Chapter 3

Penulis: Silky Stars
Sophie leaned back against the couch, basking in her companions' flattery.

"Sophie, what's the next plan for him?" one of them asked. "Now that you've got the shares, this thing will just be an eyesore if you keep him around."

Sophie lit a cigarette and exhaled a puff of smoke.

"I've already contacted that private psychiatric hospital out in the suburbs. The director there is an old fling of mine. They'll send a car to pick him up first thing tomorrow morning.

"That place is easy to get into but impossible to leave. I'm going to have him try all kinds of new treatments until he turns into a real lunatic."

She crouched down and slapped my cheek. "Honey, are you happy? You're moving to a new home."

I giggled idiotically and nodded.

"New home, new home… Sophie, hugsies…"

I reached for the hem of her skirt.

She dodged me with a look of pure disgust and backhanded me across the face.

"Get away from me. Don't touch me with your filthy hands, you piece of trash!"

The crowd erupted into another wave of laughter before finally leaving.

Sophie locked the door behind them and hummed as she headed to the bathroom for a shower.

Meanwhile, I stood up and wiped the coffee stains from my face, my gaze cold and piercing.

I walked over to the safe and punched in a sequence of numbers, a password she assumed I had long forgotten.

Inside, there was no cash. There were only dozens of empty prescription bottles.

There was also a backup copy of every piece of evidence I'd gathered over the past six months, including all her affairs and every time she had drugged me.

The sound of running water in the bathroom gradually stopped.

Sophie walked out, wrapped in a bath towel, only to freeze when she saw me standing right in the middle of the living room.

"Who told you that you could stand up? Get back on your knees!" she barked instinctively, grabbing a crystal ashtray off the table and hurling it right at me.

I stepped aside to dodge it.

"Lucas, are you asking for trouble?" Sophie shrieked.

She lunged forward to slap me, only for me to catch her wrist.

"Sophie, I think I took a few too many pills. I'm feeling a little too lucid," I said, staring into her eyes, my voice entirely flat and devoid of any emotion.

A flicker of panic crossed her eyes.

"So what if you're lucid? As far as the world is concerned, you're a certified lunatic. I have the medical report, and the share transfer agreement is already legally binding. Even if you call the cops, they'll just think you're having a psychotic episode!" she said.

I shoved her onto the couch, then walked over to the pantry and hauled out two cans of gasoline I had prepared ahead of time.

"Lucas, you psycho! What are you doing?" Sophie shrieked, scrambling off the couch to make a break for the front door.

I pulled a remote control out of my pocket and hit the button to lock every single door and window in the house.

To facilitate my treatment, she had intentionally remodeled the mansion into a fully sealed, soundproof space, even going so far as to seal the windows.

Now, this place had become a perfect iron cage.

"Didn't you say I was just a pet?" I asked.

Pouring the gasoline over the floor, I looked over at her with a smile. "Corner an animal long enough and it tends to tear its master to pieces."

Sophie shrank into the corner of the couch, shaking like a leaf.

"Honey, I'm sorry. I was just kidding. Those pills were for your own good. I really do love you!" she said.

I pulled out my phone, then clicked on the group chat.

"Look, Godmother. I'm in the group too."

Pointing at one of the group admins' profile pictures, I said, "Those little psychological tactics you taught them are actually incredibly outdated. Do you know why this group was able to exist for so long without ever getting flagged or shut down?"

Sophie's eyes went wide as she stared at the familiar profile picture.

"Because this group was created just for you, so I could see exactly how rotten and depraved you could get," I revealed.

I swiped the screen, bringing up a massive archive of every single chat log and file.

That was when Sophie went completely limp against the couch.

"You were never crazy? Then those pills—"

"Oh, those pills? I fed them all to the goldfish in the tank. Even when it died, it looked a lot better than you do right now."

I pulled out a match and struck it, a flame instantly flaring to life.

Staring at the flame, Sophie let out a blood-curdling scream as she frantically pounded against the sealed floor-to-ceiling windows.

"Honey, we aren't quite finished yet," I continued. "Do you know who actually arranged the car that's coming to pick me up tomorrow?"

