Chapter 2

Author: Little Hedgehog
My cheeks burned in shame. Luke looked eerie when flashing those pearly whites. It felt like I was his next meal.

“Anyway, let’s get down to it. I’m not here to catch up. Now that you’ve seen me with my pants down, you ought to take responsibility.”

“What?”

I was lost for words. Meanwhile, Jorja was busy shipping us. Honestly, my jaw was on the floor.

“I-I don’t think that’s a good idea. I’m single and all, but—”

My face turned bright red as R-rated scenes played in my mind.

I never thought that pulling a guy’s pants down would find me a boyfriend. Had I known, I would’ve done so ages ago.

Luke’s voice boomed from the top of my head. “What are you thinking? Let’s talk.”

He grabbed me by the nape and took me aside. Jorja gave me a look that I was on my own before slipping away.

Putting my hands over my face, I hid my silly grin. “Um… Sure, so long as you’re sure about this.”

“I see that you’re not completely clueless. Thanks to you, I’ve become the talk of the school. I can’t just go anywhere now, so you’re responsible for buying my meals and getting water. You’re on call for running errands.

“That’s about it.”

“Huh? D-Didn’t you say I had to take responsibility?” I was dumbfounded. Why did it sound like I was an errand girl?

“That’s right. You’re responsible for my daily needs.

“What were you expecting?”

With downcast eyes, he met my gaze, throwing me into embarrassment.

I was a total slacker. I wouldn’t have volunteered if not for the extra credits.

For once, I was taking part in a school event, only for the whole thing to blow up in my face. Somehow, I ended up as Luke’s babysitter.

Luke took notice of my grumpy face. “I had my pants pulled down in front of the entire school. At best, you were being inappropriate, but on a larger scale, you undermined my self-respect, and it doesn’t sit well with me.

“I think the breeze on the school rooftop sounds nice. I should head up there.”

As he turned to walk off, I panicked and grabbed his arm. “Don’t! I’ll do it, alright? Just don’t push it. I don’t have that much time anyway.”

My words trailed off.

Luke said nonchalantly, “Relax. I’m not unreasonable. All I’m asking is for three square meals and a couple of bottles of water a day. Oh, and the occasional trips to collect my packages.

“Tell you what. We can go to school together. Give me your class schedule, so we can line them up.”

Luke was so serious about the whole thing, cutting any chances of me slacking off. Having no tears to cry, I presented my timetable for him to check.

He nodded. “Our schedules are identical. We share a major lecture as well. That makes things easier.”

Luke gave me a pat on the shoulder. “I’ll be counting on you.”

I hissed through clenched teeth, “It’s my pleasure.”

Fighting back his smirk, Luke waved his arm. “That’s it for today. Your roommate is waiting for you there. I’m off. Don’t mute my messages again.”

I was taken aback as he walked away. “What? Aren’t you here to help the freshmen?”

“No, I was only here for you. I’d rather not be gawked at by everyone.

“Don’t forget to get my lunch from the school cafeteria.”

He gave me a sly grin. Despite my anger, I had to squeeze a smile. I bet the guy was doing this on purpose.

Lunch, huh? Well, I would make sure he would be stuffed.

With Luke’s face turning red, I burst out laughing. “I can’t believe you’re scared of dogs! “Next time, I’ll just—” I had leverage over him. Just the thought of it made me giddy with power!Flushed in the cheeks, Luke pinched my chin for a kiss. My eyes widened. The guy never played it straight. The least he could do was give me a heads-up. He took my breath away. I had to gasp for air when he finally pulled away. I smiled as his cheeks burned. Getting on my tiptoes, I hooked my arms around his neck and locked tongues with him. With camera flashes going off, I broke the kiss in fright and buried my head against his chest. Jorja and the others swarmed us. Even Luke’s roommates came along. “Not bad, Mr. Popular. After all that back and forth, you finally got her.”“So, when’s the dinner treat?” “Don’t be stingy about it!” While the roommates welcomed me enthusiastically, Luke wrapped his arm around my shoulders. “Fine. Jeez, you’ll get dinner this weekend. You guys

My heart was in my throat. As the music played in the background, Sasha stepped onto the stage in a white dress, playing the violin. The crowd erupted in cheers. My nerves got the best of me. Surely, Sasha wasn’t going to go for it. Before I could rise to my feet, Jorja grabbed my hands. “Don’t go. We need to face this head-on.“Think about it. If Luke dumps you right after making things official with you, he can kiss his reputation goodbye.” Seeing that Jorja had a point, I sat upright in my seat. Luke paused at first, but he raised his voice soon after. “Thank you, Maeve. Thank you for playing by your own rules and bringing the thrill into my life. “In my entire four years at university, I never expected to become a viral hit. “And thanks for that crazy stunt. You shook up my routine. I’m obsessed with you, Maeve.” Luke shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice cutting right through the sound of the violin. Sasha’s hands shook so much that several notes were lost.

