Alpha Dorris’Pov

I had slept until the early hours of the morning in my mother’s comforting hands, basking in her comfort like it was the antidote I needed to make everything fine.

She stayed there patting me gently and not leaving me because she didn’t want me to wake to my misery. I slept peacefully and soundlessly but knew when she laid me gently on the bed, and raised my legs to rest on it. She pulled the covers on me and tucked me in like I was a kid, and I slept further.

I woke in the afternoon, and stared at the rays of sun spilling in through the windows. A week ago, I had stared at those same rays and smiled because things had been well with Tara and it had all been thrilling to wake up knowing that I was going to see her.

A sigh escaped me so early in the morning, and I called for my maid who rushed in with fear. Ever since that day when I had gone on a killing spree, they had all been so unnatural around me. They had been restless and jumpy, being tense and alert like I
