ALYSSA’S POV
Ingrid and I were in the living room, waiting for our father to attend to us as he had called for our attention. For him to have called my attention to, then it was definitely something very important and I was glad to take a break from the bathroom wash.
Suddenly, we heard his heavy steps down the stairs. The way he cleared his throat, made me feel uneasy as I feared him a lot. His aura was totally cold and I ensured to always be on my best behavior whenever he was around me. But for Ingrid, he was like the sweetest father ever.
“I called you girls to make an important announcement.” He said as he had his seat across the sofa where Ingrid sat and I stood a little distance away from her.
“We all know that Lunas come from our family and it has been like that for generations. Now, it is time choose a mate for the Alpha Princes which will happen tomorrow’s night, and you, Ingrid will be the Luna.” Father informed us and my heart broke into two.
Usually, it was the first daughter they started from, and I was minutes older than her, but father had skipped me on purpose. It was definitely because he hated me, and I looked ugly especially because of the scar across my lower cheek and my neck.
Then he turned to me and had an irritated look on.
“And as for you, I don’t want to see you at the front line when our family is out to see the Alpha Princes. You are too ugly to be seen, and I do not want a single stain on our family’s pride. Also, you must put on your best behavior.” My father cautioned me, and with a broken heart I nodded.
I couldn’t protest or ask him questions because that would only mean punishment for me. So, he dismissed me and wrapped his arm around Ingrid who went to meet him. I went back to scrub the bathroom, and sighed deeply. Just when I thought I would have a chance at leaving this house finally to be with people who would love me, all hopes have been dashed away.
“Well, I guess I have no hopes of anything exciting happening tomorrow being my 18th birthday as well.” I said under my breath and sighed deeply.
As usual, Ingrid was going to get things that would make her happy, and best of all, she is going to be the one to be presented before the Alpha Princes. Lucky her. I sat at the edge of the bath tub and looked at the sky from the window and sighed again.
“I’ll be fine.”

The next day, a party was thrown for Ingrid and I still worked hard like a mid. The celebration lasted until evening when it was time for the coronation ceremony. Ingrid had been dressed well, and she was looking so pretty and attractive. And as for me, I felt so insecure because of the scar on my face.
On getting to the ballroom, my father greeted some prominent people until the Alpha Princes were said to be approaching us. I stood at the back, but the moment I saw them walking towards us, a wave of energy overwhelmed my body, and my wolf became excited as I stared at the triplets approaching us.
The first was Reynold, his hair was dark as the night, falling over his face, yet unable to shield his piercing blue eyes. His lips seemed to hold a permanent scowl on his face, despite how plump and inviting they were. And oh! His skin, covering that perfect jaw line was as smooth as porcelain.
The second of the triplets, Ryan, had lovely brown curls that turned a rare shade of gold as the light hit it. His eyes seemed to speak a thousand words that ruffled the feathers of my heart. He was as calm as a dove with those rings on his smooth slender fingers catching every eye.
The third, Reece, running a hand through his silver hair, caught the ladies off guard as he seemed to explode in ethereal beauty. His eyes, a haunting grey was fixed solely on Ingrid, my twin sister. It could make me dream.
But then, as they got closer, their intoxicating scent filled my nostrils and drew my heart closer to them. The sweet sensations and adrenaline I felt through my veins was overwhelming and right there, my wolf said the word, “Mate.”
My heart jumped in excitement and my dashed hopes became alive again. If they noticed me, they would also know I’m their mate. There was a possibility that they would choose me over Ingrid.
But I got disappointed again when they kissed Ingrid’s hands and accepted to date and consider her as their future Luna. My heart broke into a thousand pieces and I made my way out of the crowd to a secluded part of the palace and leaned against the wall. Tears filled my eyes up, but I tried my best not to allow them fall even when it burned my eyes.
“Don’t cry. Don’t cry.” I said to myself and sniffled as I raised my head to look at the sky.
Remembering when Reece gave me a flower, years ago, I thought we shared a connection, but now, it seemed like he didn’t care. My mates who are definitely sweet would now be attracted only to Ingrid.
“Hey.” I heard a soft voice and I cleaned my eyes and looked towards the direction of the voice only to see my mates.
Hope rose in my heart again and I felt happy. Did they perhaps come to see me because they cared?
“My Lords.” I called them in a low tone and my eyes fell to the floor.
“Don’t call us that. Hmm. So, you are our mate.” Reece said, and I looked at him while he checked me out.
I smiled lightly, happy that they had noticed.
“Yes.”
“Gosh. This is the biggest mistake the moon goddess has ever made.” Reece uttered, sizing me up with his eyes.
My heart dropped and it was as if a punch with blades had been driven into my heart.
“Yeah, I know right? How can she be this ugly and less attractive?” Ryan said, and folded his arms.
“We are definitely rejecting you.” Reynold finally spoke after staying silent for a while.
“No. Please don’t. Please don’t reject me.” I pleaded with my palms rubbing against each other.
“Of what use can you be? We don’t want someone as ugly as you are as our mate. Also, you are just a weak omega.” Reynold uttered coldly.
“Please don’t do this to me.” I pleaded earnestly.
I didn’t think I was ready to go through the pain of being rejected. My heart felt so fragile and I couldn’t bear the thought of going through excruciating pain.
“Please I’ll do anything to satisfy you guys. Whatever you want me to do, I’ll do it. Just don’t reject me.” I continued to rub my palms together desperately, hoping that they would show me mercy.
