Thane🎹

Avia: Means Grandma in Latin.

I knew she didn't remember me last night. If she did, we wouldn't have had the fantastic night that we had. My suspicions were confirmed when she walked into the restaurant and saw me. Her steps faltered, and the look of shock on her face looked comical. If it were under any other circumstances, I would've laughed.

I had to keep my composure and not expose us. It's not the time yet, which is all I could think about as I avoid eye contact with her. If everything goes as planned, it would come as a surprise to everyone or a shock to certain people. I could still feel her eyes on me as I looked down at my phone; she was probably wondering why I was here. Better yet, who am I? Whatever she was thinking about, I could see that it was deep from squinting her eyes at me to get a better look. Since this whole thing is to decide whether or not the wedding should be canceled, why would her one-night stand be here? Speaking of the wedding, where in the hell was this boy? He was supposed to be here already, and yet he was late.

“ Soraya, where’s Jasper? I thought you two would be coming together?” It's as if Avia knew what I was thinking, because she asked the right question.

With her questioning eyes still on me, I heard her say, “Didn't he tell you, we…” Before she could finish, Jasper walked in with a smug look. When his eyes landed on her, it was wiped off. Soon, it appeared.

“ What? Are you here for forgiveness?” he leaned on the chair, hand on his hip.” I will not forgive you that easily. What you did was shameless and reckless.”

“ Shameless?!” Looking baffled, she yelled at him, “ I did nothing to be ashamed about, you, on the other hand, are nothing but a scumbag.”

I leaned back on my chair to better view the show from where I sat, but my Avia wasn’t so impressed. Since she believed they were here to talk about the wedding and not to find that the groom and bride were fighting, that might be a problem.

“ What is going on?” My father and his wife walked in with Thomas behind them, looking just as confused as my Avia. However, Jasper's mother and sister seemed to know what was happening, as evidenced by their stares at Soraya when they entered.

“ Can someone tell me what the hell is going on?” Avia demand.

Taking a deep breath, Soraya turned to her and said, “ The wedding is off; he was cheating on me with my best friend.” She said in one breath, and you can still hear the hurt in her words.

“ WHAT?” Avia yelled at Jasper with a disappointed look on her face. “How could you do this? Soraya has been so kind to you.” The older woman looked so distraught about the whole thing that I thought she would have kicked him out of the family on the spot. Instead, she said very calmly, “Soraya, give us a minute, and we will give you an explanation.”

“ What’s there to explain? She and I fell out of love? That's all, “ Jasper simply said, and his mother nodded in agreement.

“ Love!, felt out love? , Do you even know what that word means?” Soraya asks him.

“ I do, you don't. “ He pointed a finger in her direction. “You're never home, always working.” He started to complain.

She started to laugh hysterically, and for a minute, I got worried for her, until she raised her hand and slapped the be Jesus out of my nephew.

“I'm never?! I'm never home because Im working my ass off to help your company, while you're having fun with my best friend.” She poked him in the chest, “to get everything ready for our wedding, so you didn't have to do anything, so you didn't have to stress about anything!“ Another slap landed. “ You don't have the right to make excuses for being a poor excuse of a man!, for being a damn cheater!”

Laughing, Jasper says, “ Well, now you don't have to worry about that anymore.”

Sitting back down, she closed her eyes, and I could see she was trying to calm herself down or not cry. Once she was good, she said, “ This marriage is off.” She got on her feet and was ready to leave.

I can't let her leave or cancel the wedding, not right now, not when I've got a plan, or anything I have done to this point will be for nothing.

“ No, the wedding stays as planned,” I quickly said before rushing out of the room. I could tell she didn't like that, and she would want to ask more questions. Before that could happen, I went straight to my car.

“ Where to, Sir?” Eric asks.

“Anywhere but here,” I saw that she had followed me out of the restaurant. I had already gotten in the car since I knew she would come after me. “ Did you get everything ready, as I asked you ?”

My idea is wild, and I like everything about it. I lost her once, im not going to lose her again, not when she is right there for me to grab. My nephew's first mistake was cheating on her. His second mistake was letting her go; his third mistake was messing with my woman, and I will make sure he regrets the day he decided to hurt her. He might've been an idiot to let such a woman out of his grasp.

Over the years that I have been watching over her, I have seen a strong, independent, and confident young girl rise to become a beautiful Lady with her own business—a business my nephew is unaware of, and I admire that about her. I think that's what fuels my crazy idea, knowing that she could hold her own.

“ Yes, Sir, you don't have to worry about a thing,” Eric says excitedly. I've got everything under control.”

That's when I should be worried, because he gets excited and makes a mess, and I have to clean it up.

“ Sir, The Shaw has entered the bid for the land you want,” he said.

Damnit, I've been eyeing a piece of land since I heard the Sage put the project out. If the Shaws are in the bid, they will complicate things.

“ Keep your eyes on it, and whatever they offer, you need to offer three times,” I told him. Just as my phone vibrated in my pocket, I pulled it out and saw it was a text from my brother.

“Let's meet for drinks.”

That's code for you. You need to tell me what's happening.

My dear little brother hates to be in the dark.

“ Sure,” I text back, before putting the phone back in my pocket.

I lean back on the chair, my thoughts filled with Soraya, her smiles, her smell, and how soft her skin feels under my fingertips. I couldn't wait to get her back in my arms. Still, one thought scares me the most: the world sees me as a cold-hearted playboy. It's the image I created, but will she feel the same or have a different opinion?

