Chapter 57

The ship is swaying back and forth. Natasha is sleeping in her bed, snoring with her hand on her belly. She doesn't have that big pregnant body yet, although the fortuneteller on the ship said she is having twins.

I glance at my sister while wrapping my hand around the door handle. The light is dim inside the room, and the darkness has fallen outside, but the storm is calming down.

"I will be back in the morning... Sleep tight, sis..."

My eyes land on the corridor after I've closed the door behind me. I know it's safer to stay inside, but my heart wants to head outside and see my dolphin friends. The lifeboat has become my hideout, and I feel more at home where I can smell the saltwater.

Sometimes I miss being a mermaid. I think about it often, how great it was to jump through the waves and feel total freedom. Nothing could stop me as I swam through the currents. Adrenaline pumped through my veins, the fish surrounded me, and I loved tha
