Chapter 111

Lilith’s POV

Cassian fell to one knee.

Something had grabbed his ankle and was pulling him toward the cracked floor.

“Cassian!”

I caught his arm before he could slide farther. Brandon rushed forward and grabbed his other shoulder.

“Get it off me!” Cassian shouted.

He struck at the floor with his sword, but the blade passed through the black substance without cutting it. The thing tightened around his ankle.

A crack spread beneath his knee.

“Lilith, move back!” Brandon ordered.

Chapter 112Cassian’s POV“Who was it?”I kept my eyes on the old man standing across from my desk.He had just told me that someone I trusted had witnessed what happened after my father left the council meeting. Someone who knew what really happened that night. Someone who had kept quiet for all these years. The man looked at me, then at Lilith.“I will tell you,” he said. “But you need to understand something first. The person you are looking for did not simply witness your father's death. He helped make sure the truth never reached you.”My jaw tightened.“Then stop wasting my time and give me a name.”Lilith touched my arm before I could say anything else.“Cassian, let him speak. We need to know what happened, not just who to blame.”I took a breath and leaned back against my desk. She was right. I wanted a name, someone I could drag into this room and force to answer for what had happened to my father. But if I acted before I understood the truth, I could destroy the only chance

Chapter 112Lilith's POVThe voice had called me the blood of Aurelia. It had also called Cassian the blood of the seventh witness.Perhaps it needed both of us."Put your hand on the wolf," I told Cassian. He looked at me as if he wanted to ask whether I had lost my mind."Trust me."He placed his palm against the carving. I pressed my hand against the sunburst. For a few seconds, nothing happened. Then the stone beneath our hands warmed.A thin line appeared between the two symbols. It spread across the door until the entire surface was covered in writing.Cassian withdrew his hand. I read the words aloud."The blood opens the way. The choice keeps it closed." Then the door opened.A small chamber lay beyond it. There were no chains, no moving black substance, and no voice waiting to frighten us. Only a stone box rested on a table.Cassian entered first. He checked the corners before allowing me to follow. Brandon remained by the doorway, keeping watch.I approached the box.It carr

The stone beneath him broke, leaving his lower leg hanging over a dark opening.I didn't have time to argue. I placed my free hand against the floor and called on my celestial power.White light bursted from my palm. The black substance released Cassian, but something beneath the floor struck the stone from below. The impact threw me backward. My shoulder hit the

Chapter 110Lilith’s POV“At last, the son has come home.” The voice was coming from beneath us.Cassian stood at the edge of the opening in the floor. His eyes were fixed on the darkness below, and his hands had curled into fists.“Who are you?” he demanded. No answer came.“Show yourself!” The chains below us rattled.Brandon stepped closer to Cassian. “Your Majesty, we need to get everyone out of here. We don't know what's waiting below.”Cassian ignored him. I reached for his hand. “Cassian.”He looked at me. “Whatever this place wants from you, we need to understand it before we do anything.”His jaw tightened. “It knows my father's name. It knows mine. And it has been waiting for me.”“I know.”“What if it has something to do with his death?”“Then we'll find out what happened.”He looked down into the opening again. I could see the anger in his face, but there was something else beneath it. He wanted answers about his father, and this place might be the only way to get them.I

Chapter 109Lilith's POV"Ask your mate what happened the night his father died."The voice came from beneath the floor. Nobody spoke.I turned to Cassian, expecting him to explain what the voice meant. Instead, I found him staring at the floor with his sword still in his hand. His expression had changed. "Who is down there?" I asked.Cassian didn't answer. "Did you hear what it said?""Yes.""Then tell me what it means."He looked at me. "I don't know who's down there, Lilith.""That wasn't what I asked."Brandon stepped closer to us. "Perhaps we should leave this room first. Whatever is down there has already shown that it can reach us."Cassian nodded."Everyone out. Brandon, get more guards down here. Nobody enters this passage without my permission." The warriors began moving toward the door, but I stayed where I was."Cassian, I need to examine the chamber." He turned to me immediately."No.""You haven't even heard my reasons.""I don't need to. Something down there has attacke

  • Possessed By Him: The Alpha's Trophy   Questions in My Head

Chapter 108 Lilith's POV My heart was beating so hard that I could hear it over the sound coming from beneath the Keep. The second heartbeat continued. It matched mine perfectly. I stepped back from the entrance, and the sound stopped. I moved forward again. It returned. “What is happening?” Brandon asked. “I don't know.” Cassian pulled me behind him. “Everyone, move away from the entrance.” The warriors obeyed, but I couldn't take my eyes off the staircase. Whatever was down there had called my name. It had mentioned my mother, and now it was responding to my presence. I had spent years learning to recognize danger. Maelis had taught me that lesson in the worst possible ways. I knew the difference between something that wanted to frighten me and something that had a reason to be afraid of me. This felt like the second. “Cassian,” I said quietly, “I need to see what's down there.” He turned to me. “Absolutely not.” “You heard what it said.” “I hear
