Chapter 16

He opened the glass door, but there was no one outside.

Samson raised his hand to massage the space between his brows, and he felt tired as he leaned against the wall outside the door and lit a cigarette.

It was as if he had been under a spell lately. He often had hallucinations.

“How dare that thief come and ask for the pendant!? She has some serious guts.”

“That woman looked quite innocent and pretty. I’m sure she’s able to get a job. Why would she have to resort to being a thief?”

The shop assistants were gossiping as they talked amongst each other.

Samson tossed the cigarette butt into the trash can, and walked over to the shop assistants, emanating an extremely cold aura as he did so.

“What are you guys talking about?”

The shop assistants were trembling in terror, they were anxious as they raised their heads to look up at Samson.

The man had an aura that was intensely domineering, and they did not even dare try taking a second glance at him. They felt as though their hearts were going to jump out of their chests.

“We were talking about the thief who stole Miss Plath’s pendant. She came here again just now and asked us to return the pendant to her…”

Samson furrowed his brows and then opened the door and ran out again.

At the rented house.

After picking up a few empty mineral water bottles on the way home, Summer sat outside the bench in front of the rented house for a very long time in a daze.

She did not remember her life before the accident at all. Had she picked up that pendant off the roads, or had she stolen it?

She washed the Chinese cabbage she picked up off the ground of the wet market. She then cracked two eggs that she had just bought into a bowl.

She had to fill her stomach.

“This smells really good. Baby, you’re hungry, aren’t you? We’ll be having some eggs very soon.” Summer smiled as she caressed her belly and was feeling pretty optimistic as she made some soup with the eggs and the cabbage.

She had no idea how rich Jasper was, much less how powerful he was in Sea City.

All she knew was that Jasper had rescued her, brought her home and took care of her for a year… He must have spent a lot of money on her.

After drinking the bowl of hot soup, Summer confidently scrolled through her cell phone.

She was about to find a job.

She was doing this for the sake of her baby. Aside from this, she also had to make a living to survive.

She had been walking on the streets for a very long time, and her hands had gone red from the cold.

Because she had no memory of anything, even the stores in malls were not willing to hire her as a sales promoter.

There was a loud bang, and Summer abruptly snapped out of her reverie.

A van had crashed into the pole in front of her.

Summer was shocked as she took a step backward. Suddenly, she was afflicted with a huge headache.

“Let’s do it!”

Two men got out of the van. They were wearing caps and face masks and were holding baseball bats.

Summer’s heart was beating rapidly. She gazed into their eyes for a very long time, and it frightened her.

Why did they… look so familiar?

“Hm.” Her headache was getting worse and worse, and fragments of memories flashed through her mind.

The ground was covered in snow. There was an accident. There was blood.

“Sum, come home with me.”

......

Who? Who did this voice belong to?

“Ah!”

Summer screamed and fled subconsciously.

The two men glanced at each other before they started chasing her while still holding their baseball bats.

“Little rabbit, why are you running?”

At the end of the street, Adrian was closing the door of his car while holding a stack of nutritional supplements.

Summer was anxious and panicked as she hid herself behind Adrian. With trembling fingers, she pointed at the two men opposite her who were hiding in the dark.

“Please save me…”

Adrian froze for a moment and looked at the men.

The two men immediately hid their baseball bats and left as soon as they saw Adrian.

‘Those people are after this little rabbit?’

Adrian furrowed his brows, and his gaze was profound as he looked at Summer.

Summer had neither relatives nor friends in Sea City, and they were not even able to investigate her identity. Why would anyone have a reason to go after her?

“Little thing, what on earth is your actual identity?” Adrian walked upstairs with Summer as he held the nutritional supplements. “Do you know those two people?” he asked meaningfully.

“N-no.” Summer looked like a torn ragdoll that had lost its soul. She kept shaking her head as she sat on the couch.

“Don’t go outside if there’s nothing important.” Adrian warned her and went to the kitchen.

“Jasper, there are people who are after your little rabbit. You’d better investigate things.”

Adrian gave Jasper a call to inform him about the incident.

“I think that you need to put more effort into investigating Summer’s identity. I looked into Country M…”

“Jasper, it’s almost time. Are you coming with me?”

Victoria’s voice rang out from the other end of the line.

“Alright. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up first.” Jasper did not even wait for Adrian to finish his words.

There was rage in Adrian’s heart as he sighed. Had Victoria seriously stolen Jasper’s soul?

He looked around the kitchen, which was extremely bare. There were only a few leaves of Chinese cabbage and the shells of two eggs.

“Are these all that you’ve eaten for the past two days?” Adrian was stunned.

“I…” Summer had not gotten over the shock. She was unwilling to admit that she had no money.

“Don’t tell me that Jasper didn’t give you any money!? He has seriously gone crazy!” Adrian yelled out in shock.
