We arrived at Moonshine Pack just as the sun was setting. The gates of the town were still open and our truck and car drove directly to the Alpha's Villa.
I would have done anything to escape my present situation. Even if it means killing Damon. But I could not escape, for I had no doubt whatsoever that my mother would suffer horribly for it, and my mother had suffered enough at the hands of Damon D'Angelo. I was almost numb with despair as I mounted the stairs to the great hall. Damon had not lied when he talked about the number of moonshine pack werewolves. They look strong and muscular, armed, and in great multitude. The inside of the great hall was filled with tables and chairs set for the evening meal, the wall displaying Alpha Gwen's wealth in useless weapons of polished silver and gold, most encrusted with fine jewels. Omegas were in abundance. One or more to serve each guest, but Alpha Gwen did not waste his money. Their clothes were nearly rags, their bodies none too clean, their demeanor cowed to the point of trembling hands and haunted eyes, and little wonder. In the space of crossing the hall to the raised dais where Gwen sat like a king in state, I saw three Omegas cuffed for no apparent reason, one struck so hard that he fell to the floor, only to be kicked twice where he lay unmoving. I was so appalled by what I saw that I stopped walking, but the crowd at my back pushed me lightly. I had avoided looking towards Gwen's table. Maybe he will vanish if I keep ignoring him. And I nearly cried out in horror when I at last did. He was worse than I had imagined. Alpha Gwen wasn't just old. He looks like a corpse. His skin was a pasty white, and so deeply wrinkled there was not an inch anywhere to be seen that could be called smooth. What was left of his hair was white, except for one narrow streak of blond to attest to what the color had been. His body was so bent that I stood taller than him, and I was only a few inches above five feet. His eyes were round and too big for his small face, and the whites of his eyes were dark yellow. I also noticed a white film covering the iridescence of one of his irises. He was almost blind. His bright silk robe, trimmed at the neck and sleeves with costly fur; merely made him look more ridiculous. A hard, loud voice soon boomed in the large hall as our pack Beta shouted introductions. "My name is Beta Cohen, and I have been delegated to supervise the marriage preparation until my Alpha arrives. I want you to meet your wife-to-be, Princess Bella." "Enough," Alpha Gwen said with a cackle, revealing the only two teeth remaining in his mouth. "Take her to my side of the fortress. I will see her at the chapel for the wedding." I turned and then summoned an Omega to take me to whatever room he had prepared for me. And it was in my room that my blinding tears were finally released until I finally fell asleep. I woke with some kind of disorientation that lasted only for a moment. And at that instant, my blood turned cold as dread seeped into my bones, keeping me immobile on the bed. "Do you want to lie in bed until the priest arrives?" "Moana?" My eyes gasped in surprise as I recognized that dear voice. "Yes, my sweet one." I sat up and saw my maid sitting on a chest that had not been there when I first entered the room. It was my chest, and my maid was sitting on it. Moana has been my maid since I can remember. And before that, she had served my mother. Moana was a tall woman with a round girth. Her weight was expected since Moana loved eating. "What are you doing here?" "Your uncle allowed me to come after receiving feedback on your cooperation...I saw that old man when I arrived this morning. How could you agree to wed that?" I fought back the tears gathering in my eyes, but my lips still trembled as I said, "Damon was hitting my mother. I doubt he would have stopped if I didn't agree." "Oh, my goodness," Moana cried and then came swiftly forward to gather me in her arms. "I knew Damon was a monster but I never expected him to be worse. He dared strike his half-brother's wife." "God forgive me, but I hate him now. He only thinks of his gain and has no thought of my well-being." "I heard he planned to take back your land from that Monstrous Alpha Baron. "Not for me. Damon will never give back my land. I'm just to get pregnant to secure Moonshine's wealth and warriors. And when Gwen dies, Damon will have me back as well, to marry off again the next time he finds himself in similar situations." "Oh! Is that his plan?" Moana asked indignantly. "But Gwen is so old. Do you think he can still have an erection?" I snorted. "Exactly my thought. But I guess no man will like to be told that." "I learned that Alpha Gwen had tried to get another son to replace the ones who died during the war. He has taken four wives in just of recent ." "What happened to them?" "They all died one way or the other. But I suspect foul play. I learned he had repudiated them because they couldn't give him the so-needed-son as quickly as expected." "So if I did not give him a son, he is likely to hate me within a year. " "No. Alpha Gwen will not last that long. He should have been dead since. Why he is still alive can only be from a pact he made with the devil." "Shush," I hissed and then made a sign of a cross over my chest. Yet, I was forced to agree, had I not thought he already looked like a corpse. "Do you truly mean you are going to marry Alpha Gwen?" "Yes. Do I have a choice?" "You do. We can kill him instead."Bella's Pov. Even when I had gotten well and stronger, Baron spent most of his day with me and hardly allowed me to step out of his sight. He followed me everywhere or assigned people to watch me when he had something important to attend to. Even though I appreciate his presence, I know he was a busy man, and he was sacrificing a lot by staying with me. My eyes darted towards the drawn curtain and then through the transparent glass on the window. Today promised to be a bright day, despite the early sign of immense rain; the sun had driven the early cloud from the sky and now shines brightly in its place. "Don't you have any other things to attend to today, my lord?" I asked when Baron still refused to step out of his fortress again today.Baron was sitting at the edge of the bed, watching the sky just like me. His face immediately turned towards me as he asked, "Are you sending me away- from my solar?""No, my lord. I will never do that. I just thought since I am strong enough to
