Chapter 21

Selena wondered if anyone would be sad if their dear princess was killed by food poisoning?

She laughed at the mere thought of how perfect her plan was. Fion Rossi told her about Nightshade. She was quite intrigued by the idea of a woman being the most feared in all of Italy.

She was impressed as well. Nightshade had managed to keep her identity a secret for years. No one knew who she was and if she belonged to a family.

Her plan was perfect she kept her phone on to hear about the news of Rosalie Bianchi’s death. She couldn’t wait to comfort Roman and for him to fall for her all over again.

Selena was quite surprised when she received a text message from Rosalie Bianchi inviting her to lunch.

She’d received an Email from Nightshade last night telling her today would be the end of Rosalie Bianchi.

The woman stole her life and she had every right to take back what was hers.

Rosalie smiled when Selena walked into Roman’s house without knocking letting herself in like she owned the place.

“I got your message what do you want?” Selena asked in a hostile tone.

Rosalie’s smile only widened and she gestured for Selena to have a seat.

Selena sits down on the sofa, noting she would change these outdated couches as soon as she moves in. She found the navy couches an eye sore. She’d get beige couches that matched her style.

“Mrs. Moretti would you like anything for you and your guest?” Martha Roman’s head maid asked.

‘Mrs. Moretti...’ Selena mocked in her heart. She wouldn’t let Rosalie steal her place for much longer.

Rosalie nods. “We’d like tea and some pastries please Martha...” Rosalie responds without even looking Selena’s way.

Selena glares at Martha’s retreating back. Martha never threated her with the same respect she did that bitch Rosalie.

She didn’t even look her way when she came here in the past. She was going to fire her as soon as she was Mrs. Moretti.

“What do you want Rosalie?” She asks.

Rosalie leaned back into the seat. She smiled expectantly. “Honestly I wanted to speak to you about something.”

Before Selena could say anything Martha returned with Pastries and tea for them. Rosalie’s favourite honey infused earl grey tea.

“You may be excused for the rest of the day Martha...” Rosalie says not breaking eye contact with Selena.

Martha bowed and walked out of the living retreating to her quarters.

Rosalie got up and poured Selena a cup herself and handed it to Selena. “Is there any pastries you wanted?” she asked with a side plate and a pair of tongs in each hand.

Selena didn’t know what to make of Roman’s wife. For the first time she was stomped. She didn’t know what she was up to.

She pointed at a small piece of cake and took the tea Rosalie poured for her. She took a sip to think about what Rosalie was up to.

From she heard, Rosalie wasn’t good at anything in particular, she stayed in her room all the time and barely spent any time with Roman. She kept to herself and none of the staff had tried to get closer to her.

Yet they respected her. They knew her preferences. Like the god awful tea she was drinking right now. If she didn’t have her formal training she would have spat it out. She had an etiquette teacher when she started dating Roman. She assumed she would be his wife and she wanted to be worthy of him.

“Like I said before, I wanted to speak to you about something... I know you tried to play a prank on me, with the prostitutes in Roman’s bed. Too bad for you it just gave me something to do while I couldn’t work.” Rosalie says.

Selena’s hand pauses. Her face shows no emotions. She picked up the cake and started eating the piece of cake. She didn’t many sweet things because was mindful of her figure.

“If that wasn’t enough you did me another favour. You see I had to stop working because Roman was onto me. Imagine my surprise when I see my name on an order form...”

Selena finally realizes something was amiss. Nightshade should be the only one...

Selena made eye contact with Rosalie when she realized she’d made a grave mistake. Rosalie wasn’t in over her head.

The gleam in Rosalie’s eyes the pure unbridled excited as Selena’s gut began to protest at whatever Rosalie’d given her.

Nightshade!

Rosalie wasn’t the sweet innocent girl she wanted everyone to believe she was. She not only fooled Roman but she’d fooled her.

She prided herself at how well she could read people. But when it came to Rosalie she’d completely misread her.

“Wha-what did you give me?” she stuttered out.

Selena’s face breaks out in a cold sweat, her face contorts in pain. She clutches her stomach.

