From the little I remembered of him, he was an alpha who loved war so much that he rarely spent a day with his pack members. I also remembered that he detested the sight of me and wouldn't even speak to my mother. I didn't miss him when he passed away. How can I miss the father I never know? After my father's death, his half-brother took control of the pack and of course, my wealth. According to what I was told, my grandmother had a stillborn and then died after. It was her second pregnancy, my father was the result of the first. So my grandfather got married to a She-wolf from a neighboring pack. She was of great affluence and well-sought by powerful he-wolves of her time. The union produced a pub. His name was Damon. My growing up under Damon can only be described with one word. Horrible! He locked me had my mother up in our side of the fortress, forbade us from leaving our little prison and we only survive on the remnant from his table. I met my mate when I was fifteen. He came along with some workers to attend to some malfunctioning gadgets at my side of the fortress. He was a tall and good-looking he-wolf, and he spoke kindly and looked at me affectionately. His appearance changed everything in me. A new kind of dream for freedom. At last, I will be escaping my horrible home. Not even the thought of my mother's loneliness will make me stay. But my half-uncle rejected my mate. He was a he-wolf of lowly birth and had neither wealth nor land to his name. I was all angry and wouldn't take no for an answer. I cried. Begged that he should change his mind, but his response was the same, no. So we started making plans. We are going to elope. It was a stupid decision made from rushes of emotions. We were caught and my mate was killed while I returned to my little cell.A day before my eighteen-year-old birthday, my half-uncle called me into his chamber and muttered, "I have good news, my dearest Bella. I have finally found someone good enough for you."
I look at my uncle. Stunned and repelled, but not surprised. He was a man known for his selfishness and shrewdness. "Who is that lucky werewolf, my Lord?"
Damon roared with laughter as he said, "There is still some defiant in you. Well, if you must know, you are getting married to Alpha Gwen."
Alpha Gwen! My eyes almost fell out of their sockets. It would be foolhardy to expect something good from someone as horrible as Damon but this was unexpected. Alpha Gwen was as old as my grandfather and possessed the worst of all reputations.Damon's face was filled with enthusiasm as he said, "As you are aware, Alpha Gwen is old and has no heir. I was able to convince him that you are filled with male wolves and will give birth by the next ten new moons."
"You are lying. Thousands of she-wolves from his pack will give him what he wants if the goddess deems him worthy of an heir. You must have promised him something more, didn't you?"
"Even though I dislike your impertinence tongue, I shall tell you what you want to hear, " Damon mumbled, grinned, and said after, "I promised to give him half of your wealth as dowry. The alpha is at the point of bankruptcy and only your wealth can save him. And if you must know, I planned to kill him as soon as you became pregnant. You won't have to suffer his presence for very long."
A knowing grin escaped my mouth. "And you think I will help you to achieve all this?"
"You will do exactly what I asked of you.""And what will you get in return? You are giving away too much."
He laughed dryly now. "All his strong and able pack members. It's time I destroyed the Greenwood pack, and bring that proud Baron to his knees."
War again!
Greenwood Pack was the neighbor on the right side of our territory. And we have been rivals for ages. The rivalry started when a high volume of silver was found to be deposited under the mountains of some section of land between the two packs. The land that once belonged to my father before his death."I don't want to get involved with your disgusting war."
"Baron had taken over your land. Do you still think it's none of your business?"
"Yes, Damon. You will never give me back the land, will you? Why should I be bothered about who owns it since it can never be mine."
"Yet still, you will do what I want."
"I won't. I would rather die than spend a night with that disgusting old man."
"Alpha Gwen is not too old, Bella. He is just eighty-eight."
"And I'm just eighteen. He is old enough to be my grandfather."
My half-uncle shrugged and said, "You can die if you like. Your death will give me access to all your wealth. Dead or alive, I will still be making fortunes out of you, but I will make sure your mother suffered enough for thwarting my plan."
"You are an evil man. People like you will die a miserable death and they -."
My voice trailed off when his face darkened and his eyes became red. For a moment, I thought he would strike me, but he didn't. He'd never struck me. All he ever did was burn with rage whenever I annoyed him and then took the anger on my poor mother.
"Go away, Bella," he said at last. "Your mother will prepare you for your trip to Moonshine Pack, and you will be allowed to leave with a truck filled with your clothes, jewelry, and household items. If you behave yourself, I may even allow you to go with your family maid ."
"Really! Oh, thank Damon. You are the kindest werewolf alive," I said with a voice filled with criticism and a sneering face.
He ignored me, "You are the Greenwich heiress, so I have been more than generous with you. Besides, I don't want to make a niggardly impression or leave any person in doubt of my affection for you. You will leave tonight, and I will be there tomorrow evening to attend your wedding. But your mother will remain here until I'm back. Take note, her head will leave her neck if I find out that you are up to any mischief."
I forced a smile and stared at his emotionless face.
"Well, why don't you say something? No shout or abuse!"
I inhaled heavily. Why should I abuse or shout at you?"
"Oh! That impertinent tone again. Go away then. We will meet at Moonshine Chapel for your wedding."
