LOGINChapter 15
Kent's POV
When I walked into school the next day, I knew that everyone had learned the truth. It wasn't as if I heard them say something or anything of that sort but the way they looked at me. The wonder and question in their eyes.
My hands clenched beside me - there was only one person who could have told anyone. Freya. Even after I had warned her specifically to keep the truth away from anyone else, she had found herself blabbering of course.
Annoyance coursed through me in sharp waves that turned slowly into anger. My only hope was that my students didn't try to annoy me.
I looked at the crowd, their eyes on me, the most attentive I had ever seen them. “Today we're going to learn statistics and the impact on the modern day research world" I dropped the book on the desk and turned towards the board.
Behind me, I heard the whispers begin.
“He's so fucking hot. Freya is lucky that she gets to call that man her husband" a feminine voice.
“Oh please, not her husband yet, not if I somehow get to him. I mean she's a student and I'm one, what is the difference?"
I turned back sharply, my eyes searching for who had said the words. My eyes landed on the two girls closest to me, one with a clearly red and guilty face. The anger inside me had festered even more. “Both of you stand up and get out of my class"
“But-" they began.
“Now!" I shouted, my voice echoing in the silent class. I gestured towards the door and watched as they left. Once they had gone, I faced the class. “The next voice i hear will lose as many marks in this test as I please"
Murmurs began but I didn't let it stay long.
"Tear a sheet of paper, no more class for today. Let's do a little test and see how much everyone is learning or if you've been in school to gossip all day long” I kept my voice cold, trying to push the anger from showing.
Somehow, classes went by as slowly as they could until it was time for lunch. At least I didn't have to eat near the students or else I would have to hear all the rubbish they would tell me. Mason and I sat together.
"So you're engaged now?” He shook his head and took a bite of his food. "I can't believe it”
I sighed, shifting the contents on my plate around. "I can't believe it either.” There was a bitter taste in my mouth as that reality hit too hard. "What do you mean I'm engaged to be married to her of all people?”
He raised a brow, "Come on, she's sexy as fuck. Have you seen that chest of hers? I'm a little jealous of you”
When I opened my mouth to respond, it wasn't her chest I saw. It was Daniella's. Hers weren't exactly huge but they had fit my hands perfectly. Images of how hard I had squeezed and sucked them flashed in my brain. “Fuck" i muttered.
Mason looked at me with a question in his eyes, “What is it?" He looked around him, "Are you imagining fucking them?”
I gave him a disgusted look, brows screwed together, "No man, Jesus. Let's stop talking about it”
One of the other lecturers passed by then, Mrs Kate. She smiled at both of us, "Congratulations Professor Kent, you can't imagine my surprise when I heard the good news”
The woman beside her, her friend that I had seen a few times joined her then, "I couldn't believe it either. We all thought he would never get married. Congratulations Professor Kent, happy married life"
“I'm not married-" the sight of her cut me short.
At the door, Freya stood. Students weren't usually allowed into the room unless authorized. I stood up slowly, wondering why she was here. She had disobeyed me the first time, now she was here to spread another rumor.
“I'll meet you in my office" I told Mason before walking away without a second glance.
When I reached her, she opened her mouth to talk but before she could, I took her hand and began to drag her away. "Don't say anything” I warned her with a harsh whisper, rushing to my office before anyone else saw us.
Inside, she stared up at me with her green eyes. "Kent, why did you drag me that way?”
I raised a brow, "It's professor Kent to you” I told her.
She shrugged, "I can't call you that when you're about to be my husband” she stepped closer to me, the smell of her perfume sneaking it's way into my nose. "We can't be on official terms”
"When we are in school then we must remain in official terms” that wasn't why I had wanted to see her anyway. "Tell me, why did you go ahead and share the news when I warned you not to? Everyone knows we're engaged and I wasn't the one to tell them”
She looked away, finally breaking eye contact. "I'm sorry, I couldn't stop myself from telling friends, they told everyone not me” her voice was small and apologetic.
Even with that, somehow I knew that she wasn't being honest. She had intended to tell them. Even though I didn't know Freya on a personal level, she was a student in my college. I had heard the rumors about her and so I knew what she was capable of.
"I just can't help myself when it comes to you” her hands dropped on my chest, over the unbuttoned shirt.
My eyes flicked down in surprise and then back to her. Her eyes had darkened, hands trailed down my shirt towards my pants. "Can you?"
Daniella's POV
School had been hell that day. Everyone already knew the truth and somehow, eyes still remained on me. As I passed the lockers for mine, I heard a voice, low but loud enough for me to hear it clearly.
"It's the whore, has somebody told her that she didn't fuck him good enough for him to choose her?”
A set of giggles.
Another feminine voice, "I don't think she cares anyway. All she wanted his dick, she's not worth anything else. She would have trapped him in a boring marriage”
"She's way too ugly to date someone as handsome as Professor Kent,” another voice added.
Bile rose in my throat as I rushed into my first class of the day. I didn't want to hear anymore. I was sure that if I did, I would fall physically ill and I didn't want that. Thankfully, morning sickness and all that came with pregnancy hadn't begun. There was no need to start it now.
The day continued like that, the whispers didn't stop and neither did the looks. When lunch came, I took my food and went into the library instead. There was a corner for people to eat and I was grateful that it was empty.
I sat there until I had finished eating and then I cleaned my hands and stood up. It was time to do the one thing I had been avoiding all day.
Professor Kent.
Rayne had just reminded me of a fact I already knew. I had to find a way to tell him the truth. He had to know that I was carrying his child at least first before anything else. If he refused after that then at least I would know I had tried.
The only thing I didn't want to happen was for Freya or Gareth to find out. If they did then I would never live another day of peace without being mocked. It would be even worse than this, ten times worse.
Despite my nervousness, I walked to his office and stopped at the door.
I stopped when I heard voices, not entirely loud but clear enough for me to hear everything. Immediately she spoke, I knew who it was, the shrill voice would always be familiar to me, it had been the ghost in my nightmares.
“You keep trying to deny what we share but I won't let that happen" there were footsteps on the tiles, I wasn't sure who it was. "You're mine and I'm yours, you'd better start using me like that is the truth”
He said something low, I wasn't sure what, "You know…I'm not even…. I don't even know why…"
Silence and then she spoke again.
“You haven't even given it a chance at all for you to say this. If you had then you would see the truth or are you too hung up on that bitch to try it with me?" Her voice had turned mocking. “Or maybe you want it to be tried on with her? You'd prefer her, wouldn't it?"
I felt a sting I couldn't explain. He wasn't even trying to defend me himself. I wanted to defend myself but then he spoke.
“This isn't about Daniella and it never will. I'm not talking about. You're here for a reason and we know that” there was a small silence and then I heard it.
The sound of something wet finding each other. My eyes widened as I heard the kiss progress. I could hear it clearly, they were kissing. My chest fell tight the longer I waited. It didn't matter at all whatever happened, I heard it loud as day.
Then there was a small shuffle, a small and harsh whisper although I didn't hear the words from him. It was then that I heard footsteps coming towards me.
Before either of them could reach me, I pushed myself into one of the half closed doors and waited. It wasn't Freya that came out but Professor Kent instead.
“I'll be back"

