Chapter 9

*Samson*

“Samson, what the fụck did you do wrong?” Dad’s furious voice reverberated in my eardrums. My heart stilled as I knew that Mr. Roland had told him what happened.

“Dad, I didn’t know she wasn’t my fiancée.”

“And you slept with her in her father’s house. Don’t you have any shame? Have you seen the video? Get here quickly. Mr. Roland is threatening to sue you to court, and you know how much this will damage your reputation in the whole of Silvercrest City. Haven’t you thought of your reputation and our family’s honour?” Dad demanded, anger boiling in his tone.

“Dad, I’m sorry. I know I made a mistake, but I cannot leave Maya to marry her twin sister. I cannot do that. I don’t love Matilda.”

“Shut up. Just come home so we can discuss this. You won’t destroy my reputation and also the entire Finley Group. I give you thirty minutes to report here.”

The call ended, the sound echoing in the room.

Maya continued sobbing as she moved to sit on the bed. My eyes fell on the red bloodstain. I could not believe that I had broken her twin sister’s virginity. Guilt crashed down on me, making it hard for me to breathe.

“What did your father say?” Maya asked, raising her head to meet my gaze.

“You cannot marry Matilda. She cannot be your wife. I love you…” she sobbed uncontrollably, and I didn’t even know how to pacify her.

I met Maya during her internship at my company. It was love at first sight. Though our fathers were business partners and in the same social circles, I hadn’t met her personally before. We started dating the previous year, been on lots of vacations, until I popped the question and asked her to marry me.

The diamond ring I had used to propose to her was still nestled on her left middle finger. How could I have made such a bloody mistake? As much as I felt bad for breaking Matilda’s innocence, I didn’t feel any form of attraction towards her. The previous night I had assumed she was Maya. That was what made me develop interest and sleep with her.

I wasn’t a playboy. I wasn’t the type of man who slept around. I respected myself and kept myself away from public gossip.

My grandfather built Finley Group before it was passed down to my father, and now to me. How do I face them?

My younger brother, Chris Finley, was wrestling to take the CEO’s position. He was 26, a certified playboy, and I was sure he would use this opportunity to strike. Though Chris kept his relationships undercover.

If any news emerged about his relationships, the following day the news and blog pages that posted about him would be shut down. That prevented the bloggers from publishing about us. But I feared what my naked videos would do on the internet. I hadn’t seen the videos, but I could not allow my nudes to trend publicly. I had to rush back to find a way to sort this out.

It wasn’t entirely my fault. If Matilda hadn’t sneaked into this room and hid under my bedsheets, I wouldn’t have touched her or slept with her the previous night.

“Babe, what will you do now?” Maya asked me once more. Her large blue eyes met my brown ones.

Words ceased to escape my mouth, but I strode to meet her. My hands held her shoulders gently as she sat on the bed and peered at my face.

“I don’t know what to do. I feel so horrible that I cheated on you with your twin sister. I don’t want to be the one to divide your bond with her. But at the same time, this involves my family, your father’s threat, and the amount of damage it will do if it gets to public knowledge. I will try to sort it out. I cannot marry your sister. I don’t love her, and that’s final. It’s you I love, okay?” My thumb brushed against Maya’s chin as I raised her jaw to meet my gaze.

“Okay,” Maya replied, and I leaned forward to kiss her lips, but she tilted her head away.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her, and she rose from the bed. “You should sort out the issues first. I cannot allow you to touch me after you touched my sister. You have to brush your teeth and have your bath and wash her scent off you.”

Maya strode away, leaving me speechless. I could not believe she hated her twin that much.

Honestly, my heart had raced with guilt when I tried to kiss Maya just now. I felt like I was doing the wrong thing—that I shouldn’t kiss her. She was hurt, but that didn’t mean she would ask me to brush my mouth before I could kiss her again.

“Damn it.” My fist clenched as I rubbed my temples. Remembering that my father had given me thirty minutes to return home, I moved to the bathroom to shower. Then I stepped out and picked up my clothes to wear.

After I finished buttoning my white shirt and cufflinks, I fastened my belt over my black trousers, put on my shoes, and grabbed my phone to leave the Rolands’ estate.

The mansion was silent as a graveyard, despite the commotion that had occurred earlier today.

When I stepped out of the guest room, I glanced around the corridor, staring at the other locked doors. I marched away and stepped into the living room.

Mrs. Roland sat there on the black couch. She had changed out of her white dress and wore a brown dress that clung to her skin. Beside her, Maya sat sobbing and peered at me.

“Ma’am, I’m taking my leave now. I deeply apologize for my mistakes,” I said, bowing slightly to leave the house.
