Jude’s eyes drop to my hand.

He’s staring at the red perfume bottle.

“What’s in your hand?” He asks.

My fingers close around it immediately, instinct taking over before thought can catch up.

“Perfume.” I say without hesitation.

I search for a way to change the topic, my eyes looking around the room frantically.

“I thought you’d go back to the hospital. You still need some rest.”

He doesn’t say anything immediately, but just steps further into the room. He observes my room, eyes causally movi

I gulp, looking for ways to end whatever this is quickly. Before it gets out of hand.“We are merely a therapist and a patient.” I say.Jude scoffs like I’m ridiculous. As he moves back, I feel relief. But in one swift moment, he takes my chin into his hand, tilting my face to his. “Is a therapist supposed to sleep with their patient?”“Mr Martinez..."“Jude.” He interrupts me. “Call me Jude,”Despite my better judgement, I accept his demand. “Jude, let’s forget about what happened last night.”Saying his name feels dangerous. But what’s even more so, is the dagger we’re talking about.“Forget it?” He looks at me like I’ve made the biggest joke ever. “No. Not when you’ve haven’t given me any good reason why.”I look at him, incredulous. “I don’t need to give you a reason. Just look around!”“I just did, and all I see is you and me.”I shake my head. Emotions build in my chest, and I try to keep my tone levelled, to prevent waking up everyone. “Jude you are my patient. And you’re mar

I wait for Brittany to shout. Wait for her to call her bodyguards to throw me off the ship, because I just came out of her husband’s room at midnight. But she doesn’t. Rather, she looks at me with a raised eyebrow. “Dr. What are you doing here?”I breathe out a sigh of relief, realising she didn’t see me come out. Quickly, before she can think about why I’m at the corridor of his room, I spit out the first lie at the tip of my tongue.“I was looking for some water.”“Oh really?” I can tell from her tone, that she’s unconvinced. But instead of pressing the matter she says. “Take two turns to the left, and you’ll get to the kitchen.”She doesn’t give me time to respond, and just turns around leaving me standing.I feel relieved to watch her go.Then a sense of guilt and dread creeps unto me. Because I’d just slept with her husband who I was supposed to kill.***The next day, we arrive on the island. With the bustle of moving into the apartment there, I do my best to avoid Jude.I

When Jude kissed me the evening the D’Angelo’s first came over, my first instinct was to pull away. But this kiss, on the yacht’s deck ignites something in me. I respond to Jude, kissing him back hungrily. All rationality leaves my mind, with only one thought ringing through. I want more than this kiss. That’s why when he pulls away and rasps. “Let’s go back to my room.”I nod eagerly, and follow Jude back quickly. We move through the lower corridor without speaking. The yacht sways gently beneath us. Thunder begins to rumble in the sky. But I might as well be oblivious to it. Only hearing the sound of my thudding heartbeat. The corridor lights are dimmed for evening and there’s no one around, to see both of us. Jude opens his cabin door and we step inside and he closes it behind us.His room is larger than mine. Everything in his cabin looks like a replica of his room. A wide bed against one wall, and black furniture. The room’s low lighting is low, the sound of the water bea

"I need you to increase the dosage."I look at Brittany, and think of how to reply in a way that won’t offend her. "Increasing the dosage could produce visible symptoms. Surely, he’d go to the hospital and find out."Brittany’s face remains impassive. “The poison isn’t extremely potent. I personally developed it, so I know how it works. She sets her book on the side table with a sigh. "I hired you to follow instructions, Dr. Cecilia. Not to ask me questions."The threat in her voice isn’t hidden. She looks at me with what must be a warning. So I nod, agreeing to her new order.Even though the thought of poisoning Jude any further, feels wrong.Brittany looks at me for a moment longer, then asks. "Or is there another reason you are hesitating?" "No. There is no other reason." I answer hastily, for fear that she’ll see how my emotions have changed. I couldn’t admit to her that I’d begun to care for Jude. Not when I wanted to protect my life. Not when I hadn’t even admitted it to myse

Marianne looks at him. Then she looks at me.I look at Jude.He is not looking at me anymore. He is looking at Marianne, waiting for her to grant him his request. “A therapist...on a couples getaway?” Her face seems to blanch, just thinking about it.“My therapist.” He says. “Ongoing sessions cannot be interrupted. That is a medical consideration.”I almost scoff at the nonsense he’s making up. Marianne seems to be aware, because she begins to protest. “Jude, that is not a medical...”“It is non-negotiable.” He says with finality. Marianne looks at him for a long moment. Then she looks at me again with a frown. Like it’s my fault Jude is putting down this absurd term. I keep my face completely neutral.“Very well.” She says, conceding. “I will have the arrangements updated and sent to you.” She straightens her already straight posture. “You leave Friday morning, whenI look at Jude.“Ongoing sessions being interrupted do not have any medical implications.” I say.“It served its p

He moves further into the room and takes a seat on the chair near the window. He does not relax into it. He sits on the edge, his posture straight, his attention still on me.“Let’s have a session.” He says. The word catches me off“Now?” I ask.“You are here. I am here. The room is quiet. There is no better time.”I nod. Taking the opportunity to walk to the small dresser and set the perfume inside it, face away from him, like it is nothin