“Right now your insides are being melted. If you wait too long before you take the antidote you’ll die...” Rosalie shows a small vile in her hand find with powder.

“Please...” Selena begged as she fell to the floor.

Roman returned home with a frown. His house was empty. There were no guard up front.

When he enters the living room, he sees Rosalie standing over a body.

“Please...” A familiar voice begs.

Selena?

What on earth was going on? Did she mess with Rosalie again.

His sweet Rosalie.

“You see I can’t give you the antidote if you don’t tell me why you tried to have me killed... Pretty smart hiring Nightshade to poison too bad for you that was the one order she’d never take.”

So that’s what Elena meant. His wife was friends with Nightshade. All this time Elena wasn’t his in to Nightshade was. His wife the sweet and innocent Rosalie. Wasn’t so sweet and innocent he thought her to be.

He quite like this side of her. It stirred something inside of him. He was looking at his wife in a new light.

He watched her press her sneaker clad foot on Selena’s stomach. Selena groaned in pain.

“I didn’t...” Selena begged.

“I already know you’re the one who ordered the poison that would not only melt my insides but that would make my death look like food poisoning.”

Roman frowned. Selena was playing a dangerous game. Trying to kill his wife was punishable by death.

He finally walked forward.

He startled Rosalie she didn’t say a word. Waiting for his next move. She knew it was over. He knew exactly who she was. She was busted.

Selena let out a sigh of relief.

“Give her the antidote Rosa...” He says softly. His eyes gave nothing away. He looked at Selena.

Rosalie handed him the antidote and Roman took it from her and gave it to Selena.

He sighed as he watched Selena throw up all over his carpeted floors.

“Can you call Martha to get someone to clean this up please?” Roman asked Rosalie.

She nods and walked out of the living room.

Roman helped Selena to her feet careful not to let her or him touch any of the vomit on the floor.

“Thank you for saving me from her Roman. That woman has you fooled. She has everyone fooled. She’s dangerous. You need to get rid of her Roman. It’s safer for everyone if you do...” Selena speaks on but Roman’s stuck in his own thoughts.

He a little surprised by Rosalie’s fire. She’s kept this side of her hidden from him. He found himself excited to find out what else she was hiding from him.

When he saw Rosalie standing over Selena. His first thought was grabbing his wife and kissing the life out of her.

He liked seeing that feisty side of her. Of his not so sweet and innocent wife.

He was starting to realize why Elena was so scared of Rosalie. Every family wanted someone strong and commanding.

They wanted someone without empathy. He was sure Rosalie was exactly what the Bianchi family needed.

“Selena don’t speak of my wife in that way.”

“But Roman...” Roman cut her off.

“No but’s. I should kill you for what you did. But given our past I believe you need someone who could keep you in line...” Roman announces and Rosalie hears that as as she walks in.

“No! No! Only you can be my husband. I will only marry you!” Selena shouted. “I’m not marrying anyone else!”

Roman watched as she slipped on her own vomit and fell face first in it. He jumped back so she didn’t get anything on him.

“Martha please get someone to escort the lady out of my house! Make sure she never returns...” he says before walking away.

Chapter 22Charlotte spent the last few days meticulously observing Ezra, Volkan’s supposed wife, a woman who radiated an unsettling aura of fragility and controlled fury. She couldn't control her anger when it came to this woman either. She wasn't sure if she was angry for her or with her. Ezra’s story, of a love-struck naive girl, swept off her feet by a charismatic mafia boss, was riddled with inconsistencies, tiny cracks in the carefully constructed façade. It started with a seemingly insignificant detail: a faint, almost imperceptible smudge of dried blood on the collar of Ezra's silk blouse during their first meeting. Blood that didn't match Ezra's own type, a fact Charlotte had discreetly confirmed through a sample obtained during a seemingly accidental brush of her hand against Ezra's arm. Then there were the inconsistencies in Ezra’s side of the story. The dates of her supposed relationship with Volkan, didn’t align with Volkan’s known whereabouts during that time. Photogra