“Hmmm. Really? You will do anything?” Reece asked me, and I nodded my head almost immediately. “Good.” He said, then turned to his brothers and they had a little meeting which I barely heard what they said to each other until they walked back to me.
“The only thing you can do is to become our personal slave. And when I say personal slave, it means you will do just anything for us; on the bed and off the bed.”
237Alyssas PovThe morning sun filtered through my window in warm streaks, casting golden shapes across the stone floor. For a moment, I just laid there in the silence, soaking in the softness of the sheets and the calm of the room. I could hear birds singing outside, and in the distance, the faint sound of someone sweeping the courtyard stones. It was peaceful, real, tangible peace, and I let myself enjoy it.Suddenly, a gentle knock on the door broke the stillness.“Come in,“I called, sitting up.One of the Moon Valley maids stepped in with a respectful bow. Breakfast is being served, Miss Alyssa. You and Sir Gary are expected in the dining hall.I thanked her, got dressed, and made my way through the quiet corridors to where Gary was already waiting. He smiled when he saw me and gave a small, approving nod.Sleep well?he asked.I nodded, unable to suppress a smile. I think I had the best nights sleep in weeks. He chuckled. It shows. But won’t that seem like you’re not having a nic
236Alyssa’s Pov(An hour later)The moment the tall stone gates of Moon Valley opened; a wave of relief flooded through me. I, Gary and the two guards had been riding in silence for the last hour, our horses slow and cautious as we followed the curve of the winding forest path after Moon Valley had provided us with horses.Though we hadn’t been discovered by the enemy pack members we spotted earlier, I couldn’t help but glance over my shoulder now and then. Even with Gary, the two guards at my side and the escorts, I felt uneasy like I was being watched by something unseen. But all of that melted away the instant we passed through the gates. The Moon Valley Packs compound was nothing like the Spring Packs. Instead of gray walls and cold, tense air, this place pulsed with life. Ivy hung in gentle loops over stone arches, and lanterns glowed like starlight in the branches of the surrounding trees. The guards who welcomed us wore warm expressions; stern, yes, but not unkind. They looked
235Alyssa’s PovEvening sunlight glowed through my curtains, casting warm, drowsy patterns on the wooden floor. I sat by the edge of my bed, absently brushing my fingers across the folds of the letter Alpha Desmond had handed me earlier. My heart still pulsed with a mixture of anxiety and curiosity. Moon Valley; the name alone was enough to stir unease in my chest.A gentle knock at the door pulled me from my thoughts.“Its open.” I called softly.Mira stepped inside, a small smile tugging at her lips. Her brown curls were tied up loosely, and she held a basket of snacks, probably her way of distracting me from overthinking.“Hey” she said, her voice light. I thought I should check in. You seemed kind of off during lunch. What’s going on?I hesitated for a second before patting the space beside me on the bed. “I’m leaving tomorrow,” I said quietly. “Alpha Desmond asked me to go to Moon Valley on his behalf, to sign an alliance contract.”Her eyes widened. “You? You’re going to anothe
234Alyssa’s PovThe soft knock on my door woke me from sleep. It wasn’t sudden, though. But the fact that the knock was consistent, it echoed in my sleep and that finally woke me.I blinked, still half lost in the warm cocoon of my blanket and the haze of a light nap I didnt remember slipping into. I sat up slowly, brushing strands of hair from my face as another knock followed, a little firmer this time.“Yes?” I called out, my voice hoarse from sleep. The door creaked open slightly, and one of the maids stepped in, her hands clasped neatly in front of her.“Alpha Desmond requests your presence in his study,” she said politely, her gaze flickering once to meet mine before quickly lowering again.I nodded and thanked her, trying to push away the last of the drowsiness as I rose from the bed. My heart was beating nervously at that moment. Could it be the task he told me he might call me back for?Ugh. The morning’s conversation already felt like a heavy stone lodged in my chest, espec
233Alyssa’s POVThe next morning came faster than I expected. I woke up feeling a little groggy, my body still heavy from the strange dream I had. My mother’s voice still echoed in my head, soft and comforting, like a lullaby I didn’t want to forget. I didn’t want to get up, but I knew I had things to do, so I pulled myself out of bed, washed my face, and got ready. Not long after I finished dressing, someone knocked on my door. I glanced towards that direction and then walked towards the door and opened it only to see one of the guards standing outside.“Alpha Desmond asked to see you in his study.”My heart skipped a little.“Alright, thanks.” I nodded quickly, stepped out of my room and followed the hallway down toward his wing. When I stepped into his study, Alpha Desmond was standing near the window, hands behind his back, looking outside at the training grounds below. But he turned when he heard me come in.“Alyssa,” he said, giving a small smile. “Come in, and have your seat.”
232Alyssa’s POVFor a while, I tried not to act so cowardly. I stood stiffly on one spot,, trying to keep my breathing steady and my heart calm. Every sound in the forest, the rustling of leaves, the distant chirp of birds felt amplified in my ears. I kept telling myself that it was probably just my nerves playing tricks on me again. No one was there. Nothing was lurking, I was completely safe. Why would it be only me feeling that way? After all, Mira and her crush back there aren’t feeling weird about anything. I really didn’t want to be the girl who panicked at shadows, not anymore.“Come on, you’re safe, Alyssa.” I said to myself. So I forced myself to stay calm, to breathe through the fear and let the tension in my shoulders ease. And after a while, it worked. The eerie sensation of being watched gradually faded, and the heaviness in my chest lifted. There was no feeling of danger, just silence and the lingering scent of pine and wildflowers.Relief washed over me like a gentle t