I returned to my dorm room, butterflies in my belly and my face beet red. Jorja pulled me aside. “Spill! What base are we on now?” I snapped back to reality. “What do you mean?” “I saw everything, and basically, half the school saw Luke calling you his girlfriend. How did you do it?”She dangled the phone. I paused before checking my phone. A clip of Luke kissing me was going viral on the school forum. I buried my face in my hands and groaned. The comments were wild. “This girl’s something else. Look at her approach to chasing guys. Don’t overthink and just go for it. Forget the subtle stuff!”“Taking notes from the legend herself! I’m with you all the way, Maeve!” “You need to write a book about the act of taming men!” “Luke is actually admitting to having a girlfriend for the first time in all his college years.” “One epic yank at the school gate captured the campus hunk’s heart.” “I should’ve been the one to de-pants him. I missed my chance!” Amid the prais

“Didn’t you call me a thief? Tell me. What did I steal exactly? Otherwise, I’m suing you for slander.” Caught in a bad moment, Sasha clenched her fists. “J-Just you wait!” I sneered, “Tsk. As if I have nothing better to do than wait for you.” Sasha’s sidekicks persuaded her, “Sasha, forget her. She’s just a creep!” “A creep? You need courage, strategy, and thick skin to get the man. I gave it my all, and it worked.“You girls are basic with your chocolates and snacks. You can’t even compete with me. I played my killer moves right away. “I don’t feel beneath you at all.” The crowd nodded in agreement. “Preach, sister! That’s the way to do it! The whole act of being prim and proper is only for appearances. It’s all about snagging the hottest guy on campus.”“I witnessed the whole incident at the gate the other day. You have guts, girl. Was the dog yours? It’s such a good boy. Can I borrow it sometime?” “I’ve been pursuing my crush since forever, but he hasn’t responded

I mustered my courage. “Exactly. Luke and I are doing great. I’m joining him for his rehearsal today.”“I don’t believe you. Prove it.” Sasha was not backing down one bit. I was dumbfounded as to how she expected me to produce evidence. Luke looked at me with a sigh. I went stiff. “No way.” “Stop talking!” Pinching my chin, he pecked me on the cheek. I nearly jumped out of my skin, but Luke held me down. “Don’t move, or we’ll blow our cover.” Jesus Christ. He was a nut. Before I could hit him, Luke caught my hand and pulled me against his chest. He looked up at Sasha. “Happy now?” Throwing her hands over her face, Sasha ran off. She even snapped me an angry look before leaving. I didn’t mean for this to happen. As applause and whistles filled the air, I turned red in the face. “You honestly make me—” I gritted my teeth, but he cut me off abruptly. “Save me the lecture. People are watching.” It was my cue to swallow my anger. Once the crowd dispersed, he shuffled

I tried Luke’s number, only to find that his phone had been switched off. I wanted to cry. Giving Jorja a bear hug, I whimpered, “Luke’s out to get me.” Jorja guffawed. “He’s pretty vindictive, but not to worry. You’re not the one getting embarrassed. Why not wear something to fit the theme tomorrow? How about a SpongeBob outfit?” I felt bad. “I don’t know about that. “Let’s just forget it.” Jorja was frustrated. “You’re such a coward.” She just didn’t get it. Luke was popular with the girls. By pulling that stunt, I would become public enemy number one. I’d rather stay alive, thank you. Night rolled around, but no dinner request came from Luke. He probably feared the random meal I would get him. Still, I felt sorry enough to pick something up for him. I walked into a crowd outside his dorm. One to love gossip, I squeezed my way into the crowd as the foreign languages department’s school belle presented Luke with a box of chocolates. That piqued my interest, fo
