Mira’s P.O.V.

The white feather lay between us like a silent ultimatum.

It didn’t scream the way the black one did. It didn’t have to. Black was death. White was worse.

Because white meant choice. And choices… could rot you from the inside out.

Luca still held it in his hand, staring at it with that unreadable mask he wore when he didn’t want me to know how deep the knife went. His thumb brushed over the vane, slow, almost absentminded, as though he could feel Caroline’s fingerprints in the barbs.

“How?” I asked, my voice low. “How did it get in here? This place is...”

“Impenetrable,” Luca finished, his tone flat. “Or it should be.”

Eliza appeared in the doorway then, her gun already drawn, eyes scanning the room before locking on the feather in Luca’s hand. She didn’t speak right away. That silence told me she knew exactly what it meant.

“You told me no one knew about this location,” she said finally.

“They didn’t.”

“Then you have a leak.”

The words hung in the air, thick a

Mira's P.O.V The night after Luca left with that man felt like it stretched into something endless. I didn’t bother going back to my room right away. Instead, I stayed halfway down the staircase, the house dark except for the dim light spilling from the hall lamp. The guards shifted positions but never looked at me directly. It was as if they had been told... no, instructed... that I wasn’t to be engaged unless necessary. Their silence made the air heavier. I didn’t know how long I stayed like that, my fingers lightly curled around the banister, my other hand resting on the curve of my stomach. Every tick of the clock seemed too loud, too sharp, breaking the stillness in ways that made me flinch. The baby moved again, slower this time, like she had drifted into a restless half-sleep. I stroked the side of my belly. “You and me, little one,” I murmured, “we just have to make it through tonight.” But in the quiet, those words sounded too much like a prayer. I tried lying down, b

Mira’s P.O.V. The note lay on the nightstand like it was breathing. Stay inside tomorrow. No matter what you hear. It was Luca’s handwriting... steady, deliberate... but there was something in the way the ink cut across the paper that told me this wasn’t a request. It was an order. My palm smoothed over the slight curve of my belly. Well not so slight anymore. Six months and two weeks. I could feel her more these days... the tiny kicks, the faint rolls, the way she seemed to shift when I was restless, like she already knew I was thinking too much. “I guess you’re part of the ‘stay inside’ rule too, huh?” I whispered. She kicked once. Not hard, but enough to make me smile despite the heaviness in my chest. The smile didn’t last. I got up, folded the note, and slipped it into the drawer. I’d learned by now that nothing Luca left in plain sight was ever harmless. Downstairs, the new guards were already stationed by the front door. They looked the same as yesterday... pressed su

Mira’s POV The sound of rain tapping softly against the glass woke me. It wasn’t loud... just a faint rhythm, like the house was breathing. My eyes felt heavy, but my body was wrapped in warmth, the kind that made you want to stay still forever. Luca’s arm was draped across my waist, his breath slow and steady against the back of my neck. The scent of him... clean, faintly woody... lingered in the air, pulling me back to the memory of last night. I shut my eyes again, replaying every detail. The way his voice had dropped when he told me I wasn’t alone. The way his hands had trembled, just barely, when he touched my face like I was something fragile. I’d seen him angry, seen him cold, seen him guarded... but last night, he had been something else. I didn’t want to move. Didn’t want to break whatever fragile peace had settled over us. But then I remembered... peace never lasted in this house. Slowly, I shifted, careful not to wake him. I needed water, maybe even coffee, somethin

  • Pregnant By The Billionaire   Chapter Thirty Three

Mira’s P.O.V The rain hadn’t stopped since dawn. It wasn’t heavy, just a steady curtain of drizzle tapping against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the study. The world outside looked blurred, as if someone had taken a wet brush to a painting and smeared the edges. The air smelled faintly of cedar from the crackling fireplace, and somewhere in the house, I could hear the faint hum of the generator. Luca was at his desk, head bent over a file, sleeves rolled up to his forearms. His pen moved in short, precise strokes, pausing every now and then when his phone buzzed. I’d been watching him for the past five minutes from the couch, pretending to scroll through my tablet, but really… I was memorizing every line of his face. It was dangerous, this habit of mine. Not the watching but the way my chest warmed every time his eyes softened when they met mine. It made me forget that I was supposed to be careful. That I was keeping secrets. “Why are you staring?” he asked suddenly, wit

Mira’s P.O.V. The feather on the monitor didn’t move. It just lay there, perfectly still, as though it had been placed by an invisible hand that knew exactly where the camera’s gaze would fall. My skin prickled. Not because of what I was seeing... but because of what I couldn’t see. “She’s in the building,” I whispered. Luca didn’t answer. He was already moving toward the door, his hand curling around the gun at his side. The motion was controlled, methodical... like a predator deciding whether to strike. “Don’t open it,” I said quickly. His eyes flicked to me. They weren’t calm eyes anymore; they were the color of a storm. “If she’s still here, I’m not giving her a head start.” Eliza’s voice crackled through the intercom from the penthouse’s private comm line. “Hallway’s clear on my end. But that feather wasn’t there five minutes ago. Someone had to pass the west corner to place it.” “Then she’s still inside,” Luca said. I could hear his unspoken thought or... she has someo
