Author's pov

Moving in was supposed to be Fun.

At least that was what Liam Calloway genuinely thought.

Maybe there won't be hearts and rose petals, but at least civility.

He had showed up with his sleeves rolled, smug smirk in place and ready for some “cute bonding moment”.

Maybe a little awkward laughter. Some tension in the hallway, a little flirty banter. Some smirks. A shared coffee or two. Maybe even an accidental shoulder graze that would make her blush or something. And all in all some fake-marriage fluff.

What he did not expect was Ivy Monroe in full boss mode, she was holding a clipboard, wearing sunglasses, and a face that screamed do not test me.

“Your stuff goes in the left wing,” she said, not even looking at him as she continued writing God knows what on the clipboard.

“Wait… we’re not unpacking together?”

She blinked once. “Why would we?”

Liam frowned. “I don’t know… married people things?”

Ivy didn’t even waste breath on that. She just turned and walked away.

LIAM’S POVOf course, Claudia came back to ask for my help. I honestly don’t know what I was expecting, but yeah, this was probably part of it.She came close and tried to put her hand on my arm, but I flinched away. She laughed with a low and soft voice that she probably thought would pass as maternal.“Jackson’s business is struggling,” she started slowly, like she was forcing herself to keep her voice low. “If you would just extend them some of your resources– just a loan, something temporary. It would mean the world.” I laughed humorlessly. She wanted me to save her husband’s business so her position in his household would be even more cemented. Of course, she only remembered she had a son somewhere only when she needed his help. “A loan? You mean a lifeline.”Her eyes narrowed, her tone sharpened as she no longer bothered to keep up the maternal act. “Don’t be cruel. You’re in a position to help, Liam. Isn’t that what family is for?”That word ‘family’ hit me like a slap.“Famil

  • Plain ivy? No more!!   Chapter 49

LIAM’S POVI have always hated getting called back home for dinner, whether by my father or my so-called mother. Hell I hated being in that house at all.The house or should I say estate has always smelled like over polished oak and ghosts and I’ve felt irked by it since like forever now, but tonight it felt even worse, all I could feel was bitterness. The very instant dinner ended and desert was being served, claudia instantly came to whisper in my ears that she wanted to see me privately. Seems like she was finally about to reveal her intentions behind coming back this time. I could already feel my anger rising for the upteenth time today but then I felt her gaze on me, Ivy. I knew how inquisitive and stubborn she can be when she gets curious and as much as I wanted to be open with her….not today. Talking about claudia with her right after dealing with claudia herself might make me tip over the edge and I dont want ivy to think I was mad at her or something just because I couldn’t

  • Plain ivy? No more!!   Chapter 48

IVY’S POVClaudia Daniels looked like she stepped right out of a society magazine, her hair straight and short was combed to perfection, pearls at her throat and her silk dress of a shade of icy blue that somehow matched the sharpness in her eyes.“Liam” she said smoothly, with a voice that seemed to carry the weight of years unspoken.“Mother.” his reply was also as brief, with a clipped, formal voice. Then her gaze slid to me, I could feel her sizing me up in one swift glance, my dress, my heels, even the way I stood next to him. “And this must be ivy.” her smile didn’t quite reach her eyes, “you’re prettier than I expected.”I blinked. “Thank you?”“Of course….” she wanted to say more but Liam cut in with a firm voice, “What are you doing here and why did you insist on seeing me?”She turned to face him and even I could tell she was not being truthful as she replied with a bland voice “Let’s just say I missed you Liam, now let’s go have dinner shall we?”The Calloway dining room w

  • Plain ivy? No more!!   Chapter 47

IVY’S POVLiam had probably already been pacing for about half an hour by the time I walked back into the living room. His phone was buzzing on the coffee table again, the name flashing clear across the screen.Mother.He still didn’t pick it up, he just ran a hand through his hair and muttered something that sounded like curses under his breath.“How long has it been now? She’s not going to stop calling until you answer.” I said as I leaned against the doorway. His sharp eyes flicked to me, he looked irritated...not at me though.”You don’t know her.” “Maybe not,” I replied, folding my arms. “But I do know persistence when I see it.”He let the phone ring until it cut off, but seconds later, it started ringing again. It was still the same name, same insistence. This time, he looked at me and I stared him down until he sighed and grabbed it, he swiped to answer but kept his voice flat.“Mother.” A pause, then another sigh. “Fine, I’ll come. Another pause, his jaw clenched. “No, I’m co

  • Plain ivy? No more!!   Chapter 46

IVY’S POVI swear I wasn’t looking for any secrets; I simply wanted to grab a file from his study, it was a folder that Mason had asked me to pass on to our PR team. But when I got there, the laptop was still glowing, some files were half-open and strewn around on the desk, he stepped out to make a call, and I already mouthed that I was going in to him, and he agreed, so this wasn’t on purpose. I normally don’t care enough to snoop, I mean, I had my own empire to run and my own deadlines to meet, but the subject line in his inbox caught my eye.INVESTOR PROPOSAL --They asked for leverage with the Monroe name.I felt my stomach twist, and I clicked on it before I could stop myself. It was a simple email from his assistant, about a foreign investor that was offering a sizeable sum, but apparently they needed more leverage from Liam, so the assistant was suggesting that he leverage on the Monroe name. It was honestly the easy way out, but on the account that he tied my father’s reputati

  • Plain ivy? No more!!   Chapter 45

Ivy's POV The storm had finally slowed down, but not completely. But at least the headlines has finally stopped screaming "Affair" and "Scandal," all thanks to Liam shutting it down at the press conference. I thought once the noise faded, things would go back to normal, but it didn't seem so. Because Liam hasn't been himself since. He didn’t actually say anything out loud, but I noticed it. I noticed the way his ties were always loosened, like he couldn’t quite breathe. The way he had so many eye bags from too many late nights. I saw the way his study didn't look as pristine as usual when I walked past, papers were scattered all over his office desk, all sort of slides, numbers and notes with scribbled red ink.Normally, I would have left him to it. He was Liam Calloway after all. He always thrived under pressure. But this time I just couldn’t do it.That’s why I walked in on him past midnight with a bunch of files I just spent the past few hours sorting out.He didn’t hear me com
