Ciara’s POV

I had walked the same hospital corridor so many times that I was beginning to recognise the tiny imperfections in the marble floor.

My phone remained clutched in my hand, the screen lighting up every few minutes because apparently I had developed the ridiculous habit of checking whether Dax had somehow called without my phone ringing.

He had not. No message, missed call or nothing from the man who usually found a reason to contact me even when he had only been away for an hour.

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 274: I’m Not Leaving You

Inara’s POVI watched Ciara push a piece of egg around her plate for what had to be the tenth time, and something inside my chest tightened painfully. She had not taken a proper bite in almost fifteen minutes. The food was already going cold, but she kept moving it from one side of the plate to the other as though pretending to eat might somehow fool me. Every few minutes, her other hand reached for the phone beside her without her even seeming to notice. She would wake the screen, stare at it for two or three seconds, then put it back down when there was still nothing there. No message, missed call and no Dax.Again.My sadness lasted approximately another thirty seconds before anger swallowed it whole.Dax.Dax fucking Blackthorne. What was wrong with men?Seriously, was there some secret meeting they attended where they were taught how to love a woman until she finally trusted them, only to wake up one morning and decide behaving like emotionally constipated idiots was a brilliant

He had not. No message, missed call or nothing from the man who usually found a reason to contact me even when he had only been away for an hour.Something was wrong.I could feel it.The past three days had almost felt normal, or at least as normal as my life could possibly become these days. Mom had woken up, and seeing her eyes open had removed a weight from my chest that I had been carrying since she collapsed. She was still weak, but she could talk, eat small meals and sit up with help. The doctors were pleased enough with her improvement that her discharge had been scheduled for tomorrow. She had not tried to tell me anything else.I d

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 272: Veilborn

Dax’s POVPowerful, ancient bloodlines don't just appear, especially ones capable of responding to primordial Blackthorne essence as though they had been waiting for it. There was always an origin somewhere, a parent, an ancestor, a curse, a forgotten branch buried deep enough that generations passed without understanding what they carried. Yet every time I tried to trace Ciara’s situation back to something that made sense, I hit the same wall. Her mother was human. The real Mr. Dagon had been human too, at least according to every record that existed before someone stole his identity and his life. So where the hell had something like this come from?My wolf shifted uneasily inside me before muttering, "Unless someone made sure nobody could see it."My jaw tightened because I had already thought of that, and I hated the possibility more than anything else. Hiding a weak supernatural trace was one thing. Hiding something powerful enough to sleep beneath human blood for decades witho

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 271: What's Her Identity?

Dax’s POVThe underground emergency laboratory had existed beneath the estate for years, but after Ayla arrived, it no longer looked like anything I remembered. Two days. That was all it had taken her to turn a perfectly organised medical room into something between an ancient research chamber and the aftermath of an explosion. Half the equipment she brought from Shadowfen did not belong anywhere near human technology, yet she had somehow connected all of it together. Thin crystal tubes ran between machines meant for blood analysis, several rune-covered stones floated above one of the examination tables and sheets of handwritten calculations covered almost every free surface. There were bottles containing liquids I had already decided never to ask about, pieces of old manuscripts lying open beneath protective glass and, for reasons known only to Ayla, a severed claw suspended inside a silver cylinder near the wall.I stood near the entrance with my arms crossed, watching my sister m

Ciara’s POVDax turned his head and gave her a warning look, but she ignored him and started towards me anyway. He immediately moved another half-step in front of me, and Ayla stopped, staring at him with genuine offence before placing one hand dramatically over her chest.“Seriously? What do you think I’m going to do? Bite her?”“You have done worse for less.”“That was research.”Dax’s expression suggested that was not the point.I folded my arms. “Why are you suddenly here?”“Can’t a loving sister visit family?”“No.”Her eyebrows rose.“You barely tolerate normal people,” I continued. “You travelled from Shadowfen before sunrise carrying a bag that looks like it contains either surgical equipment or someone’s organs, and Dax is acting like I need protection from you. Forgive me if I’m slightly suspicious.”Ayla glanced down at her bag thoughtfully. “There are no organs in here.”Dax looked at her and ahe hesitated.“Fresh ones.”I stared at her. Before I could decide whether I wan

  • Pregnant For My Father-in-Law   Chapter 269: The Morning After

Ciara’s POVI woke up slowly, my head heavy and my body strangely warm beneath the blanket. For a few seconds, I simply stared at the ceiling without moving, trying to understand why I felt as though I had slept for an entire day. The room was quiet, the lights dimmed low, and when I turned my head towards the narrow window built high into the wall, the faint bluish darkness outside told me dawn was not far away.I blinked several times and pushed myself upright.Strangely, I felt refreshed. There was no headache, no weakness and barely any soreness, which made absolutely no sense considering what Dax and I had done before I fell asleep. The memories returned in messy flashes, and heat immediately climbed into my face. Me ordering him around. Dax actually obeying me. Purple light. His ridiculous face whenever I pushed him past whatever patience he thought he had. After that, things became hazier, and the last clear memory I had was lying exhausted against him while sleep dragged me un