Richard and Evelyn, who used to act so high and mighty, were now reduced to roaming the streets, scrounging through trash cans just to stay alive.A month later, I sat in the visitation room of the detention center, looking through the glass at the woman across from me.Sophie barely looked like herself anymore.Half of her hair had already gone gray, and her face was covered in jagged scratch marks, souvenirs from the brawls she had gotten into with the other inmates. She picked up the telephone receiver, her hand shaking uncontrollably."Are you satisfied now, Lucas? I've lost everything, and I'm about to go to prison."I leaned back against my seat. "We aren't quite done yet."I pulled an official psychiatric evaluation report from my briefcase and pressed it against the glass. The patient listed on the report was none other than Sophie. Her diagnosis was severe schizophrenia, accompanied by violent tendencies.Sophie stared blankly at the report. "That's impossible… I'm no

Hudson whipped his head around, glaring at Sabrina. "What's that supposed to mean?""The 30 million dollars I lent Sophie to trap for Lucas didn't come from me."Sabrina cackled wildly. "I borrowed it from an overseas cartel. Sophie's name is on the contract as the debtor, but guess whose name is listed as the guarantor? It's yours, Hudson."Hudson's face turned ashen.Without a word, he drove the knife straight into Sabrina's thigh.Sabrina screamed, clutching her wound as she collapsed onto a pool of blood."If I'm going down today, I'm taking you with me!"All of a sudden, she retrieved a pistol from beneath the couch cushions and aimed it directly at Hudson's chest.A gunshot rang out as a chaotic mess of shouting and the sounds of struggle echoed through the listening device."Let's head upstairs," I instructed Nathaniel.By the time we pushed open the doors, the suite was in total disarray.Hudson had one hand pressed to his bleeding shoulder, while his men pinned Sabr

I pulled out my phone and dialed a number. Before long, the low rumble of engines echoed from outside the warehouse. Hudson and his men had arrived and were now blocking the entrance."Well, well, well, Sophie. Didn't see this coming, did you, you backstabbing bitch?" Hudson sneered, his eyes burning with fury the second he spotted her.The color instantly drained from Sophie's face as she turned her gaze to me in absolute horror. "Lucas, you sold me out!""I simply told your creditor where to find you," I said calmly."The envelope!" she shrieked, frantically trying to tear the documents to pieces. However, one of Hudson's men lunged forward, delivering a brutal kick that sent her flying back before snatching the envelope from her hands."Smart move, Lucas," Hudson remarked, opening the envelope and checking its contents with a satisfied nod. "I'll remember this. As for this bitch, I'm going to personally show her what it means to suffer a fate worse than death."They grabbed

I instantly understood."I'll handle this, Dr. Ross," I said.At 5:00 pm, I drove to the area near that alleyway by myself. I parked somewhere hidden and watched as Nathaniel's daughter, Emma Ross, strolled down the path, her backpack slung over her shoulders and her headphones in her ears. Not far behind, a beat-up van was tailing her.Inside that van were Shane and his crew of street thugs.I started the car and trailed the van from a safe distance. As the road hit a sharp curve, the van suddenly sped up and swerved horizontally, cutting across Emma's path. The door flew open. Shane and two of his thugs jumped out, lunging forward to drag her inside. That was when I floored the gas. My engine roared as I rammed my car straight into the side of the van. The sheer force of the impact sent the van flipping onto its side, launching Shane and his crew onto the pavement.I stepped out of the car, gripping a wooden baseball bat.Emma stood frozen in sheer shock, but my men stepp

"By now, she's probably on a boat headed overseas, getting ready to pay off her debt the hard way," I said.Evelyn's eyes rolled back into her head as she collapsed right then and there. Her husband, Richard Hayes, and Shane rushed to catch her, looking back at me with absolute terror in their eyes.In the end, they slunk back into the taxi and left."Mr. Vaughn, I traced the IP addresses of every active member in The Domestication Project," Nathaniel said, handing me a tablet. On the screen was a highly detailed dossier, containing the profiles of every person who had come by for a "show".Every single piece of information, including their pictures, names, addresses, and place of employment, was fully compiled."Each of them has used similar methods to control their partners," Nathaniel added.I clicked on the profile of the wavy-haired woman who had poked the back of my hand with her high heel. Her name was Naomi Brooks, the chief financial officer of a publicly traded corpo

I looked Sophie dead in the eye as I explained, "The director of that psychiatric hospital is indeed an old flame of yours. "Unfortunately, he was taken into custody yesterday morning for bribery and medical malpractice. The person running that place now just happens to be my attending physician."I pointed outside, where faint red lights were already flashing in the distance."The car is here early," I remarked. "But it's not here for me."Sophie shook her head frantically, but what I said next sent a chill running down her spine."Oh, right. I almost forgot. That share transfer agreement you signed a few days ago? I secretly swapped out the final page."What you actually signed was a guarantee on a massive high-interest loan. The amount is so astronomical that you won't be able to pay it back in this lifetime."And the creditor is sitting right outside in that very car. You know, the man who kept telling you he loved you and wanted to run away with you."Sophie looked out th
