Author: Hunk Alert

Chapter 1

Author: Hunk Alert
A flippant male voice came from the private room, edged with amusement. "Come on, Rebecca. You've been playing the broke college student for five years, and you still aren't tired of it?

"And all this for a bet? Just to see if you could land Sebastian, the so-called business prodigy. I've got to hand it to you."

I stopped short, as if struck by lightning.

Right then, another man spoke up. It was Tobias Wright, Rebecca Milton's childhood friend.

"The Grants are on the brink of collapsing. I heard Sebastian even fell out with his family because of you. Poor guy," he commented with a hint of glee.

Then, Tobias changed the subject.

"You're not actually planning to marry him, are you?" he asked tentatively.

The room fell silent at once.

Moments later, my girlfriend, Rebecca, said, "Marry him? Don't be ridiculous. I'm just waiting for him to propose. Then, I'll expose the truth about the bet right there. The look on his face will be priceless."

A chill settled over me as my heart sank.

Tobias let out a soft chuckle. "You've been together for five years, and you're telling me you never felt anything for him?"

"I was just toying with him." Rebecca scoffed. "If he took it seriously, that's his loss. Tobias, you should know who I really love, shouldn't you?"

Her voice softened at the end, full of undisguised affection.

I couldn't feel my limbs as I turned and walked back to the car. Each of my steps was heavier than the last.

Neon lights flickered outside the window, but none of it reached me.

Right then, memories came rushing back like a rising tide.

Five years ago, I met Rebecca in a bar. She had been a broke college student working there. After accidentally spilling a drink on a customer, she'd been cornered by a group that started giving her a hard time.

She pressed her lips together stubbornly, defiance written across her face. However, the embarrassment in her eyes gave her away.

I'd just been passing by and stepped in to help her out. From that moment on, she latched onto me.

Rebecca said she had no way to repay me, so she might as well give herself to me.

I had taken it as a joke and never expected her to actually start checking on me constantly. She was attentive in every little way.

When I worked late, she'd wait up with a homemade meal. When I got sick, she'd cross half the city in the pouring rain just to bring me some seafood bisque from my favorite place.

"Seb, you deserve the very best in the world," Rebecca had said.

Even the strongest man couldn't resist that kind of persistence, especially when she was young, beautiful, and so thoughtful.

Before I knew it, I had fallen for her, and we started dating. She was four years younger than me.

I thought we felt the same way about each other. However, in the end, it had all been one-sided from the very beginning.

Suddenly, the car door was yanked open. The smell of alcohol, laced with her familiar perfume, flooded in.

Rebecca, who was a little tipsy, slid into the passenger seat and leaned against my shoulder like she always did. She nuzzled closer, soft and affectionate. "Seb, what took you so long? I've been waiting forever."

There was an intimate note of reproach in her voice as she added, "Why didn't you call me when you got here? You had me worried."

I swallowed the storm raging inside me and forced a smile. "I just arrived. Didn't want to interrupt you."

Rebecca didn't notice anything amiss. With a contented sigh, she kissed my cheek. Then, her head tilted, and she fell asleep against my shoulder.

"Tobias… T-Tobias, don't be mad…" she mumbled incoherently.

I smiled. However, the tears came anyway, burning as they slid down my cheeks.

A jolt of alarm shot through me, and I instinctively sidestepped. Victoria reacted faster. She yanked me behind her and drove a kick into Tobias' wrist, sending the knife clattering to the ground. Almost immediately, the bodyguards charged forward and subdued the wildly struggling Tobias. "Sebastian Grant! This is all your fault! You ruined my life! You destroyed it all! This is what you've done to me!"He was pinned to the ground, but he still roared, and his eyes glinted with malice.Victoria held my hand tightly. She looked down at him with cold eyes. "You brought this on yourself."In the end, Tobias was sentenced to several years in prison for attempted assault. As for Rebecca, when she learned of what Tobias had done, she broke down completely and went mad. She spent her days in her cell, clutching a pillow and muttering to herself. One moment, she was laughing, and in the next, she'd be crying. Over and over, she repeated the same words. "Seb loves me… He'll come see

