Chapter 5 Troublesome Woman

The next day, Belle and Grayson registered their marriage.

Before heading to the City Hall, Grayson handed Belle a document.

"Read it. Sign the contract if you have no objections. When you're done, we'll get that marriage certificate."

Belle glanced at it. There were two large words printed on it: Marriage Contract.

They would be married for two years, and the marriage should be kept a secret. During their marriage, they should not interfere in each other's lives.

In that period, the husband would pay for all reasonable bills incurred by the wife.

The wife would please the husband's family and attend certain social events with the husband when necessary.

They would file a divorce after two years. The wife would have no part of the husband's property, which meant she would leave without receiving a penny.

If the wife refused to file a divorce after two years, the husband would have the right to send her to jail.

Belle didn't like the sound of that.

"Why am I the only one being constrained? What if you're the one who refuses to file a divorce later on?"

Grayson said with determination, "That's impossible."

"You can't guarantee that. You should add another term to be fair. If you refuse to file a divorce in two years, all your property will be mine."

Grayson glanced at Belle. She was small, but her appetite wasn't.

"She agreed to marry me just for the money, didn't she?" Grayson thought. "Hah!"

Still, he eventually agreed. It didn't matter, for he was sure he would divorce her in two years.

Belle continued reading. The last term read: "They must not engage in a relationship during their marriage."

It was even highlighted, which meant that this term was extremely important.

Belle didn't quite get it. "What does this mean?"

Grayson said, "We're getting married by agreement. This means that we're married by name only. So don't get any weird ideas about me. I won't touch you either."

Belle finally understood. Her face reddened as she rolled her eyes at Grayson.

"Don't worry. You're beneath me. You'd better keep your hands to yourself. If you dare get any ideas about me, I'll kill you!"

Grayson's expression darkened. "I will never touch you even if I die!"

"You'd better mean it!"

After signing the contract, they went to register their marriage. They ignored each other.

At the City Hall, the staff thought the pair had gone to the wrong department.

They didn't look like they were getting married. They seemed like they wanted to file a divorce instead.

After the deed was done, Grayson obeyed his grandfather's orders. He took Belle back to Page Residence.

When Finneas Page, Grayson's grandfather, saw the marriage certificate, he beamed.

Finneas liked Belle a lot, and he cared deeply about her.

"Now that you're married, you're also a part of the Page family. If anyone dares to bully you, just tell Gray. He'll stand up for you.

"If Gray bullies you, just tell me. You can always depend on me!"

Belle felt her heart warming up when she heard that. She didn't like Grayson, but Grayson's grandfather was quite decent.

"Got it. Thank you, Grandpa."

"Silly child, we're family now. There's no need to be so formal with me."

While Belle went to the yard to feed the fish, Grayson couldn't help asking, "Who exactly is she?"

Finneas narrowed his eyes and returned the question. "Didn't you figure anything out?"

Grayson didn't say anything. His answer was clear.

Finneas smiled, then looked tenderly at Belle's figure in the yard.

"She was protected very well."

Grayson was even more curious now. "Who's protecting her?"

Finneas didn't reply.

Grayson continued, "I've already married her, so there's no longer any need to hide anything from me."

Finneas shook his head.

"You married her, yes, but only for two years. If you promise never to divorce her, I'll tell you."

Grayson fell silent. Compared to his slight curiosity, his desire to file a divorce was stronger.

The woman was rebellious and very troublesome.

Finneas said, "The time hasn't come. We'll talk when you two have developed feelings for each other."

Finneas suddenly let out a long sigh, his expression turning grave.

"She looks lively and happy right now because she was well taken care of. She doesn't know anything yet. If she does, well, she won't be happy anymore.

"Belle is a pitiful child, much more so than anyone you've ever known. Don't bully her, Grayson. Be nice to her."

Grayson said, "How is she pitiful? What does she not know?"

Finneas simply sighed and shook his head. It was a sign that he shouldn't ask further.

Grayson fell silent.
