LOGINFREYA
My stomach dropped to the floor. I bit my lip until I tasted blood, swallowing back my gasp of shock. My chest was squeezed hard from the inside. I waited breathlessly for Leo to push Caroline away, or at least chide her, but he didn't. I backed away from both of them, my fingers twisted. I was even less confident now that Leo would accept our child. Now, it made sense why Leo had forced me to sign that contract, all so he could wait three years for his first love. I went back to my bed, falling into a deep, tired sleep. I shivered suddenly in my dream, a soft voice from far away whispering to me. “Freya, be strong. I'll be with you soon. I'll protect our pup.” My wolf, Aurelia’s voice filled my ears. Her voice was like a breath of fresh air. I tried to connect with her but her voice became fainter and fainter. Soon, it was completely gone. I gasped awake, rubbing my fingers along my arm for a second as a cold draft from the door filled my office. I thought I heard footsteps hurrying away, but it was all silent. I shivered, feeling a long lost connection to my wolf. I tried to communicate with her, and as usual, Aurelia didn't answer, but I could feel her in the back of my mind. My heart soared with joy. This was the first time I could feel Aurelia without Leo present. What did this mean? Was Aurelia back? I touched my lower abdomen, and spoke softly to my baby. “We will be safe. I promise you, baby.” I went up to my room to sleep. I didn't allow myself to think too deeply about the empty sheets. Leo was probably down with Caroline anyway. Early the next morning, I went downstairs to make breakfast before heading to work. I stopped at the door, chuckling harshly. Caroline was already at the counter, frying a batch of pancakes. “Good morning, Freya. I'm making pancakes for Leo’s breakfast. Could you tell me how he likes them now?” My stomach flipped, and I felt a twinge of discomfort. “Caroline, isn't it improper for you to make my husband breakfast when I'm in the house?” Caroline dropped the spatula, her eyes glittering. “I didn't think you would mind. It's not a big deal, I usually made his breakfast before you became Luna.” I bit my lip. Caroline had become very sensitive after her marriage with Liam ended. I didn't mean to make her uncomfortable. “I'll take over from you. You can rest now.” I stepped forward to take the spatula from her. She rolled her eyes. “No, Freya. Your contract with Leo is almost over, isn't it?” I sneered, noting how the veneer of softness she wore fell off, revealing the vicious woman underneath. Her words made me want to laugh. “What do you mean?” “Leo should gradually adapt to my cooking skills. After all, you are about to get divorced, shouldn't he?” She said softly. I laughed gracefully, a hint of mockery in my voice. “Until the divorce papers are signed, Leo is still my husband and I am still your Luna. You will show me some respect.” I made my own breakfast, then poured myself coffee. Caroline and I turned to walk away at once bumping into each other. Her plate of pancakes smashed into the floor, along with my eggs and the coffee. The whole thing became a mess. Caroline swallowed, pressing her lips together. “How… how dare you. If you didn't want me to cook for your husband, you should have said so.” Her eyes turned dark and narrowed maliciously. Her fingers came up, clawing at my face as she lost her temper. She shoved me against the counter. My knee knocked against the marble counter, pain ripping through me. Blinded by pain, I instinctively pushed her away. If she knocked my stomach against the counter, I could lose my baby. Caroline shrieked with pain, crumpling to the floor like a lifeless doll. “Leo! Leo, please save me.” She screamed. Her squeal of pain brought Leo running into the room. His nostrils flared as he saw Caroline curled up on the floor. “Astrid!” Leo roared, lifting Caroline’s slumped body into his arms. Leo’s eyes fell on me as he stood. They raked over me, and when he saw that I was unharmed, his jaw ticked. “Freya, stay the hell away from Caroline. She's already suffered enough from that bastard Liam.” He bit off each word curtly. My heart sank. He never even bothered with asking questions, but had already named me the problem. I bit down hard on my tongue as he hurried to the door, ordering Astrid to bring the car to him. My wolf whimpered in the back of my mind. Leo had never been so angry at us before. My knees became weak and unreliable. I retched, bile rising up my throat. I ran to the bathroom and threw up harshly. My morning sickness was becoming worse as each day