Leon

I didn’t speak the whole ride home.

Not a word.

My jaw had been locked the entire time, and my hand hadn’t left her thigh. She didn’t say anything either. Just leaned into me, quiet. Broken in places I couldn’t see, but I could feel it—right there, under my palm. That trembling. That silence.

When we pulled up, I didn’t wait for the driver to open the door.

I got out and rounded the car myself.

She was still curled up, her dress halfway down her thighs, looking like something had drained the light out of her eyes.

I slipped off my jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders. She didn’t resist. Just looked up at me, like she didn’t know if it was okay to breathe yet.

I didn’t ask.

I just picked her up.

One arm under her legs, the other around her back. Her body was warm but limp. She buried her face in my neck, and I felt her exhale, long and shaky, like maybe now she could finally let go.

The front door was already open. I didn’t even realize I hadn’t locked it when we left earlie

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 80

LeonThe warehouse smelled like old metal and gasoline, real thick, the kind that clings to your skin no matter how long you scrub. I stood near the edge of the railing on the second floor, looking down at the layout one last time. Crates—empty. Trucks, stationary. Lights dimmed, just enough to bait curious eyes. It was all exactly how I needed it."He's gonna send someone," I muttered under my breath. I could already feel it in my gut. "That arrogant bastard can't resist a big fucking score."Sergio stood beside me, his arms crossed, eyes hard. "You sure about this?""No." I lit a cigarette and let the smoke burn the back of my throat. "But it's the only way I’m gonna flush out that snake.”We’d spread the word two nights ago through a mole who didn’t even exist. Word on the street was that Leon's crew scored a truckload of Russian arms and was dumb enough to warehouse it in an unsecured dock. We made sure the story leaked to one of Don Casey’s lower-rung street dogs…the kind who tal

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 79

LeonMartha was setting down the eggs too slow this morning. Maybe it was just me, or maybe the damn plate was too hot, but the second she placed it down, Tamara leaned over and hissed.“Jesus, Martha. You trying to give us third-degree burns?”Martha flinched, muttering something that sounded like Sorry, ma’am, but Tamara was already smiling which shows she wasn't actually angry but teasing her and reaching for her fork.I took a sip of coffee. “Don’t bully Martha, princess. She’s your only friend.”Tamara looked at me with mock offense. “Yeah, and i’m glad, if not what was I supposed to do? Bake her a cake?”I smirked. “Would’ve paid to see that.”She threw a piece of toast at me, which I caught easily. I bit into it just to piss her off, then winked. She looked like she wanted to stab me with her butter knife, but that little grin tugging at the corner of her mouth gave her away.I liked mornings like this. When the worst thing I had to deal with was Tamara’s temper and overcooked

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 78

LeonThe day started with a headache and a half-finished drink from the night before. I’d left Tamara with Martha, told her I had business. Truth was, I just didn’t want her in my space. Not today, everything was totally fucked in the past few days and it's messing with my head.Something was off. Something had been off for days. Someone was poking at my shipments, scratching at the surface like a fucking rat looking for a way in. I needed answers. Fast.I lit a cigarette and stared at the files spread out on my desk. My hacker pulled data from comms, satellites, everything short of God’s diary. But the leads weren’t connecting clean. Too neat. That’s how I knew someone was covering their tracks well.I heard the door open. Didn’t look up.Only one person walks into my office like they’re afraid I’ll shoot first and ask later.Sean. He took a seat in front of me, his body relaxed on the back of the chair in a position that screams exhaustion. That told me everything I needed to know b

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 77

LeonIt's been a long fucking day tracking my goods, the tension this time put all of us on our toes, Sean's been on the phone for hours pacing about in the living room. The first time it happened, I brushed it off.Shit goes wrong in transport sometimes. Maybe the ship stalled somewhere. Maybe someone pocketed something they shouldn’t. Whatever it was, I didn’t lose sleep over it. Not that night, at least.I was with Tamara. She had this thing she did with her nails, real slow across my chest when she was half-asleep. I remember that more than I remember what movie we were pretending to watch. The way her fingers barely grazed over my skin like she was sketching something only she could see. Her head tucked just under my jaw, her breath warm against my neck. The whole living room had that amber glow from the lamp in the corner, quiet and still like the world had paused just for us.But the second time? No. That one didn’t sit right.Sean knocked before stepping in. He never used to k

  • Possessed by the Devil   Tamara 76

LeonI couldn't leave Tamara's side, not even for a second.Tamara was back home, yeah, but that didn’t mean shit to me. Not when she couldn’t sleep more than thirty minutes without crying out. Not when she winced just from sitting up. Not when she looked at me like she was trying so hard to be okay for me—but I could see she wasn’t.She wasn’t.I was supposed to be at a meeting that morning. Big deal. One of those partnerships I’d been grooming for over a year. Money, expansion, branding—the works. But Tamara woke up at 5:12 a.m. breathing like she’d just run through fire. And that was it for me.I sat on the bed, holding her hand while she cried in silence. She couldn’t even sob out loud. Just quiet tears slipping down her face while she stared at the ceiling like she was trying not to exist. This whole mess was my fault. If I had just kept that bitch in her place. If I hadn’t looked the other way when Sheila started spiraling. If I hadn’t underestimated what Tamara meant to me—what

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 75

LeonThe next day, I learnt Sheila ran.Of course she fucking ran.Sean caught her at some cheap-ass clothing store on the edge of the city. Looked like she was trying to disappear. Had a cart full of hoodies and jeans two sizes too big. A last-minute disguise, maybe. Or desperation. Either way, I didn’t give a shit. They dragged her straight to the warehouse. No frills. No delays.I stood in the middle of the room, arms crossed, back stiff, jaw clenched so tight I could hear my teeth grind. The warehouse smelled like dust and oil. Quiet except for the slow drip of a busted pipe in the corner. It was the same place I used for deals that didn’t require paperwork. Clean enough for blood, dark enough for secrets. Fitting for someone like her.The metal door scraped open. Sean and two other guys shoved her in. Sheila stumbled, her wrists still zip-tied, hair a mess, lips trembling like she hadn’t eaten in days. Good. She saw me and froze.“Leon,” she breathed out, like the sound of my nam
