The city outside the club was quiet. The kind of hush that comes before a storm.Zane Morreau was having the kind of morning that could make a man believe in curses. First, three of his offshore accounts were frozen without warning. Then one of his lieutenants, his own cousin, was found stuffed into a trunk, alive but barely breathing, with a silver coin pressed into his bloody palm.A coin Jaxon used to leave as a warning, back when they were boys running street corners. Zane hadn’t seen that coin in years. He sat in the back of his armored SUV, swirling whiskey in a crystal tumbler, watching
