Chapter 3 You're Not Worth Being My Wife

Author: Flora Hopkins
The nurse was busy at the workstation. She was annoyed by the questions.

But when she looked up and saw Grayson, her expression immediately changed.

What a handsome man!

The nurse blushed and said, "Yes, we have a patient by the name of Belle Walters. Are you looking for her? What's her relationship with you?"

Grayson frowned, which made the nurse think that she had asked too many questions.

She hastily explained, "Please don't get the wrong idea. I wasn't prying. Ms. Walters just said that she doesn't have any family or friends here.

"She said she had a fiancé, but he had an affair with a married woman. He was beaten to death by the husband, who caught them in the act.

"That's why she signed the forms herself."

Grayson's expression darkened.

"I had an affair with a married woman and was beaten to death by the husband?" he thought incredulously.

Fuming, Grayson turned around and left. He refused to bother about Belle anymore.

After the surgery and getting an IV drip, Belle left the hospital against the doctor's advice.

It was true that she was gravely injured. But she had never cared even when she suffered worse injuries in the mountains.

She wasn't a pampered woman who'd overreact to things.

When Belle arrived home, she saw Grayson on the phone.

Seeing that Belle had returned, Grayson frowned. There was a sour look on his face.

He said gently over the phone, "Don't think about it too much. Listen to the doctor and rest well. I'll call you later."

Belle didn't have to ask. She knew that he was talking to June.

As soon as Grayson hung up, his expression immediately changed. His tone was so cold that he sounded like a different person.

"Why did you hit June today?"

Belle was upset. She was going to tell him to keep an eye on his woman so that she wouldn't bother her. But he accused Belle first.

"Why? What do you think? Because she deserved it!"

"You … She's an actress, and her face is her greatest asset. How can she film with a face like that?"

"What does that have to do with me? She needs her face to survive, but she didn't protect it.

"Instead, she ran up to me on purpose and asked for a beating. She deserved it!"

Grayson pursed his lips. He was furious.

"I thought you were just a little plain, but I never thought you'd be so rude! You don't deserve to be Mrs. Page!"

"Hah!" Belle was so pissed that she laughed.

"Old man, have you misunderstood something? Do you think I want to be Mrs. Page? I wish I could call off the marriage!

"Don't believe me? Come on, try doing it!"

Grayson said, "Do you think I would get engaged to you if it weren't for my grandfather?"

Belle sneered. "Do you think I would get engaged to you if it weren't for MY grandfather?"

The room suddenly fell silent.

They were both forced to get married. Neither of them liked each other.

"How can you be so bold after hitting someone in public?" Grayson was furious.

Belle refused to back down.

"And she isn't at fault for insulting me in public, is that it? If there's nothing wrong with insulting people, how about I curse your family?"

"You … You're impossible to reason with! I've never seen a woman as immature as you!"

"I've never seen a man as shameless as you, either. You're so old, but you still want to marry someone so young. How shameless!

"Also, you like June, don't you? Then tell Mr. Page Senior that you want to call off the marriage and marry her!

"You're so useless that you can't even marry the girl you like!"

"Shameless?" Grayson thought. "Useless? Me?"

Grayson roared, "Belle Walters!"

Belle shivered. This man was quite terrifying when he got angry.

"Why are you shouting? I'm not deaf."

Grayson's breaths were uneven as he stared at Belle with a dark expression.

A long while later, he spoke up. "You'd better stay away from June. Don't mess with her anymore!"

With that, he went upstairs to the study and slammed the door shut.

Fuming, Belle shouted up the stairs, "Who's messing with who now? You'd better tell June that if she dares mess with me again, I'll hit her a second time!"

When Belle had finished speaking, she scowled and went to the guest room. She slammed the door even louder than Grayson had.

After returning to the house, Ava asked, "Why did Xenia go crazy? Wasn't she fine not long ago?"Lena wiped her hands and handed the towel back to Ava. "Someone drugged her and induced hallucinations of her worst fears. She's been on the edge ever since. After all, she did commit all sorts of misdeeds." "Someone?""Belle Walters."Ava was shocked. "Why would Belle drug Xenia?"Ava and Lena had been moving from place to place, seeking a safe hideout ever since they picked up Xenia. They had only found a relatively safe place today, so Ava finally had the chance to inquire about the details.Lena shot her a look of disgust and proceeded to ignore her question.Ava dared not press further and changed the topic. "Now that Xenia's lost her mind, can we still get her to talk?"Lena continued to ignore her and went to scribble down a prescription. Meanwhile, Ginger, too, was grappling with confusion. She'd also offered Hunter money, only to be stunned into silence by the astronomical sum in his bank statement. Compared to him, she was practically penniless. The largest amount she'd ever held was a few million Gabriel had won in the lottery—a drop in the bucket compared to Hunter's wealth."Why do you think Mr. Sanders was so wealthy?" Belle pondered aloud, "While Hunter isn't as averse to exploring tombs as Benjamin, they share a similar disposition. Otherwise, with his expertise, he could easily be making a fortune.""The Sanders ancestors might not have been saints," Grayson conceded, "but perhaps Hunter's grandfather started a positive trend. Like Benjamin, he likely tried to shield Hunter from their legacy. A truly evil man couldn't have raised such a kind son."As Benjamin grew, he remained kind-hearted despite his timidity. And now, Hunter has grown into an upright, kind, and courageous young man. His talent for exploration makes him the pride of his lineage."Belle nodded and sighed. "Money is crucial for a comfortable life today. With what Hunter has, financial worries shouldn't trouble him. He'll be well provided for."Grayson pulled her into his arms and responded, "Don't fret. While Hunter may still be in school, he's mature for his age. He can take care of himself just fine."Belle leaned onto his s

Hunter crouched by the bed, methodically clearing away the books until a single floor tile lay exposed. Prying it open revealed a dark hole just big enough for one person. Grabbing a flashlight, he squeezed through the narrow opening and emerged into a moderately sized room of perhaps about 130 square feet. Wooden boxes, weathered with age and adorned with simple designs, filled the space.Hunter made a beeline for a particular box, brushing off the dust before prying it open. The wooden box was filled to the brim with notebooks. Hunter sat down on the floor, picked up one of the books, and started reading it.This hidden chamber and its contents were discovered by a young Hunter, seemingly guided by destiny. Hunter's father, Benjamin, had buried them, driven by a desire to safeguard their knowledge from Hunter's curious gaze. Fear had gripped Benjamin after learning about the Sanders family's history, the expertise that had seemingly drawn them toward a dangerous path. He

Nora let out a long sigh. "It's fine. Just keep it with you! I don't really need the money right away or anything. Besides, an old woman like me won't be spending much in town even if I tried."Hunter stopped Nora as she was about to leave and took a wad of money from his bag. "I have 20,000 dollars right here. It's far from the actual price, but you can keep it for now. I'll pay you the rest when I can."Nora was stunned. "Where did you get so much money?""It's the money I gathered from donations for the funeral, mostly from Ms. Belle and Mr. Grayson.""Oh, that makes sense. Here I was, wondering how you managed to get such a huge amount from donations. I can tell your friends are really kind-hearted people. You should treat them just as well as they treat you, okay? Study hard and make a name for yourself, and then you'll be able to properly repay their kindness.""Yeah, I know. Anyway, the gold nugget weighs slightly over 17 ounces. So, its worth is about 37,500 dollars. I'll pay y
