Elora

The morning sun crept through the slits in the blinds, painting golden stripes across the room and landing directly on my face.

“Just go away for a bit, dear sun!” I groaned, burying my head under the pillow, but it was no use.

The light was persistent, warm, and loud in its own silent way. My eyes fluttered open, dry and irritated. The brightness stung, and for a moment, I was suspended between dream and reality, until the memories of the previous night crashed into me like a wave.

"Holy Heavens," I muttered, jolting upright.

Work.

I spun around to check the time on my phone and let out a louder, more panicked curse. Gemma had kept me up till nearly two AM. We’d binged snacks, laughed about everything and nothing, watched a couple of trashy rom-coms, and dissected every detail of what happened between me and the mystery man minus the identity, of course.

She didn’t leave until Big Joe, her immediate elder brother, came knocking. We’d both fallen asleep halfway through the t

ROWENThe meeting had ended exactly how I wanted. I walked out of the conference room in my Milan-tailored charcoal suit, my steps steady as the investors followed behind, still wearing the exhausted, nervous expressions of men who had just handed over something valuable and weren’t sure if they’d made a deal with the devil.Because they had."Mr. Grayson, we’ll await your legal team’s schedule to finalize the property transition," the older of the three men said, wiping sweat from his brow even though the room had been chilled to a polite sixteen degrees.I stopped, turned slightly. “My legal team will reach out before morning. Expect the transfer to be complete within the next seventy-two hours.”They nodded, eager, almost too eager. Greed does that to men. Makes them blind to the wolves.I didn’t shake hands. I never did after a sealed deal.Outside the building, James was waiting by the Bentley, already holding the door open. I got in, the faint scent of the leather and the cust

Elora's POV Steam still clung to the air as I stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped tightly around my damp skin. The new scent of vanilla and citrus from the soap Rowen had picked out clung to me, soft and oddly comforting. My feet padded quietly over the tiles, heart still racing from everything that had happened that morning. The bed was half-covered in dress boxes and tissue paper. Shoes, bags, designer perfumes, and jewelry that were all mine. Every tag was intact, every brand name one I’d only ever whispered in envy while scrolling social media. It all felt like a dream I hadn’t earned. I dropped the towel onto the bed and slipped into my robe, eyes wide as I picked up a pair of red Louboutins."What the hell…?" I whispered, stunned. My fingers brushed over the fine leather, still trying to accept that these weren’t just props in someone else’s fantasy. This was mine. Somehow.I sat down heavily, exhaling. Everything felt so surreal. Yesterday I was just Elora, underpa

Rowen's POVAfter the navy blue Camry left with Elora in it, I eased into the back seat of my black Mercedes, the driver was already at the wheel. James got after me. The driver turned on the ignition and the engine roared to life and we drove off.The city lights blurred past as I leaned into the leather seat of the car. James sat in the passenger seat up front, focused, his hands typing away quickly on his tablet."Any updates from the firm?” I asked him, flipping open the custom leather portfolio on my lap.Without missing a beat, he replied, "Numbers are stable. The merger in Houston is progressing. But there's been a bit of tension in the marketing division since the announcement of the restructuring. Ethan hasn’t followed through with his team’s internal audit."What else would be expected of his lazy ass. I scoffed.I stared ahead, jaw tight. "And what's with the family dinner?"James paused briefly. "Intel confirms that Charles went to the Chairman yesterday. No one knows wha

ELORA“Yes, sir,” the woman smiled, eyes lighting up.I sat in front of the mirror and watched him sit and cross his legs over, watching the hairdresser closely. What manner of man was he? By the time they were done, I barely recognized myself in the mirror. My black hair parted on the left, with a soft, elegant wave cascading over one eye, ending in thick curls just below my shoulders. My lips were glossed a rich nude, lashes dark and long.Rowen stepped behind me and looked at my reflection. “Now you look like someone they won’t dare underestimate.”I felt it too. The dress. The hair. The quiet confidence he wore like cologne, it was bleeding into me.“We have a lunch date to catch up on,” he said, checking his watch. “Time to go.”I remembered the boutique bags and boxes. “How are we supposed to take all those boxes to a date?”“We’re not.” He gestured to the man in a black suit from earlier standing by the door. “James will have everything delivered to your apartment.”“Right…”

ELORAThe sunlight streamed in softly into the room. I used the soft pillow to cover my face from the intruding light. My head felt heavy and all I wanted was to sleep in.“I didn’t say you could sleep in this long.” I immediately threw the pillow off my face and sat upright. Seated across from me was Rowen, fully dressed in a gray suit that complemented his gray blue eyes and sat perfectly into his broad shoulders. He was holding a cup of coffee and drinking from it.“I’m sorry, I didn't mean to…”“Lesson number one, don’t apologize unnecessarily. Do what pleases you and be unapologetic about it.” Rowen cut me off.“Okay. I’ll head to the bathroom now.” I replied while trying my best to avoid eye contact with him.I didn’t spend too long inside the bathroom. I washed up and wrapped myself in a bathrobe and stepped out. Damn it, I have no clothes to wear. “Come on out here, if you are done bathing.” Rowen called out. I don’t think he understands what he is asking of me.“Elora,” R
