LOGINJuliet Pierce
I got home, took the longest shower of my life, and fell into bed still tasting Noah on my lips. When I woke up on Sunday morning, Atlas had already sent a message: the electrical issue hadn’t been solved yet. No club tonight.
And if I’m being completely honest… I was relieved. Not because I didn’t want to see Noah (God, that was the only thing I wanted), but because I had absolutely no idea how I would act when our eyes met again.
Sunday passed in the sweetest blur. I soaked up every second with my kids. We had a big family lunch: me, my babies, Celeste, Samy, and Oliver (who showed up out of nowhere with three huge tubs of ice cream and refused to leave when I told him to stay).
I went to bed early. Monday I had an important interview at a big company. It was past time I put my degree to good use.
I woke up before the sun, nerves already crackling under my skin. Black pencil skirt, sky-blue silk blouse, black blazer, low heels: the perfect armor. The club money would be really good by the end of the month, but it wasn’t enough to feel safe. I needed a real, steady job.
“It’s going to work. It has to.”
I repeated it like a prayer the entire subway ride to Manhattan.
The building was a mirror-covered giant that reflected the whole sky. I walked into the lobby with my shoulders back and my best confident smile.
“Good morning,” I greeted the receptionist.
“Good morning! How can I help you?”
“Juliet Pierce. I have an interview scheduled for ten o’clock.”
The woman’s smile faltered. “Miss Pierce, we tried calling earlier… the position you applied for was filled on Friday.”
My stomach dropped.
“But the e-mail said interviews were today.”
“Yes, but there was an emergency and they had to move the hiring up.”
I forced a polite smile while my heart shattered. I needed this job to complement the club money. I couldn’t risk having to move again. Brooklyn was still the safest place, more than a thousand miles from Charleston… from George.
“That’s… such a shame. I was really counting on this opportunity. Thank you anyway, Jenny.” I read her badge and turned to leave.
I pulled out my phone to text Samy the bad news when I heard Jenny on the phone behind the counter.
“Yes… executive assistant to the CEO… all four candidates canceled… yes, right now…”
I froze.
Turned around slowly.
“Jenny… sorry, I couldn’t help overhearing. Did you say there’s an opening for executive assistant?”
She hung up and flashed me a conspiratorial grin.
“You heard right. But Mr. Blake almost never hires women for that role.”
Blake.
The name hit like a slap.
No… it can’t be him. Blake is common.
“I understand…” I murmured while her phone rang again. She signaled “one second” and, after hanging up, looked at me with a mischievous smile.
“Looks like it’s your lucky day. All four scheduled candidates just bailed. HR is desperate.”
“And where’s the luck? You said he doesn’t hire women.”
“He doesn’t usually… but miracles happen.” My smile grew. I just needed to convince this CEO I was the perfect assistant. “I’m going to talk to the director. If he approves, I’ll squeeze you in.”
“Won’t that get you in trouble?”
She shook her head. “Mr. Blake needs someone yesterday.”
“Thank you so, so much, Jenny.”
“Thank me after the director says yes.”
She made the call. He didn’t object. He told her to send me straight up.
Jenny printed my visitor badge, handed me a quick form, and gave me a temporary code.
“Top floor. End of the hallway, right side. Good luck. Mr. Blake is intense, but I have a feeling you’ll handle him just fine.”
I thanked her until my throat hurt and stepped into the elevator.
The ride up felt eternal. Even the cheesy elevator music was mocking my anxiety.
I hadn’t done an interview in years. I had given up my dream job to help that bastard, sacrificed everything so he could take the position I had fought for. All for a love that never existed and a marriage built on fear.
The doors opened.
Lost in memories of my ex-husband, I stepped out without looking and turned right, straight into a solid wall of expensive suit and familiar cologne.
“Oh my God!” I gasped. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t—”
“It’s okay, it happens,” he said, steadying me with a hand on my arm.
That voice.
I looked up.
Declan Reed.
He tilted his head, studying my face like he was trying to place me.
“Have we met?”
I shook my head like a crazy woman.
Please don’t recognize me, please don’t recognize me…
“Jenny said the original position was filled, but you’re here for the assistant role?”
“Yes, sir.”
“Your file hasn’t arrived yet, but we can go ahead. The CEO decided to do this interview himself.”
Of course he did.
“I’m Declan Reed, by the way.” He offered his hand.
“Pierce… Juliet Pierce.”
He frowned for half a second, damn it, he’s trying to remember, then motioned for me to follow.
“Wait here, Miss Pierce. I’ll let Blake know you’re here.”
Blake.
The last tiny hope that it was coincidence died.
His phone buzzed. He glanced at it and smiled.
“No need. Blake just texted: send her in.”
“Thank you.”
I walked toward the door. Before I could knock, Reed called out one last time.
“Oh, Miss Pierce? Don’t let him intimidate you. He growls, but he doesn’t bite.”
If only you knew…
His words only made my heart beat faster.
Will Noah recognize me? And when he does, what am I going to say? Working weekends with him is already torture. Seeing him every single day? Under his command?
Am I ready for this?
I should leave. Go downstairs, thank Jenny, disappear before he sees me.
That’s it.
But before I could move, the door opened.
And there he was.
Black suit, black shirt, sleeves rolled up just enough to show the ink on his forearms, looking like he owned the world and everyone in it.
Those rare green eyes locked on mine.