Back in my section of the villa, my mother held and petted me while I cried, and then she told me that any marriage- even to any man was better than remaining here. She advised me to face it and behave as a lady ought to. With dignity and acceptance. With a smooth, serene countenance.
I had been watching Baron through the window of the sewing room and was astounded by his skills. But the crowds had drawn nearer, blocking my view. So I had raced out of the room on impulse, my mission was to join the crowds watching the friendly fight between the two Alphas. That was a mistake because Baron immediately took notice of me, lost his concentration, and got hit, losing the bet. I knew he would never forgive me for that.Andrew's victorious gaze swept over the whole arena and then fell on me. "What do you think of the match, Lady Bella? This is the first time I will be winning against your lord, and it felt so good.""Impressive, lord Andrew.""I demand a rematch," Baron puffed with annoyance. "I will double my payment if I lose.""No... no, lord Baron. I am not a fool who thinks you can make the same mistakes twice. I would rather quit now that I'm on the winning side.""But you didn't win, did you?" I asked, facing Alpha Andrew."I did, my dear lady. And thanks to your
Cinderella's Pov. Everything had been working according to my plan, except for the presence of this bitch. Bella. That was her name. I wonder who she is and how she has so much power over my Baron in such a short time. The door of my room creaked and was opened by my father, and the intensity of my worried look subsided at the sight of him. Here is someone I can confide in, someone who will keep my secret and never judge me. My partner in crime. "Thank God you are here, father. Please sit down while I fetch you something to drink."Father shook his head sideways to signify no and then sat on the only chair in the middle of the room with a sigh. "What are we going to do now? He seems bent on rejecting you.""It's because of a woman, Father. I can't believe Baron is leaving me for a woman with little flesh- who looks as thin as a bamboo stick. Some men have no taste.""You dumped him for Adam. No man will accept such an insult, not someone like Baron.""I did it for him.""We should
Baron's Pov. Even though I'm not sure what complexity Bella was perpetrating on me, I had already arrived at the conclusion that I did not mind it at all. Whatever she hopes to gain doesn't matter to me because it doesn't change my decision about her... maybe it does. I no longer have any intention of hurting her or making her suffer. What purpose is that serving when she keeps yearning for me? "You know, sometimes I feel jealous of you, my dear friend."Andrew's voice jolted me back to the present, and I immediately turned to face him. I had been so engrossed in my thoughts of Bella that I didn't hear his footsteps nor smell his scent until he stood a few feet away from me. "You always have more women than dogs have fleas, which is quite a mystery considering your awful look.""I'm in no mood for jest, Andrew. Tell me, what do you think of Lady Cinderella?""Beautiful. Sophisticated and warm. She possesses a grace that is uncommon in women of her kind."That was exactly how Andre
Bella's Pov. Baron's voice was a little bit audible than a whisper when he asked, "You are kidding, right?""No, my lord. Our pack will never forgive my family if I mess up this opportunity to lose a connection with the Greenwood pack. And it was my father's wish to have Alpha grandsons. Please give me another chance to prove my devotion to you."Baron had raised his hand to silence the excited lady, but she was too preoccupied with her narration. "It's okay, Cindy. You are here to marry me, right?""Yes, my lord.""Good. Let me have a word with your father first. You can go."Cindy placed her palms on Baron's knees, and was immediately on her knees. "Please, my lord. Getting married to you is the only alternative I have left. That was why I came out clean with you. I won't want you to hear the truth one day after I had woven my own fashion of it. What would you think of me if you did? A liar and a deceptive woman. Nay. I can have the man I will spend my forever with to think of me
Unlike Bella, who possessed an extremely slender and curvy body, Cinderella was plump, pale in a lovely way, with raven hair and dark green eyes. And as I stared into her eyes, I knew whatever I had had for her was long dead. "I'm so sorry, my lord. I knew my disappearance may have caused you a lot of headaches, and that is why I came to you as soon as I could.""You must have an explanation for your disappearance and your sudden appearance, Cindy," I said hurriedly and then gestured to her to come with me. Walls have ears around here. Since I want whatever Cinderella tells me to remain between us, at least until I know the weight of it, the only suitable place to hold this meeting is inside my chamber, where Bella is naked in bed waiting for me. My eyes went straight to the bed immediately I entered my solar, and I fought to hide my annoyance when I discovered she had disobeyed me again. When I at last saw her staring at me and Cindy, I ignored her, turned back at Cindy, and pointe
Baron was there when I opened my eyes. He was sitting on the bed, dressed in a white tunic and staring at me. I had a feeling he had been looking at me for a while. I glanced at the parted curtain, and a grunt escaped my mouth when I realized the sun had already replaced the night moon. "Good morning, my Lord. You should have woken me up.""Why should I, when one of your duties is to serve me?" Baron asked with a glint of a smile. "Ah! I said. "Those that mean I am to ignore my other duties?""Now that you mentioned it, I want you to do something for me." Baron stood up from the bed and then walked towards a chest close to the wall. He picked up a book with a colorful, thick cover and placed it on the mattress beside me. "Go through these records and audit them. You can do that, can't you?""I can," I said as I rolled the cover off my body to expose my nakedness. Baron fastened his eyes on me, and I saw them moving all over my body and then settling on my belly. "And how is the b
