“You really never learn, do you?” Mr. Romero said coldly, staring down at the man kneeling before him.

Blood trickled from the man’s mouth, a deep cut visible on his forehead. His body trembled slightly; he had clearly just endured a brutal beating from Romero’s men.

They were inside a private gambling den.

And the man on his knees was Seren’s father.

A man is buried deep in debt after losing everything to gambling.

I can win it back,” he pleaded.“Win it back?” Romero scoffed. “How many times have you said that? You don’t have any money left. What exactly do you plan to bet now? Do you even have anything to pay me with?”“I’ll find a way,” the man insisted desperately.Romero’s expression darkened.“Get him out of my sight. I might lose my patience and kill him,” he snapped. Two of his men immediately grabbed Seren’s father, dragging him toward the exit.“I know the son of the Head of De Luna!” the man suddenly shouted.Romero froze. With a small gesture, he

“Ow---” Seren groaned as she woke up, clutching her head. A dull ache throbbed through her temples. She blinked, looking around. She was in her room. But how did she get here? The last thing she remembered, she was at Club Athena. With Dean. Because she was upset with Rafael, she drank the glass of alcohol in one go. It was her first time drinking, and she hadn’t expected to get drunk from just one glass. She glanced at the digital clock on her bedside table. Her eyes widened.“Shit---I’m late!”She jumped out of bed, rushed to the bathroom, and quickly got ready. If she didn’t hurry, she’d definitely miss her class. She froze the moment she stepped into the dining area.Rafael was there. Eating. With his father.“Seren, you’re awake. Looks like you slept in. Come, join us,” the older man said warmly.“N-No, thank you, sir. I’m already late,” she replied, stealing a glance at Rafael.A strange thought crossed her mind. Was it because she was drunk last night? Why did she feel like she

“What did you say? Where did she go?” Rafael’s voice was sharp, bordering on commanding. He was in his office, going through reports from his various businesses, when a call from one of his men interrupted him. This was the same agent he had assigned to follow Seren; he knew she hated being watched, but Rafael couldn’t take chances. The agent reported that a young woman had picked Seren up from her university. Rafael instructed him to follow Seren closely and make sure she stayed safe. The agent added that Seren had taken her mother to a police station earlier and that they had seen a man pick them up afterward. Rafael also demanded a picture of the station Seren had visited.“Where is she now?” Rafael asked, standing abruptly.“She’s heading to Club Athena, boss,” the agent replied.“Club Athena? What’s she planning to do there?” Rafael muttered, tension tightening his jaw.At Club Athena, Seren sat alone, the events at the police station still fresh in her mind. The heated confronta

“I’m not helping you,” Seren said coldly, her gaze fixed on her mother. “I’m helping her.” She didn’t wait for a response.Turning away from the cell, she walked straight toward one of the officers and spoke to him about the bail. Her voice was steady, composed—but inside, everything felt heavy. This wasn’t how she imagined seeing them again. Not like this.In her mind, they were supposed to be living well, comfortably, even happily, after everything. After the money. But looking at them now…It was as if nothing had changed.Or worse---As if everything had fallen apart.“Thank you, Seren.” Anna’s voice was filled with relief as their mother was finally released. Without hesitation, Anna rushed toward her and wrapped her arms around her tightly.Seren stood a few steps away, watching. Their mother remained silent.Distant. Unreadable.“Let’s go,” Seren said after a moment, her voice quieter this time. “You need to get those injuries treated.”Her mother shook her head dismissively. “I

Anna didn’t say another word as she led Seren away. They moved quickly through the streets, her grip firm, almost desperate—as if she was afraid Seren might disappear if she let go.Seren followed in silence, unease slowly building in her chest.Until--They stopped.Seren’s steps faltered. Her eyes lifted and widened.A police station. The moment the realization sank in, she instinctively pulled her hand free.Confusion flooded her mind.“Why are we here?” she asked, her voice edged with suspicion. “Why did you bring me here?” Anna didn’t answer.Instead, she reached for Seren’s hand again, her fingers tightening as she gently—but insistently pulled her inside.Seren frowned but allowed herself to be led.Inside, the air felt heavy, sterile, suffocating. The faint sound of ringing phones and murmured conversations echoed through the space. They approached the information desk. Anna spoke to one of the officers, her voice low but urgent. Seren barely paid attention until she heard a na

“Marry me.”The words hung in the air, heavy and unreal.Seren blinked, her thoughts stalling as she stared at Dean. For a moment, she wondered if she had misheard him. But the look on his face, earnest, unguarded, told her otherwise. He was serious.A strange feeling settled in her chest.Yes, she liked him. She had admired him for a long time, long before she ever set foot into this university. But marriage? They barely knew each other. Was this just a spur-of-the-moment decision? A fleeting emotion he hadn’t thought through? And yet. What unsettled her more was not his question, but her own silence.Because she wasn’t rejecting it. Not even close.Instead, her mind drifted somewhere else, somewhere darker. If I marry someone else, would Rafael finally let me go?Her breath caught. His voice echoed in her memory, cold and unyielding.“The only way you can escape me… is if you kill me… or pay your debt ten times over.” Seren’s fingers tightened around the bat still in her hand.Killi

“Rafael.” Seren’s voice came out in surprise the moment she stepped into the mansion and saw him seated in the dining hall with his father. “Seren, hija, you’re back,” the old man greeted warmly. “Come, join us.” She didn’t respond. Silently, she walked over and took the empty seat beside Rafael.
