FREYA

I went to work at the pack hospital. Lizzy was already waiting for me in my office.

Though Lizzy was a witch and not a werewolf, she was widely accepted by the seven packs as one of the best doctors.

“I saw Leo bring Caroline in. What happened? Are you okay?” she questioned worriedly.

I explained what happened, Lizzy’s eyes widening with each word I said.

Finally, when I was done, she shook her head. “Were you able to tell him about the baby?”

“No, and I don't think I will.”

The thought of telling Leo about our pup made my stomach tighten with dread. Who knew if he would ask me to get rid of the baby?

“Why?” Lizzy asked.

“It doesn't matter. I'm getting a divorce. I need to know if you'll take over the research into the drugs while I'm away from Blackclaw.”

Lizzy refused vehemently. “If you leave this pack, I'm going with you. Have you forgotten that we are more like sisters than friends?”

I nodded, my eyes burning with tears. I leaned in and hugged her hard.

Lizzy’s parents had given her to my parents just before they died. They never explained why, or how they knew their death was imminent, but my parents had taken her in, and not once had they ever made her feel that she wasn't family.

Lizzy and I went to work at the labs. I did my best to focus, but thoughts of Leo filled my mind.

Lizzy shook her head. “If you decide to leave, I'll stand by you, Freya. But I heard the council is sending its representatives in two weeks.”

My eyes narrowed. “There's no way, Leo would have told me.”

Lizzy’s lips turned down at the corners. “You mean the same Leo who didn't even tell you he was bringing his mistress into the pack?”

Her question was sarcastic, but it dug at me like barbs. “This is more important than Caroline. If Leo doesn't become Alpha, he could be forced out of the council. The other packs are scared of his power.”

“Who's going to force him? Only Alpha Derek could possibly stand against him, and the other packs detest Derek more than they hate Leo.”

Lizzy was right. Alpha Derek was a Lycan, and currently the strongest Alpha in the seven packs.

I looked away, abruptly standing, my heart heavy. I wished my wolf would wake up, but maybe it was already too late to save my marriage.

I had just three weeks left with Leo. After that, I would be free of him.

Deciding I was done with work for that evening, I went home. After making myself dinner, I undressed slowly, then showered.

I tied a towel around my hair and another around my breast as I stepped out of the bathroom.

My lips parted on a gasp as I saw Leo seated on my bed. His jaw tightened when I walked into the room.

I hurried to pull a robe on, my skin prickling wherever his eyes touched it. My body flushed from my chest to the tips of my ears as he kept staring, his eyes flashing.

His lips curled, his gaze sliding down to the gap in my robe and back up without a shred of apology.

Leo’s voice came out smooth as whiskey. “Why do you look so scandalized? Relax. I've seen all of it before.”

A burning ache lit between my legs at the low rumble of his voice. Heat rushed to my cheeks and burned my ears.

Grateful he had brought it up, I forced the words out even though my throat had gone dry. "Leo. I want a divorce.”

Leo's face didn't change. If anything, his eyes hardened with something close to amusement.

"Divorce." He repeated the word flatly, as though tasting how absurd it sounded. "Because of what happened with Caroline today?"

"This has nothing to do with Caroline."

He tilted his head. “Doesn't it? You assaulted a guest in our home and suddenly you want out of our marriage?”

"Our contract expires in thirty days, Leo. With or without your agreement, we'll be over." I held his gaze.

His lips tightened at the corners. He stood slowly, and I hated how my pulse spiked as he moved closer.

"You're not going anywhere. I gave your birth pack resources when they had nothing. Do you think you can simply walk away from that debt?"

My tongue wet my lip as I struggled to find words to reply. My heart raced fast. I had assumed that debt was wiped off after our wedding.

A slow, burning sensation started under my skin and refused to die down. "What exactly are you going to do about it?"

His eyes met mine, cold and direct. "The council's representatives arrive in two weeks. The Alpha King election follows shortly after. Until it's over, you will stand beside me and act like a devoted wife. After that, you can do whatever you like."

I wanted to refuse. The word was already forming, but I held my tongue. I would need to speak to my father's beta before making any hasty decisions.

I couldn't drag my pack into a war with Leo, one that we would never win. I kept my face carefully blank. “Let me think about it.”

Leo chuckled darkly. His fingers came up to stroke my jaw. “I know you'll agree, Sunshine. I wasn't giving you a choice.”

Despite his harsh words, heat burned a path from his fingers on my skin straight down to my stomach.

"One question, Leo. If I were pregnant, who would the child belong to after the divorce?" I kept my voice light, almost careless.

His hands fell away. "You haven't forgotten the contract, have you? There will be no children, Freya. I hope that question was a joke."

My heart turned to stone in my chest. He backed away as his phone rang. He answered, already moving towards the door, calling Caroline's name softly.

I watched him leave, my heart shredded to pieces. I held my stomach, deciding he would never know I was carrying our pup.

