Chapter 2 No Morals

Author: Flora Hopkins
"Ah! Fire! Run!"

The café descended into chaos. Amidst the screams and coughs, the people inside scrambled to get outside.

June also ran out in panic. She had just made it to the entrance when a woman grabbed her.

Because of the frantic crowd, the woman's leg was trampled. It was broken, and she couldn't move. In her panic, she grabbed June as if she had grabbed onto a sliver of hope.

"Miss, please save my son. He's still inside. Please save him!"

June widened her eyes and slapped the woman's hand away.

Enduring the pain in her mouth, she said, "It's a huge fire! Do you want me to get myself killed? Get lost!"

June spat in disdain, then moved aside. She called Grayson, her voice pitiful. "Grayson, come here quick. I got hurt!"

Losing hope, the woman wailed as she lay on the ground. The people around her whispered among themselves.

"Who would dare go inside with such a huge fire burning? They'd die!"

"Exactly. There's probably no hope left for the child."

Belle was at the back of the crowd. She was about to leave, but she frowned when she heard what the woman said.

She rushed in the opposite direction of the crowd, squeezing into the café.

The crowd was stunned as they watched Belle dash into the fire.

"Is that girl crazy? She just ran inside a huge fire!"

"She must have a screw loose in her head!"

The crowd thought that Belle and the child were done for. But right at that moment, she dashed out of the café with the child in her arms.

A few holes were burned into her clothes, and her face was covered in soot. She looked dirty and messy.

But the child in her arms was safe.

Sobbing, the woman held the child tightly. When she finally collected herself, she tried to thank Belle. But Belle had already disappeared.

Belle hailed a cab to the hospital alone.

Her sole focus had been on protecting the child. A falling lamp had struck her back, and coupled with the burns, she must be seriously injured.

She couldn't treat her injuries by herself, so she could only go to the hospital.

As soon as she made it to the hospital, she unexpectedly bumped into Grayson and June.

June's eyes were red. She looked helpless and pitiful.

Grayson carefully protected her as if he were guarding a treasure. He kept comforting her in a gentle tone.

A group of doctors in white coats followed behind them. At a glance, one could tell that they were the leaders of the hospital.

With such a procession, the couple didn't look like they were there to get treated. Instead, they looked like higher-ups who came to inspect the hospital.

Belle pursed her lips. Ignoring her fiancé and June, she went straight to the outpatient department.

When the doctor saw the injury on her back, he was shocked.

"How did you get injured this badly?"

"I accidentally burned myself. Please apply ointment on the injuries."

The doctor's expression was grave. Belle had come to the hospital alone, even with injuries like this.

It was a stark contrast to the celebrity who just arrived. Her arrival had caused a stir among the hospital management team.

In comparison, Belle was alone with severe wounds on her body. She didn't even cry or complain about it.

This was probably the difference between a princess and a pauper.

The doctor sighed internally.

Belle was dressed plainly, so the doctor naturally thought she was from a poor family.

"I'm afraid you might need surgery. Where are your family members? Get someone to come over to sign the consent forms for you, then I can arrange for the surgery."

"I can sign it myself."

"That won't do. We need a family member's signature for surgeries."

Belle fell silent. She suddenly felt a little sad. Without her grandfather, she didn't even have anyone to sign the papers for her.

"I'm an orphan."

The doctor was stunned. "You don't have other family members?"

"I have a grandfather, but he's not here right now."

"Then … Do you have any family or friends here?"

"I have a fiancé."

When Belle finished talking, she remembered the scene she just saw.

She pouted, then said unhappily, "But he's dead now. His life is a mess, and he doesn't have morals.

"He had an affair with a married woman, and the woman's husband caught them in the act. He was beaten to death."

The doctor and the nurse were speechless. He had no choice but to let Belle sign the document herself.

Belle was sent to the operating room. Soon after, Grayson received news that she was also at the hospital.

He rushed over to ask about her.

"How is Belle Walters? How did she get hurt? Was it serious?"

After returning to the house, Ava asked, "Why did Xenia go crazy? Wasn't she fine not long ago?"Lena wiped her hands and handed the towel back to Ava. "Someone drugged her and induced hallucinations of her worst fears. She's been on the edge ever since. After all, she did commit all sorts of misdeeds." "Someone?""Belle Walters."Ava was shocked. "Why would Belle drug Xenia?"Ava and Lena had been moving from place to place, seeking a safe hideout ever since they picked up Xenia. They had only found a relatively safe place today, so Ava finally had the chance to inquire about the details.Lena shot her a look of disgust and proceeded to ignore her question.Ava dared not press further and changed the topic. "Now that Xenia's lost her mind, can we still get her to talk?"Lena continued to ignore her and went to scribble down a prescription. Meanwhile, Ginger, too, was grappling with confusion. She'd also offered Hunter money, only to be stunned into silence by the astronomical sum in his bank statement. Belle pondered aloud, "While Hunter isn't as averse to exploring tombs as Benjamin, they share a similar disposition. Otherwise, with his expertise, he could easily be making a fortune.""The Sanders ancestors might not have been saints," Grayson conceded, "but perhaps Hunter's grandfather started a positive trend. Like Benjamin, he likely tried to shield Hunter from their legacy. A truly evil man couldn't have raised such a kind son."As Benjamin grew, he remained kind-hearted despite his timidity. And now, Hunter has grown into an upright, kind, and courageous young man. His talent for exploration makes him the pride of his lineage."Belle nodded and sighed. "Money is crucial for a comfortable life today. With what Hunter has, financial worries shouldn't trouble him. He'll be well provided for."Grayson pulled her into his arms and responded, "Don't fret. While Hunter may still be in school, he's mature for his age. He can take care of himself just fine."Belle leaned onto his s

Hunter crouched by the bed, methodically clearing away the books until a single floor tile lay exposed. Prying it open revealed a dark hole just big enough for one person. Grabbing a flashlight, he squeezed through the narrow opening and emerged into a moderately sized room of perhaps about 130 square feet. Wooden boxes, weathered with age and adorned with simple designs, filled the space.Hunter made a beeline for a particular box, brushing off the dust before prying it open. The wooden box was filled to the brim with notebooks. Hunter sat down on the floor, picked up one of the books, and started reading it.This hidden chamber and its contents were discovered by a young Hunter, seemingly guided by destiny. Hunter's father, Benjamin, had buried them, driven by a desire to safeguard their knowledge from Hunter's curious gaze. Fear had gripped Benjamin after learning about the Sanders family's history, the expertise that had seemingly drawn them toward a dangerous path. He

Nora let out a long sigh. "It's fine. Just keep it with you! I don't really need the money right away or anything. Besides, an old woman like me won't be spending much in town even if I tried."Hunter stopped Nora as she was about to leave and took a wad of money from his bag. "I have 20,000 dollars right here. It's far from the actual price, but you can keep it for now. I'll pay you the rest when I can."Nora was stunned. "Where did you get so much money?""It's the money I gathered from donations for the funeral, mostly from Ms. Belle and Mr. Grayson.""Oh, that makes sense. Here I was, wondering how you managed to get such a huge amount from donations. I can tell your friends are really kind-hearted people. You should treat them just as well as they treat you, okay? Study hard and make a name for yourself, and then you'll be able to properly repay their kindness.""Yeah, I know. Anyway, the gold nugget weighs slightly over 17 ounces. So, its worth is about 37,500 dollars. I'll pay y