passed. I forced myself to my feet, washing my face at the sink. Leo had disappeared to the hospital without even caring to ask how I was. Still, the memory of his heated eyes raking over my skin earlier caused a shiver to race down my back. Without warning, my heart slammed against my chest. My pulse raced faster as I heard Caroline's voice clearly in my head. She was questioning Leo harshly. “Leo, you promised that you would come back to me whenever I came back, are you in love with Freya now?” My skin tingled all over, goosebumps raised on my skin. What the hell was happening? The back of my neck became taut as I waited for Leo’s answer. Aurelia was whimpering in pain, begging me to go find our mate. Only then did I realize she had opened a mind link between Leo and I. I held the edge of the sink, my hands shaking as I waited. Leo didn't answer immediately. The silence became hard to bear. In the back of my mind, Aurelia made a sound I had never heard from her before. It was a raw, broken scream of pain like a wolf who had walked into a trap. Mate. She breathed. Our mate. "Leo." I heard Caroline's voice again, softer this time, coaxing Leo to answer. I heard him exhale, and the sound crushed Aurelia and me. That single sigh of conflict made my heart rate double. I was suddenly dizzy. Aurelia shuddered, and her pain radiated through me like a second heartbeat. My knees buckled under me. Close it. I told her desperately. Please, Aurelia, close the mind link. She refused, whining and straining toward him even now. I shuddered as Leo’s voice answered Caroline. “I'll always take care of you, Caroline. Freya has nothing to do with all this.” Feeling sick to the stomach, I smiled bitterly. So that was how he felt about us? I took the initiative to close the link despite Aurelia’s protest. Leo didn't love me at all. My heartbeat slowed, and a firm resolution came to my mind. I couldn't pretend nor deny that I loved Leo, but I would never allow him to bully me. Leo was in love with Caroline, there was no need to prevent him from being with her. If he didn't want me, then a divorce was the only option.FREYAInstead of going downstairs to lunch, I stayed locked away in my room. Now that Leo knew where I was, he would try to do something drastic. I didn't believe his words to Uncle Joel were idle threats. But I needed to make a decision before I could face him. The next morning, I went to my office and tried to avoid everyone. Madame Claire, Derek and even Sera and Lizzy. But almost as soon as I arrived, I heard a knock on my door. “Who is that?” I called out, my heart lodged in my throat. “It is Ashford, Luna Freya.” Ashford's voice answered. Ashford? I hadn't even known he had come with Leo. What did he want? Had Leo sent him? I opened the door and walked back to my desk. Ashford came into my office and sat in front of my desk. “Is there something wrong?” I finally asked when he didn't say a word. “How are you related to Ms. Caroline?” Ashford questioned. What an absurd question. Wasn't it obvious that the woman hated my guts? “I'm not related to Caroline in any way.” I
FREYAHis jaw clenched. For a second, I thought he would drag me away with him. Instead, he smirked and backed away, turning to Madame Claire. “Please, give me a moment alone with my Luna.” Madame Claire gazed at me for a long moment, her eyes flicking between us before she nodded and backed away. “Come on. I'll have lunch prepared, Alpha Leo. Then we'll talk about the new hospital.” Oh, he was here to begin building a new hospital? Madame Claire had hinted that to me, but I didn't think it would be this soon or even that it would be handled personally by Leo.Immediately the hallway was cleared, Leo reached for me again, his fingertips barely grazing my wrists before I jerked back like he'd burned me. “Don’t touch me,” I snapped.I stepped closer now, because I wanted him to hear every word. “You looked me in the eye and said I was a worthless deceiver. And now you're here trying to take me back to Blackclaw? What for? Are you trying to ruin me all over again?” Leo gazed at me,
FREYAI’d never seen Derek this way before. His shorts was slung low on his hips, his eyes dark and relaxed. Sweat dotted his forehead, flattening his hair over his forehead. “I have a meeting with Quade early in the morning. I decided I'd spend the night.” He said. The dark promise in his voice caused my lungs to contract in panic. I couldn't seem to take in more air. His form hulked over me as he stepped closer. His muscular build seemed to tighten further. I let out a scoff of disbelief to distract myself from staring. “You weren't waiting around to hear Anwar return me safely to the pack house?” A low hum came from Derek, causing goosebumps to cover my skin. Why did he seem so different tonight? What was happening? “And if I was?” He asked, pressing further into me. “Derek, I've told you there no reason to worry so much.” I said, shaking away the entrancing scent of his skin filtering into my nose. “Isn't there? Did you know Leo has been search parties after you?” He aske