Bella's Pov. For some days now, my body has been as hot as hell, my throat sore, making it impossible for me to eat, and I fear I will be vomiting my guts out, which was a surprise I didn't. Baron was always at my side whenever I opened my eyes, and I could see the concern on his face as he gazed down at me. He must be scared of losing his baby. Apart from Baron, a physician visited me three times a day, while Sarah fed and cleaned me up. However, today, my head felt better, and my stomach had been holding my breakfast for several hours without any sign of discomfort. Tired of being locked up inside the solar all these days, I decided to take a stroll around the fortress, and if possible, through the pack house. Baron had ordered them to bring more of my clothing from his store, and with the help of Sarah, I took a quick bath and dressed up in a white gown with beautiful blue lace at the hem. This gown was far beyond my knees before, but now it reveals my thighs. A reminder tha
Andrew was a merry-looking man, but today, only weariness shows in his face when I met him waiting in the corridor for me."Welcome my friend. " I offered my hand for a shake, and then patted him on the shoulder. "Good to have you back."Andrew forced a grin. "Well, I came back because you asked me to; otherwise, I would have penetrated into Greenwich's pack and free Moana alone if I had to.""I know you will, my courageous friend. But you need more than courage to take such a great risk. You aren't knowledgeable in disguise like me, and even I will think twice before embarking on such an impossible mission."Andrew nodded in agreement. "I think you are right. So, what's the plan? I had ordered a thousand warriors among my Gammas, and they were to meet us at Greenwich's pack territory as soon as I gave the signal.""I...I think we have to take it easy, friend."Andrew asked in a cold voice, "What do you mean?""You have been out in the cold for the past twenty-four hours. You need a g
Bella's Pov. "You aren't going to fall sick, are you?" Baron asked immediately I pulled my heavy eyelids open. He was sitting at the edge of the bed, fully dressed in a white shirt and jeans, and smiling at me. I feel horrible, my body is on fire and my head pounds like hell, but I force myself to offer a smile. "Nah. I just feel tired and need to rest. How is Moana? Had she been found?""No, not yet. Alpha Andrew informed me Damon's army had moved into the Greenwich pack territory and was now out of reach, so I ordered them to turn back. ""You aren't leaving Moana there, are you?""No. Sending twenty-two people after the whole army was one stupid idea in the first place, but ordering them to enter into an enemy's territory is nothing but suicidal."An enemy's territory...God in heaven! Will Baron consider me an enemy when he knows who I am? Yesternight was the second time I had tried to reveal my real identity to him, and like before, he had cut me off, preventing me from my confe
Baron's Pov. The meeting finished immediately after the first morning crows, and after the participants left the meeting hall, I ordered a guard to call Mellisa for me. "Father!" She exclaimed at my sight. "I learnt of your arrival some minutes ago and would have come down to greet you if you weren't busy with the pack members."I furrowed my brow and fixed my eyes on my daughter, who looked so young, innocent, and incapable of these accusations. I know most of the fault of her shortcomings lies with me. I had spent my time warring and failed to be there for her when she needed parental guidance and love. Disregarding my cold reaction, Melissa continued her speech, "You won't believe it, Father. The Omega you came home with from Moonshine pack stole my trinket and was caught red-handed with it. Having no choice, I ordered some guards to lock her up in the dungeon until you come, but she escaped the fortress and locked poor Sarah up in her cell. But father, I can swear with my life
Baron's Pov. "Isn't that Lady Bella?" Andrew asked as he galloped closer to me. Due to the dangerous terrain, horses were the only ideal type of movement, and I have them in larger quantities for my uses. "It can't be Bella. What on earth will she be-oh my goodness! It's Bella," I yelled, smacked my horse furiously, and galloped towards the silhouette far away. Andrew was right, it was Bella. Who else has those amazing curves and shapes? Seeing Bella alone outside our pack gate made my heart beat erratically. What is wrong, and why is she on her buttocks staring at us as if she is looking at ghosts?"I only left for a few hours, and all you have to do is escape from my fortress. You must so desire this baby so much that you are ready to risk abduction, hunger, and cold for it."Bella glared at me, sprang up from the cold floor, and used her palms to wipe dirt off her buttocks. "I'm not running away- well, I was, but not from you... Ah! Moana. You must save her.""What happened to