And with a trembling voice I said the one thing that gave me away completely:
“Good morning… Mr. Noah.”
Juliet PierceI tried to pretend Noah’s presence didn’t affect me. I kept laughing with Atlas and Declan, kept the mood light. But I felt his eyes on me the whole time, and the tension rolling off him every time I spoke to Atlas, especially Atlas, was impossible to miss. When Declan asked for my help with spreadsheets, I almost said no. Extra money is always welcome, but working at the company again meant facing Noah in his own territory. Atlas gave me that encouraging smile and little nod, so I said yes. Great. Now I’d spend the entire weekend dreading Monday.Atlas had to leave suddenly. I noticed the urgency, but didn’t pry. I made a mental note to text him later to check if everything was okay.Declan offered to walk me out. Noah decided otherwise. Just like that, as if my opinion didn’t matter. And in the end, it didn’t.We got into his car. He asked for my address. I didn’t want him driving me to the subway, let alone all the way home. I’d already had enough Noah Blake for one a
Noah BlakeI went after Juliet. We kissed again, harder, deeper, like the world was ending. Then, at the peak of it, she told me to stop. I saw it in her eyes: she was waiting for me to say something, anything, that proved I could give her what she “wants and needs.” But I can’t. So I said nothing.I locked myself in my club office and watched her on the monitors all night. Those eyes don’t just call to me; they speak. And still, I can’t give in.She says she can’t be the kind of woman I like. Truth is, she’s exactly the kind I want… and apparently the only one I can’t have.Saturday came. I had to go to the office; I really do need an assistant. The France trip is in ten days. Declan came to help, and like every Saturday we decided to grab lunch together. He called Atlas to join us.“He’s taking Ju to lunch,” Declan told me on the phone. My blood turned to fire.We walked into the restaurant we always go to, and there they were. She was laughing, wine glass in hand, looking more beau
Chapter 17 – CoincidenceJuliet PierceI dragged myself through the rest of the night. Noah disappeared into his office and never came out, at least not while I was still there. Samy and Penelope kept asking what happened, but I wasn’t ready to talk. How do you explain that you were stupid enough to fall for a man after one kiss… and that the man is completely out of reach?I had promised Atlas I’d help with the finances of his mom’s store. We agreed to meet at lunch. I woke up, soaked up every second with my babies, left them with Celeste, and headed to Brookfield Place.I’d never been there before, so I texted Atlas to meet me at the entrance. The second I arrived, there he was.“Ju…”“Good afternoon, Mr. Atlas,” I smiled. “And please, just Atlas from now on.”“Atlas it is.”He flashed that easy smile and led me inside. The store was on the second floor. He explained he was keeping it closed because he was selling it. He handed me the files, and within seconds I was lost in numbers,
Chapter 16 – Whatever This Feeling IsJuliet PierceI couldn’t look back. I didn’t have the strength to face him again. What the hell is happening to me? I’m not a teenager anymore, swooning just because a man kissed me once. I’m a grown woman. Mature. Responsible… Yeah, right. Who am I trying to fool?Noah undoes me in ways I can’t explain, and seeing him with that woman on her knees shattered something inside me.I asked Atlas for a few minutes because I “wasn’t feeling well.” He let me go without a single question.I ran to the locker room, sat on the bench, hugged my knees to my chest, and tried to calm my body, my mind… and whatever was happening in my heart.Click. The lock turned.I looked up.There he was, those impossible green eyes fixed on me.“Can I help you with something, Mr. Noah?” I tried to sound steady. I failed. I always fail with him.“Why did you run out like that?”“My job was to deliver the accessory. I did. Then I returned to my post.”“I thought your post was
Chapter 15 – Can I Help You?Noah BlakeEver since the interview, Juliet hasn’t left my head for a single second. The urge to go back, to call her and say “yes, the job is yours” has been eating me alive. But she has kids. And kids complicate everything.I need an assistant who’s available 24/7—in every possible way. No conflicts, no emergencies, no divided loyalties. The CEO of Blake Investments needs someone who puts the job first. And that’s exactly what Juliet is… except I know damn well that if it ever came down to choosing between serving me and her children, her children would win every single time. The week at the office was pure chaos, mostly because Reed wouldn’t shut up about how stupid I was for letting her go.“She’s perfect, man.” “Look at this résumé.” “She speaks fluent French.” “Blake, she’s literally perfect for you!”By Friday night I was done listening.I didn’t want to see her at the club. Not yet. Then an old submissive showed up, and I needed to blow off steam.
Chapter 14 – SpellboundJuliet PierceThe week flew by in a blur. No job. No new interviews. But I still had the club, and the money Atlas pays is more than enough to keep us afloat for now. After my almost-accident, I didn’t see Chris again. And honestly? I thanked the heavens for that. After the way he looked at me, the way he spoke… Forget it, Juliet. You already have enough problems, and one of them is almost six-foot-four, built like steel, with eyes that burn straight through you and a mouth… God, what is happening to me?“Ju?!” Samy called from the living room.“Bedroom!”“Wow!” She stopped dead in the doorway. “You look stunning! Loving the makeup and those earrings.”“I officially retired the mask. Looks like this waitress gig is going to last longer than I thought.”“For me it can last forever,” Samy laughed. “What Atlas pays us in one night is almost what we made in three with Ed.”“True. And since single moms apparently don’t stand a chance in this city…” I let the frustra