I had thought what Rebecca and I had was over. I never expected her to come after my family or me. I had barely settled back into work at Grant Corporation after my honeymoon when Rebecca called. "Sebastian Grant, divorce Victoria and come back to me," she demanded. Her voice was low, and she sounded obsessed. I almost laughed at her sheer audacity. "Rebecca, do you even hear yourself?""You really think I don't know, huh?" she snapped. Her voice was laced with sick certainty. "You loved me too much to marry someone else. You're just doing this to spite me!"Then, Rebecca changed tack. A note of threat crept into her voice. "If you don't do as I say, I can't promise your family won't suffer for it."Rage surged through me at once, and I said coldly, "Go ahead and try. Let's see who ends up regretting it."I hung up and immediately set my counterattack in motion. I gathered everything I had on Rebecca and Tobias—the absurd bet they'd made, his years as an escort, the wealthy

The Milton family elders were livid. Rage and humiliation twisted their expressions as they shouted, trying to stop Rebecca. However, she seemed deaf to it all and lunged forward like a madwoman, desperate to reach me. Just then, Victoria stepped forward to shield me. Her gaze was icy as it settled on Rebecca. "Ms. Milton, this is my wedding. I suggest you show some respect," she said. Her voice carried the faintest edge of mockery.Yet, Rebecca's eyes never left me. Regret was written all over her face as she cried out, "Seb… you don't want me anymore? I love you… You can't leave me!""Ms. Milton, the moment you chose to hide your identity and be with me because of a bet, we were doomed," I said coldly. "You toyed with my feelings for five years. Do you think I should give you another chance, or make you pay for it?"Rebecca's eyes widened in disbelief."Y-You knew?" she asked. Her voice broke with anguish. "N-No! Seb, it wasn't like that. I fell in love with you a long time

Before long, it was Rebecca's birthday. She spent the entire day on edge, constantly checking her phone and waiting for my message. However, it remained silent. There wasn't even a single notification. At last, she couldn't take it anymore. She grabbed her keys and drove to the hotel where I had secretly arranged a proposal for her. However, when Rebecca pushed open the ballroom doors, what greeted her was nothing like the romantic scene she had imagined. Instead, it was a bustling corporate cocktail party. Guests in evening wear filled the room, and laughter rose above the clink of glasses. Rebecca froze. She grabbed one of the hotel managers. Her voice was tight with urgency as she demanded, "W-Wasn't this place reserved for a proposal? How did it turn into a cocktail party?""I'm not sure what you mean, ma'am," the manager replied, confused. "The gentleman who booked this venue canceled a month ago. He's getting married, so he no longer needs it."The words hit Rebecca l

Tobias stared at the scandalous photos on the screen. The color drained from his face, and he swayed as if he might collapse at any moment. "N-No! These pictures are edited!" he stammered. His words were tumbling over each other as he frantically tried to defend himself. "It was Sebastian! That bastard set me up!"Then, he turned to Rebecca, grabbing her arm in desperation and throwing himself fully into the role of the victim. "Becca, you have to believe me! I didn't do any of this! Sebastian's just jealous. He's trying to destroy me!"Rebecca looked at Tobias, so desperate in his defense, then back at the damning evidence on the screen. Her thoughts spiraled into chaos. Yet, even as her friends tried to talk sense into her, she shouted, "I believe Tobias! This is just Sebastian's way of trying to get my attention!"Even though Rebecca claimed that she believed Tobias, a secret thrill stirred within her. If I had gone this far, did that mean I still cared about her? Did that

The anger on Rebecca's face faltered, and a flicker of guilt crossed her features. She looked like she was about to speak when Tobias gently tugged at her sleeve. Then, she took a deep breath before saying, "Tobias and I grew up next door to each other. I won't let anyone push him around. "Seb, stop making a scene. Just apologize to him, and this ends here."Though Rebecca's tone softened, it still carried a commanding edge.Boy next door, huh?I snickered. "Is that so? Well, if you care so much about him, I'll step aside for him. Rebecca, we're done."Having said my piece, I turned and walked away without a backward glance."Sebastian Grant!" Rebecca shouted after me. "Fine! Break up with me then! But don't you dare regret it! Just look at yourself. You're almost 30! Do you really think you're still some kid in his 20s?"Her words cut deep, but I didn't slow down. I simply walked away.Regret? The only thing I'd ever regretted in my life was meeting her. Meanwhile, Rebecca