FREYAInstead of going downstairs to lunch, I stayed locked away in my room. Now that Leo knew where I was, he would try to do something drastic. I didn't believe his words to Uncle Joel were idle threats. But I needed to make a decision before I could face him. The next morning, I went to my office and tried to avoid everyone. Madame Claire, Derek and even Sera and Lizzy. But almost as soon as I arrived, I heard a knock on my door. “Who is that?” I called out, my heart lodged in my throat. “It is Ashford, Luna Freya.” Ashford's voice answered. Ashford? I hadn't even known he had come with Leo. What did he want? Had Leo sent him? I opened the door and walked back to my desk. Ashford came into my office and sat in front of my desk. “Is there something wrong?” I finally asked when he didn't say a word. “How are you related to Ms. Caroline?” Ashford questioned. What an absurd question. Wasn't it obvious that the woman hated my guts? “I'm not related to Caroline in any way.” I

FREYAHis jaw clenched. For a second, I thought he would drag me away with him. Instead, he smirked and backed away, turning to Madame Claire. “Please, give me a moment alone with my Luna.” Madame Claire gazed at me for a long moment, her eyes flicking between us before she nodded and backed away. “Come on. I'll have lunch prepared, Alpha Leo. Then we'll talk about the new hospital.” Oh, he was here to begin building a new hospital? Madame Claire had hinted that to me, but I didn't think it would be this soon or even that it would be handled personally by Leo.Immediately the hallway was cleared, Leo reached for me again, his fingertips barely grazing my wrists before I jerked back like he'd burned me. “Don’t touch me,” I snapped.I stepped closer now, because I wanted him to hear every word. “You looked me in the eye and said I was a worthless deceiver. And now you're here trying to take me back to Blackclaw? What for? Are you trying to ruin me all over again?” Leo gazed at me,

FREYAI’d never seen Derek this way before. His shorts was slung low on his hips, his eyes dark and relaxed. Sweat dotted his forehead, flattening his hair over his forehead. “I have a meeting with Quade early in the morning. I decided I'd spend the night.” He said. The dark promise in his voice caused my lungs to contract in panic. I couldn't seem to take in more air. His form hulked over me as he stepped closer. His muscular build seemed to tighten further. I let out a scoff of disbelief to distract myself from staring. “You weren't waiting around to hear Anwar return me safely to the pack house?” A low hum came from Derek, causing goosebumps to cover my skin. Why did he seem so different tonight? What was happening? “And if I was?” He asked, pressing further into me. “Derek, I've told you there no reason to worry so much.” I said, shaking away the entrancing scent of his skin filtering into my nose. “Isn't there? Did you know Leo has been search parties after you?” He aske

FREYATwo weeks had passed since I moved to Madame Claire's pack. I wished I could say life became perfect since I left Leo, but that was far from the truth. I was feeling a lot stronger. Madame Claire forced me to stay away from work for most of the week, but by the next week, I was already visiting the lab everyday. With each day that passed, I was less worried about Leo. He hadn't come to drag me back to Blackclaw, but even better, he hadn't called either. He wasn't causing any trouble. Even Lizzy had been shocked by it all, but even more so when Derek actually stuck to his words and showed up each day at the pack. “Shouldn't you go on a date with him?” Lizzy asked, seated on my bed. “With who?” I asked, pretending I didn't understand what she meant. “Derek, of course, who else?” She rolled her eyes, squinting up at me as though I was being ridiculous. “That's a bad idea and we both know it.” I muttered, ignoring the look she shot my way. Derek is a good man, and really, I

FREYA “Seems your father deceived you about a lot of things.” Derek said. The words stung a little, but it was true. Father had lied to me for years. “And Joel didn't tell you the truth still?” Derek asked. “No, he only said father asked him to leave the pack just before things became so bad. Father had already drained and drank away the family's resources. After mother's death, he wasn't keeping on top of the finances at all. I wasn't surprised when he pushed me towards marrying Leo.” I answered, feeling embarrassed that I hadn't suspected any of this. “And you believed him?” “Why wouldn't I? He was my father. He had no reason to lie…” I wasn't so sure anymore. “Your father and mine were good friends, Freya. My father wouldn't have stayed friends with someone who was careless with resources. Something must have caused your father to change so drastically.” “That makes sense. What if Uncle Joel was involved in some way?” I forced my mind away from the thought. He was

FREYAMy eyes flew open, and I sat up, breathing hard. “You're awake, Madam. I will let the doctor know immediately.” I looked up and saw a nurse getting up from the chair beside the door. It took me a moment to realize where I was, and I nod as I remembered fainting in the hallway. Evidently, someone must have found me. Why did I feel so dizzy suddenly? What happened? I hadn't had anything to eat, but still, was that enough for my blood pressure to drop so suddenly that I fainted?Suddenly, I sense someone watching me. I look up and see Derek leaning against the open door frame, his arms crossed. His hair was windswept, but something about his hair added a sexy touch to the already extremely handsome man. “It's good to see you're awake.” He said, pushed away from the doorframe and walked into the room. I felt very self-conscious, wondering what had brought him here. Last I spoke to him, he was away seeing his mother. I glanced up at him as he sat beside me on the sheets. “Yeah

FREYA By the time I left Joel’s office, my complexion was sickly pale. I thought I would get sick from the enormity of what Joel had just revealed. I couldn't believe Leo would do half the things Joel claimed he had evidence that Leo had done. I felt like my heart was being shredded into pie

FREYAI stopped Matt half way home and told him to drive me back to the jewelry store. LEOCaroline’s angry voice filled the room, but I could barely hear her. My attention was entirely on Freya. I knew I had been completely outmaneuvered. No, Freya hadn't shown up for the press conference. She'd known damned well that Caroline would lie. That was the reason she came; to expose Car

FREYAI didn't allow myself to spiral. Why bother trying to deduce what thoughts Leo had in that cold head of his? I would be wasting my time. Instead, I focused my attention on work. There was a lot to be done before I left in three days. First, I finished all my reports on the research into the
