4. Running away

SERENA

I didn’t know for how long I sat in the pack's healer's place after she revealed that I was pregnant.

It felt as if my whole world was falling apart right in front of me and there was nothing I could do about it.

“You are pregnant Serena. You are two weeks pregnant.”

The word kept ringing in my ear. It felt unreal but then again, it was real.

I placed my palm on my stomach trying to feel the seed growing inside of me. I was pregnant and not just for anyone but for my stepbrother.

I wanted to scream but I couldn’t do it. Before I left the pack healer's place, I folded and hid the paper containing my pregnancy. No one could find out about this or my life could end.

I sneakily entered the house through the back door, hoping for no one to see me so I could go into my room and avoid coming across my mother.

Once I entered the house through the back door, I walked on my tippy toes to avoid making sounds with my feet.

“Two more steps and you are safe Serena,” I said to myself mentally.

“Just two more steps.”

I took the first step, the second step, and just as I thought I had managed to escape, I came across my stepsister and I felt my stomach sink.

“Oh my, oh my,” Amelia said with her signature smile that never meant good.

“I’ve been looking for you and here you are, coming into the house like a thief.” The smile on her face was replaced with a glare.

She quirk her eyebrows. “Where are you coming from?”

I felt a pile of lump forms in my throat.

“Are you suddenly deaf? Answer the question. Where are you coming from?” She snapped.

“I…” I swallowed the lump that formed in my throat.

“Did you suddenly lose your voice? Where…” she walked towards me, every step she took only made the rate at which my heart beat increased.

“… you coming from?” She questioned again, now standing too close to me, making me very uncomfortable.

“I…”

“You suddenly forgot how to speak? There’s something wrong, isn’t it? I mean you were sneaking into the house so tell me what it is before I find out!” She said through her teeth.

Why was she here? Why did she decide to come home today of all days? It has been hard dealing with her mom and brother and now I have to face her.

“Answer me!” She snapped, placing both palms on my arms respectively and shaking me.

“I…” I trailed off when the paper I had on me fell off.

My eyes widened in shock. I felt my heart sink and my stomach churn.

“What is this?” Amelia asked.

I decided to get the paper but she beat me to it as she reached it before me.

She glared at me. “If you are planning something stupid then you’ve been caught.”

“Please don’t,” I pleaded as tears formed in my eyes.

“Please don’t. I…”

“Shush!” She chided.

She proceeded to unfold the paper. Every second that passed as she unfolded the paper made my heart drum faster in my chest. My head was banging hard. I felt faint as tears threatened to come out.

“Oh my goodness!” She said in disbelief and at that moment, all I wanted was for the ground to open up and swallow me.

Why does it have to be her who found out first? Just why.

“The slut is pregnant. The slut is fifteen days pregnant!” She had a devious grin on her face as she stared at me.

“Considering the date, it’s evident it’s not for my husband. So tell me, who did you fuck? Someone as low as you or even lower?” She questioned and I took a step back.

All I wanted to do was leave her presence.

“I knew it. You are a pretender. You claim to act like a saint but you are nothing but a town whore. Do you even know the father of this baby?” She gasped.

“This child is a bastard just like you! How many men did you sleep with? Oh, I cannot wait for my mother to know about this. You are a shame.” she let out a sarcastic laugh.

“You are a disgrace to the entire pack and I will make sure you are publicly disgraced. I will inform my brother and the pack members about your shame on us.” She stated firmly.

“Please, Amelia. This…I… please don’t…” I pleaded.

No one can find out about my pregnancy. Just how would they react when they found out I had slept with my stepbrother and in me his seed was growing?

“Are you seriously begging me? You are a disgrace and a shame just like your dead mother! You deserve to die just like her!” She chided.

Tears streamed down my cheek. “I will do…”

“Don’t stress it.” She cuts me off.

“I have hated you from the moment you stepped your feet into this place and now that I’ve gotten something to use and finally disgraced you, I won’t stop. Tomorrow morning, you have a lot of explaining to do.”

With that said she walked away, leaving no room for me to plead with her. I suddenly found it hard to breathe.

It was too much for me to handle. The past weeks have been torture and kept getting worse.

My head banged hard, my heart raced fast, the knots in my stomach tightened, and my legs failed me. When I managed to enter my room, all I did was cry.

I didn’t know for how long I cried but I cried until there were no more tears.

“You cannot stay here anymore Serena,” my wolf Stella said to me.

“It would only get worse if you stay.” She said.

She’s right. I cannot wait for the day to come. I had to leave. I can no longer stay here. I looked out through the window. It was still midnight but in no time, the day would become bright and I could not afford to stay here anymore.

I packed just a few things that I needed and I sneaked out of the house, making sure that no one saw me.

I ran away as soon as I had escaped from the house, never turning to look back.