I don't want a stage, I don't want cameras flashing red dots, and I don't want high-society wives whispering over champagne flutes. I want quiet, private, and real.Next morning, Kent acts weird. He checks his phone twice while making coffee. He taps his screen with a tight, focused thumb, then slips it into his pocket fast when I walk into the kitchen.Old instincts twitch. Is Robert pulling another supply line? Did Dean Holloway reopen the review?I catch myself. I am not living in paranoia mode anymore. I lean against the fridge, sipping black coffee, and watch him zip a small leather folio bag."You're acting like a spy trading secrets in a alley, Vance," I tease, raising an eyebrow.Kent pauses, turning around with a slow, faint smirk touching his mouth. Her expression is granite-tight—not hostile, just heavy with institutional gravity."Dr. Vance," Holloway says, looking between us. "Miss Vance is cleared of the extortion conspiracy trace. Her roster stands." She turns her sharp gaze to me. "The board review regarding your faculty standing remains active. We cannot have a direct instructor-student dynamic in upp
Chapter Sixty ThreeDaniella’s PovTears blur my vision, warm and clean, as Kent pulls me up from the porch boards and into a tight, hard embrace that feels like safety carved out of stone."I believe you," I whisper against his shoulder, my voice cracking with honesty. "I don't doubt your heart, Kent. Not anymore."We sit back down on the weathered porch bench, the ocean roaring low in the dark. My fingers touch the silver chain and white jade resting on my wrist. I look up at him, moonlight cutting silver across his sharp jaw."How we started still messes with my head sometimes," I admit quietly, staring at the grain of the wood. "A setup office, a blackmailer in the dark, a cold professor who didn't want messy feelings, and a baby making choices for us before we even knew how to talk."Kent covers my hand with his big, heavy palm. His eyes are dark, deep, and steady. "The start was a wreck, Daniella. I won't lie about that. My grandfather built a cage, Gareth set a trap, and I walk
Chapter Sixty TwoDaniella’s PovMorning light hits the cheap kitchen blinds, and I lay the cold truth out on the table like open blueprints."Zero trusts," I tell Daniella, tracing a finger across a pad of yellow legal paper. "Gone. The family real estate portfolio in the valley—revoked access codes. The sovereign equity line through grandfather’s syndicate—locked out. Dividend distribution rights from the baseline parent trust—terminated."I look up, waiting for her shoulders to drop. Waiting for the realization that she chained herself to a sinking ship.Daniella sits cross-legged on the chair, sipping black coffee, her dark eyes steady and unblinking. "What’s left in your name alone?""My independent stock portfolio from pre-venture advisory advisory fees, two hundred thousand in liquid cash sitting in a clean credit union account, and Vance Advisory Group intellectual property rights," I say, laying out the exact math. "It’s enough to cover payroll, office rent for six months, an

The tiredness on his face turns into hard stone. "What did she say?""She said you sat with Robert. She said there's a paper copy sitting in your briefing folder right now tying my enrollment audit clearance to your wire release." I cross my arms, forcing my legs steady. "Tell me straight, Kent. Did Robert put an exit clause with my name on it?"Kent stares at me for two long seconds. Then he lets out a heavy, ragged breath, running a hand down his face. He walks past the kitchen island, dropping his heavy leather portfolio onto the table with a dull thud. He flips the brass latches, pulls out a single thick sheaf of cream legal paper,

I look at Kent standing tall in his dark jacket, ready to walk into a shadow trap for four million dollars of bridge liquidity. My throat tightens. Every instinct tells me this isn't an investment meeting—it's an ambush wrapped in a wire transfer. I look straight into his dark eyes."Remember what you promised me, Kent," I say quietly, keeping my voice clear and firm. "You said our relationship would never turn into another corporate deal. Wha
