*Samson*

My throat tightened as I glared at Matilda, seeing her stare at me with large blue eyes like my fiancée’s. Looking at Matilda’s face, I couldn’t deny that she was pretty—more innocent than Maya, who was wild and stubborn.

“Sir, I don’t love Matilda,” I steadied my voice and explained. “If I had known she wasn’t Maya, I wouldn’t have touched her,” I added, seeing the disappointed look on Matilda’s face. I had slept with her the previous night, yet I didn’t want to consider how passionately I had made love to her. Mr. Roland shook his head and retorted, “Samson, you will not sleep with Matilda like that and get away with it. You ruined her innocence, so you will have to bear the responsibility for it. I will contact your father and cancel your wedding with Maya. You will marry Matilda, and that’s final.”

“What? Dad!” Maya gasped. Even I felt stunned. How could I marry Matilda when I didn’t know anything about her? I didn’t love her. And the fact was I had heard she was a dullard who wasn’t good at anything. For goodness’ sake, I was a CEO. This would damage my reputation if it got to the knowledge of my business partners and fans.

Calvin stood with a disappointed look. As much as he despised Matilda, she was his sister too. He just didn’t know how to react to the news either.

“Sir, with all due respect, you cannot force me to marry Matilda. I don’t love her. I cannot marry her,” I stated firmly. My arms tightened around Maya as she turned her head away from sobbing against my chest and looked at her father, who was helping Matilda to her feet after wrapping her in the bedsheet.

Mr. Roland replied adamantly, “Samson, this house has surveillance cameras. It’s either you marry Matilda, or else I will sue you to court for taking advantage of my daughter because of her clumsiness.”

“Sir, you cannot do that to me. I won’t accept marrying Matilda,” I still refused, glaring at Matilda, who met my gaze and lowered her head. She was beautiful, tall, and her naked body aroused me. But Mr. Roland ignored me.

He turned to Matilda, stretched his hand forward to help her stand, and said, “Come on, Matilda. Get up. Let’s go.”

I watched Matilda's legs trembling as her father’s hand held her and led her away.

My throat tightened as Maya pulled away from me and called after her father.

“Dad, you cannot force my fiancé to marry Matilda. Samson and I have had sex too. He cannot marry Matilda because of her mistake. She is the one at fault here. This is Samson’s guest room, yet Matilda sneaked in here to seduce him. I won’t accept that. Samson is my fiancé and you won’t cancel our wedding!” Maya screamed, sobbing and wanting her father to change his mind, but he didn’t spare her a glance. His hands held Matilda as he led her out of the room, the door shutting behind him.

“Babe, what are we going to do? You cannot marry Matilda. You cannot call off our wedding,” Maya sobbed as Calvin finally regained himself.

Calvin marched up to me and punched me in the face. His fist connected with my left chin.

“Calvin, are you insane? How dare you smack my fiancé?” Maya yelled at him, coming forward to stand protectively in front of me.

“This is for fụcking Matilda without considering how she feels. How dare you take advantage of her. Do you think we wouldn’t know? Take a look at Maya—how isn’t she different from Matilda? They look alike, but Matilda is innocent. Her hairstyle and Maya’s aren’t the same. They don’t smell the same. That’s enough for you to tell them apart. Even their voices are different. You are fụcking insane, man. I just checked the footage. You turned off the light. She tried to stop you, but you took advantage of her.”

My hand held my left chin as I peered at Calvin’s furious face, speechless. I recalled the previous night—Matilda had tried to stop me. She had said, “This is wrong.” But I mistook it to mean we shouldn’t have sex in her parents’ home.

“I misunderstood. I didn’t mean to touch her. I thought she was Maya. They are identical. Don’t blame me for sleeping with Matilda. You guys hid her. If you had allowed me to see her during the day, then I would have known they are different!” I retorted, furious that Calvin was blaming me. He was my friend, but now his eyes glared at me with hostility.

“Fụck off, man. I hate what you did to Matilda. She’s inexperienced, and yet you slept with her like that. You better get ready to make amends. You won’t get away with this.” Calvin retorted as he put his phone away and stepped out of the room, leaving Maya and me alone.

I hadn’t known that Calvin had pulled the CCTV video and watched my performance the previous night. Shame clung to me like a second skin.

“I’m sorry, babe.” I apologized to Maya as she continued sobbing, tears streaming down her cheeks uncontrollably. Even though she disliked Matilda, they were twins, and I couldn’t blame her for attacking her sister. She ought to have attacked me too.

“You shouldn’t accept to marry Matilda. I don’t think I can live without you,” Maya sobbed, and words caught in my throat.

Before I could respond, my phone’s loud ringing tone filled the air in the room, and I moved over to the shelf to pick it up.
