Lyra's POV

The darkness lasted maybe three seconds, but it felt like forever. Emergency lights kicked in, bathing everything in red. Elena was cursing and waving her gun around, trying to figure out what happened.

"Stay where you are!" she yelled.

But I wasn't staying anywhere. The moment the lights went out, I'd grabbed Finn and pulled him behind an old desk. He was shaking, but he was alive.

"Mommy?" he whispered.

"Shh, baby. Stay quiet."

Heavy footsteps echoed from somewhere above us. Multiple people running down the stairs.

"FREEZE! POLICE!"

Elena spun toward the sound, her gun ready. "How did they find us?"

More shouts, more footsteps. Then I heard a voice that made my stomach drop.

"Lyra! Where are you?"

Rhys.

Of course he'd come. Of course he'd brought the cavalry and tried to be the hero. Just like always.

"Elena Martinez, drop your weapon!"

Elena laughed. "Elena Martinez is dead, you idiots!"

"We know who you are, Agent Torres," a different voice called. "We know about your s

  • PREGNANT and REJECTED by the BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 113: Underground Secrets

Elena's POVThe abandoned subway tunnel felt like home now. Funny how three weeks of living underground could make concrete walls and the smell of rust seem cozy. I adjusted the battery-powered monitor showing the feed from the camera I'd planted across from Lyra's apartment and smiled at what I saw.Chris was leaving her building, looking all heroic and determined. Poor fool had no idea he was walking right into my web."He found your little hideout, didn't he?" a familiar voice said behind me.I turned to see my partner emerging from the shadows, carrying two cups of coffee from the thermos we kept heated on the camping stove."Right on schedule," I replied, taking the steaming cup gratefully. "Chris always was predictable. Show him a mystery, and he has to solve it. Just like his father."My partner settled into the folding chair beside me, studying the surveillance monitors with satisfaction. "The flowers were a nice touch. Lyra looked properly terrified.""She should be," I said,

  • PREGNANT and REJECTED by the BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 112: Phantom Threats

Chris's POVThe pier looked different in the morning light than it had three weeks ago when Elena fell into the water. Less threatening, more like what it actually was, an old wooden structure where fishermen came to catch their dinner and teenagers snuck off to make out. But standing here now, knowing what I was looking for, every shadow seemed to hold secrets."Agent Mitchell, thanks for meeting me," I said as Sarah approached, her FBI badge clipped to her jacket."Chris, we've been over this," Sarah said, pulling her coat tighter against the ocean breeze. "The coast guard searched for a week. If Elena survived that fall, she would have had to swim in forty-degree water for over a mile to reach shore. It's not possible."I knelt down at the edge of the pier where Elena had gone over. The water was murky green, and I couldn't see more than a few feet down. "You said yourself she was former special forces. Those people are trained for impossible situations.""Former military, yes. But

  • PREGNANT and REJECTED by the BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 111: New Beginnings

Lyra's POV The smell of fresh paint and cardboard boxes filled our new apartment as I watched Finn bounce excitedly from room to room. After everything we'd been through, this felt like a miracle, a clean slate, a chance to start over without the shadows of the past haunting every corner."Mom, look! My new room has two windows!" Finn called out, his voice echoing through the empty space. The joy in his voice made my heart swell. For the first time in months, he sounded like a normal six-year-old boy instead of someone who'd witnessed too much adult drama.Chris appeared in the doorway carrying another box, his t-shirt slightly damp with sweat. "That's the last of the heavy stuff," he said, setting it down carefully. "Where do you want the kitchen boxes?""Just put them on the counter for now," I replied, trying not to notice how his shirt clung to his chest or how his hair fell across his forehead when he leaned over. Three weeks since the divorce was finalized, and I was still adju

Lyra's POVElena pulled a knife from her belt, the blade catching the moonlight as she smiled at me with genuine pleasure."You know," she said, "this is actually better than what I had planned. More personal."I could hear Chris and Rhys behind me, both of them trying to talk me out of this. But I'd made my decision. For months, I'd been letting other people fight my battles, make my choices, determine my fate. Not anymore."What are the rules?" I asked."Rules?" Elena laughed. "The only rule is that one of us doesn't walk away from this."She lunged forward without warning, the knife aimed at my chest. I dove to the side, my months of fear and running finally transforming into something useful. Adrenaline sharpened my focus, and suddenly everything seemed to slow down.Elena was skilled, that much was obvious. But she was also angry, and anger made people sloppy."You think you're some kind of hero?" she taunted, circling me like a predator. "You think love makes you strong?""I thi

  • PREGNANT and REJECTED by the BILLIONAIRE    Chapter 109: Final Gambit

Elena's POVEverything was finally falling into place. After months of planning, watching, and waiting, I had them exactly where I wanted them.I stood in the abandoned warehouse overlooking the pier, watching through high-powered binoculars as Lyra, Chris, and Rhys approached together. They thought they were being clever, coming as a team instead of following my instructions. They had no idea they were walking straight into the perfect trap."Ma'am?" Marcus Santos appeared at my elbow. "They're not following the plan. The woman was supposed to come alone.""It doesn't matter," I said, lowering the binoculars. "This is actually better.""How?"I smiled, feeling the familiar rush of pieces clicking together. "Because now I can give them the choice in person. Make them watch each other's faces when they realize what's at stake."Marcus looked confused. Like most criminals, he was focused on the money. He didn't understand that this had never really been about the twenty million dollars.

  • PREGNANT and REJECTED by the BILLIONAIRE    chapter 108: Family Bonds

Chris's POVI woke up on the uncomfortable hospital couch with a crick in my neck and the weight of everything that had happened settling on my chest. Lyra had reached for me first last night. In that moment of pure instinct, she had chosen me.But sitting there in the morning light, watching her sleep in the chair next to Finn's bed while Rhys stood by the window looking lost, I realized something important. Her choice didn't change anything. Not yet, anyway.Lyra was still married. Still confused. Still dealing with the aftermath of betrayal and lies and a world that had been turned upside down multiple times. The last thing she needed was me pressuring her about what her instincts might mean. And Rhys was still Finn's father. Still a good man who'd made bad choices but was trying to do better. Still someone who deserved respect, not just from Lyra but from me.If I really loved this family, all of them, I had to be patient. I had to let things develop naturally instead of trying to
