Belle was caught up in her new routines at college, and without realizing it, a full moon had passed. However, she could never forget Bastian. She hid her sadness behind smiles and laughter, whether in front of her parents or her new friends in college.

Only Eve knew the truth, even though they hadn't been close for long. Despite being extroverted, easygoing, and blunt, Eve was honest.

“Are you just going to sit there staring at handsome guys without even trying to actually get to know them, Belle?” Eve asked one afternoon while they were having lunch in the campus cafeteria.

Belle sighed while chewing her sandwich. She spoke softly. “Define ‘get to know.’”

“Maybe you’ll find the right guy. Someone you can lean on,” Eve chuckled.

Belle squinted for a second and then quickly shook her head. Maybe she was just old-fashioned, or perhaps it was that lingering curiosity that kept tugging at her heart.

Win Bastian’s heart? Probably. But more than that, Belle wanted Bastian to accept hers. T

For three months, Belle drowned herself in a routine of nothing but campus, home, and the library. On some weekends, she went out with Eve for an hour or two, but that was it. The emptiness in her chest never went away.Still, Belle accepted it. Emptiness felt better—because at least she didn't have to feel anything at all.She kept herself insanely busy just to forget about Bastian. Once quiet, Belle became even more withdrawn. Even Eve, with all her energy, couldn't always break through Belle's walls."Earth to Bellatrix." Eve waved her palm in front of Belle's face.Belle, buried in a book, looked up. "What is it?" "You heard me, right?" "Yeah, I listened." Belle closed her book. "What were you saying?"Eve rolled her eyes. "There's a party this Saturday. At my classmate's beach house." "Oh…" Belle sighed. "I'm not really interested in parties, actually." Eve just nodded. "That's fine. I was just telling you. You don't have to come."The last party they went to together had be

Belle felt the pounding in her head the moment she opened her eyes. Nausea lingered in her throat, and she tried to hold it back. She groaned softly, pressing her palm to her forehead. Faintly, Belle realized her head was resting on someone’s lap. She squinted against the brightness from the light that had been turned on. Looking up, she saw Bastian’s sharp jawline. He was leaning his head against the back of the couch, eyes closed, arms folded across his chest. The place was no longer crowded—no more blasting music. Only the faint clinking of bottles being cleared away could be heard.“Bastian?” Belle whispered weakly. She glanced around the booth. Eve was asleep in her seat. Anthony was still talking with Kyle, while the other two friends were passed out on the other couch.“Urgh.” Belle groaned again as she tried to sit up.Anthony turned immediately, handing her a bottle of water. “What happened?” Belle asked. “You passed out.” Anthony let out a long sigh. “That’s why I didn’

Belle wanted to turn around and leave, but she forced herself to stay. She buried the pain in her heart under a smile. This was especially difficult when the girl with Bastian came over to her."Hi, I'm Renee," the girl said warmly as she hugged Belle and Eve as if they were old friends. "Are you Anthony's sisters?""Just her," Eve said, pointing at Belle."Oh, okay." Renee chuckled softly. "Come on, join us. Thank you for coming to my birthday party."Belle wanted to curse Anthony out for dragging her to Renee's party. But Anthony didn't know anything about her and Bastian. Their relationship was absurd and undefined."This is my sister, Belle. She just started college," Anthony said, making small talk.Anthony must have only recently learned about Renee and Bastian, too. This meant that Bastian had officially introduced Renee to his friends."Yeah, Bastian mentioned that to me. Belle is your beloved little sister, right?" Renee said, looking at Belle. There was no jealousy or sense

It was Friday night, and Belle was getting ready to go to the club with Anthony. Her mother’s voice rang out from downstairs: “Belle! Eve’s here!”Belle hurriedly grabbed her bag from the bed, stepped out of her room, and went down the stairs. At the bottom, she saw Eve wearing a long, white coat that reached down to her knees—a sight Belle wasn’t used to.“We’re going to the bonfire, right?” Eve grinned.Belle nodded. “Yeah. Anthony should be here any minute.”Mrs. Watson chuckled softly as she looked at the two girls, then slipped an arm around Belle’s shoulders, half-dragging her toward the kitchen. “I can pack some marshmallows for you to bring. How about hot chocolate in a thermos? That’ll feel nice out there,” Mrs. Watson chirped. “Or maybe some soup?”Belle and Eve exchanged glances. “Err… no, Mom. Anthony already prepared everything.”Still, Belle and Anthony were lying to their mother—they both knew how strict Mr. Watson was. Belle hated lying; it made her feel like her pa

“Pottery?” Eve burst out laughing, even though Belle was crying inside the car. Belle couldn’t help but smile, too. “My brother and his friends… they went to college for art majors,” Belle sniffled. “That’s why Anthony owns a tattoo shop. And, well, I don’t know if Bastian ever kept up with his art skills.” “Pottery,” Eve repeated. “Yeah, that.”Eve stayed quiet, staring at the entrance to the art event, which was filling up with people. Earlier, when Belle had run out in tears, Eve had been shocked and panicked. After looking into it, she realized Belle had run into Bastian.Belle didn’t spell out what exactly he had done to make her cry, but Eve was furious. Should she talk to Bastian and tell him to stop messing with Belle?“I’m gonna talk to him,” Eve decided. “No!!” Belle shook her head quickly. “It’s better if we just leave.” “Belle, I don’t want to see you like this. You saw Bastian, you cried—twice now. Don’t you see? He’s just a red flag guy taking advantage of your wea

"What are you doing?" Belle sounded defensive. "We need to talk." "I don’t want to talk to you anymore!"Belle went to open the door, but Bastian quickly gripped her shoulders. He shoved her back against the wall, trapping her so she couldn’t move. His warm breath brushed against Belle’s face, making her uncomfortable. They were way too close. Belle immediately lowered her gaze, avoiding Bastian’s eyes. She was so tense she bit down hard on her lower lip."Why, Belle?" Bastian asked. Another question. Bastian always threw out questions like bait, and she always had to answer. Belle hated it, as if she were being interrogated."I told you, I don’t want anything to do with you!" she finally snapped. "You never see your brother. You avoid everything, don’t you realize that hurts Anthony?""Does he realize he hurt me?" "Anthony is just trying to protect you!" "I don’t need any protection! I’m grown up, I can take responsibility for my own actions!"Bastian swallowed hard, trying t