  • Please, call me Auntie    Epilogue

    147. Soraya🍒The piano room has always been my favorite, so I made sure we had one in this new house when we were looking for a place. The soft lighting, quiet elegance, it was a place where everything slowed down except my heart.Tonight, it beat a little faster because if my plan doesn't go as planned, everything will be ruined. I glanced around, making sure everything was perfect: the champagne chilled, the glasses set, the fresh fruit, and the cheeseboard arranged just right. Soft music played in the background, the notes floating through the room like a promise. And me? I stood there in nothing but silk, a robe that barely clung to my body, teasing more than it hid.Waiting for my husband. The door opened quietly behind me, I didn’t turn right away, I didn’t have to cause I felt him“Trying to distract me, Mrs. Kline?” Thane’s voice was low, amused, and dangerous.A smile curved my lips as I slowly turned to face him.“Is it working?” I asked softly.Hi

  • Please, call me Auntie    The Ending

    146. Thane🎼Two weeks laterThe cemetery was quiet, not the heavy kind that hangs over funerals, but the peaceful kind that settles over places where time has already done its work. Thomas stood beside me as we faced the headstone, our mother's headstone. For years, neither of us had come here with too much anger, too many unanswered questions, buried along with her. Now that the truth is out, the lies are gone, even when they took another important person from us, but it all led us to the truth eventually. Somehow, standing here becomes easier, seeing the names of the women who took care of us until they could no longer do it, feels strange. Thomas rubbed the back of his neck, staring down at the flowers he had placed earlier.“Feels strange finally being here,” he admitted.“Yeah,” I said quietly, resentment on my part not for her but for the fact that I couldn't protect her or them made me not come here. We stood there a while longer before walking a few

  • Please, call me Auntie    Three months later

Soraya🍒Months have a strange way of smoothing the edges of chaos. The city still moved the same. Cars still rushed through the streets, people still laughed in cafés, and life kept pushing forward as if nothing had ever happened, but for those of us who lived through it, everything felt different.I had taken control of Jasper’s old company, though not in the way people expected. Publicly, a new CEO ran the place, a sharp, experienced businessman I hired to be the face of the operation. Then I went to visit him, and he was looking worse than I expected for a man who had just been in jail for a few weeks. “What? You're here to gloat!” He sneers behind the glass. I shake my head in shame, “ I thought you should know no one will get you out, your father and grandfather are gone.” I placed the picture against the glass for him. “ You might as well get comfortable in there.” “ No, no! Impossible, you're lying!” he was yelling. The guard behind him approache

Thane🎼Three Months later. That's how long it took for us to settle the dust, three months since the gunshots echoed through the Kline house. I watched the man I used to call my father die at my feet in the hands of a son he did everything for; the irony of the story didn't lose its shine on me. At the end of it all, one lesson learned was that secrets buried for decades ripped the family apart. No one came out alive, literally. Now the house was gone, sold, stripped of everything that once carried the Kline name. I stood in the empty living room, the late afternoon sun stretching long shadows across the hardwood floor. The place felt hollow now, like the walls themselves were relieved to be rid of us finally. A moving crew had already cleared most of the furniture. Only a few boxes remained scattered around the room.Thomas moved through the hallway carrying another box of old documents.“Hard to believe this place is finally done,” he muttered.I didn

  • Please, call me Auntie    Loose end

143.Soraya🍒I was just about to get comfortable on the couch when I noticed that Thane had forgotten his phone long after he left. It sat on the kitchen counter, where he must have set it down while grabbing his keys. When Thomas came to pick him up, they were rushing to meet their father to find the truth. I hope they get the answers that they are going after. With a sigh, I drop the book on the table, pick up the phone, and look at it before grabbing my jacket and heading for the door. The Kline house wasn’t far. The roads were quiet at this hour, and the sky was bright with the sun just settling in high up.When I pulled up near the front of the property, the house looked dark; every light inside was off. Something about it made the back of my neck prickle. I stepped out of the car just as a shadow moved along the side of the house, and I froze. There was a shadow moving across the house, moving closer. I saw it was a man; he moved quickly, quietly sli

  • Please, call me Auntie    The end of the line

    142. Thane🎼While she was feeding me a strawberry, I thought about the bath I had prepared for her before coming down to the kitchen to look for her. Before she could respond, I grabbed her around the waist and lifted her off the floor. Why not take the party upstairs instead of waiting? Soraya gasped, clutching the small bowl and plate.“Thane!”“What?” I said calmly, already walking toward the hallway.“I’m holding chocolate!” she pointed out. “And strawberries,” I say with a smile on my face. “You’re going to make me drop them!” she yelled. I couldn't help but laugh at her expression of shock and amusement. “Then hold them tighter.”She laughed despite herself, wrapping one arm around my neck while trying to balance the plate in the other hand.“Where are you taking me?”“You’ll see,” was the only thing I said. By the time we reached the bedroom, Soraya had already figured it out. The bathroom door was open, steam drifting into the room from the large b

    65. Soraya🍒 Last night was one of those nights of sleeplessness. I turned and turned on the bed with no chance of falling asleep, and I got up for some warm milk, thinking maybe that was going to help, but it still didn't help. I stayed awake staring at the ceiling for hours. At the same time, Th

    62. Thane🎼 I have been requesting a meeting with Sage Sr for a week now. Today I finally got a response, and he suggested meeting at a restaurant not too far from the office. I decided to take a stroll before going, and that's when I saw Soraya rushing into the restaurant. Without thinking, I fol

    66. Thane🎼 This week has been particularly hard for me, emotionally and physically. After reading my mother’s diary, I got a better understanding of who the man who called himself my father truly is. It wasn't much, but it was enough for me to conclude that I need to look into him more; the man i

    61. Soraya🍒 “ The wedding was really nice,” I say to Thane as I get into the bed next to him. Rubbing my ankle, I had twisted it during the night. I wasn't sure where or how, but now it's hurting a little. “Sure it was, simple but beautiful,” he said, his phone still in his hand. Putting my