FREYATwo weeks had passed since I moved to Madame Claire's pack. I wished I could say life became perfect since I left Leo, but that was far from the truth. I was feeling a lot stronger. Madame Claire forced me to stay away from work for most of the week, but by the next week, I was already visiting the lab everyday. With each day that passed, I was less worried about Leo. He hadn't come to drag me back to Blackclaw, but even better, he hadn't called either. He wasn't causing any trouble. Even Lizzy had been shocked by it all, but even more so when Derek actually stuck to his words and showed up each day at the pack. “Shouldn't you go on a date with him?” Lizzy asked, seated on my bed. “With who?” I asked, pretending I didn't understand what she meant. “Derek, of course, who else?” She rolled her eyes, squinting up at me as though I was being ridiculous. “That's a bad idea and we both know it.” I muttered, ignoring the look she shot my way. Derek is a good man, and really, I
FREYA “Seems your father deceived you about a lot of things.” Derek said. The words stung a little, but it was true. Father had lied to me for years. “And Joel didn't tell you the truth still?” Derek asked. “No, he only said father asked him to leave the pack just before things became so bad. Father had already drained and drank away the family's resources. After mother's death, he wasn't keeping on top of the finances at all. I wasn't surprised when he pushed me towards marrying Leo.” I answered, feeling embarrassed that I hadn't suspected any of this. “And you believed him?” “Why wouldn't I? He was my father. He had no reason to lie…” I wasn't so sure anymore. “Your father and mine were good friends, Freya. My father wouldn't have stayed friends with someone who was careless with resources. Something must have caused your father to change so drastically.” “That makes sense. What if Uncle Joel was involved in some way?” I forced my mind away from the thought. He was
FREYAMy eyes flew open, and I sat up, breathing hard. “You're awake, Madam. I will let the doctor know immediately.” I looked up and saw a nurse getting up from the chair beside the door. It took me a moment to realize where I was, and I nod as I remembered fainting in the hallway. Evidently, someone must have found me. Why did I feel so dizzy suddenly? What happened? I hadn't had anything to eat, but still, was that enough for my blood pressure to drop so suddenly that I fainted?Suddenly, I sense someone watching me. I look up and see Derek leaning against the open door frame, his arms crossed. His hair was windswept, but something about his hair added a sexy touch to the already extremely handsome man. “It's good to see you're awake.” He said, pushed away from the doorframe and walked into the room. I felt very self-conscious, wondering what had brought him here. Last I spoke to him, he was away seeing his mother. I glanced up at him as he sat beside me on the sheets. “Yeah
FREYA I didn't expect it to hurt quite so much. Leo had just gone ahead to give her my ring? I didn't even wait for her to finish speaking before I replied. “No, not at all.”I tried to close the door but she placed her leg in the gap. She turned the ring towards my face, as though I hadn't seen
FREYAYet, for the first time ever, I could have thanked her for showing up at exactly the best moment. She stopped beside us, fixing her attention on Leo as though the rest of the didn't exist. “Alpha Leo? Did you forgot to invite me to your coronation?” Leo pulled his arms from around my waist.
FREYA Leo leveled me with a cold look after his absurd request. I glared at him, but he didn't budge as the car began to move. Pieces of the divorce agreement fluttered to the ground around us, mocking the effort I’d exerted. I lifted my eyes to meet his, angry beyond words. “I have no wish to b
LEOI fisted my hands in frustration as I marched up to Freya and the older man, Joel. “Step away from her.” I seethed. My fury burned so close to the surface that I was almost losing my cool. Freya wiped her eyes and pulled away from Joel. I saw her attitude change, her shoulders straightened an
