Wella's POV
“Ava is back, but you made Wella your Luna. What now?”
“It won’t be a problem. Wella knows her place.”
“She was not the one I was worried about...”
That was the conversation between my dear husband and his beta. He asked me to pick him up at his club, only for me to hear this before I could even push open the door. I ran like the coward I was, and he never asked me why I didn’t show up that night.
Just like that, Alexander single-sidedly ended our three-year-long of a marriage.
Alexander loved Ava. Everybody knew that. He was the Alpha’s heir and she the beta’s daughter. They grew up together knowing they were to be married whether she was his fated or not.
Literally.
Alexander found out that I was his fated mate, and he rejected me on that very night. He wanted Ava for himself, and he never lied about that.
Who was I, an orphan adopted and raised by an omega, to expect anything different?
The only reason why he even knew me, was because my adopted mother worked in the Alpha’s house. So, technically I also grew up with him and Ava, but we weren’t living in the same world.
I accepted his rejection, prepared the Alpha’s house for the long dued wedding for him and his beloved, and life was going to go on peacefully like that. I would haved lived on as if I was never mated to him, and waited for him to take over the Alpha’s title and appoint me a mate.
I CAN choose to serve as a maid in the Alpha House, but that’s to be a virgin for life. It was a great honor for Omegas, giving yourself to the Alpha. And some of them do, according to rumors.
But I wanted a mate. I knew that all along. Mom always mumbled to me about how much she regreted choosing to serve, about how she wanted a baby of her own. That was a big reason why she adopted me.
That wasn’t why I wanted a mate though. Not for a baby. I wanted a man for myself, a mate who would love me, who I could love, who would share their life with me and along with the joy and sorrow and everything life has to offer.
I wanted to live, even just as an Omega. Even if I was meant to not be wanted, and can only be seleted by the most unwanted when I turned old and passed the boom of my best age, I would still want a chance at that.
At the sweet taste of love.
I would have, if the “incident” three years ago didn’t happen.
But it did.
Alexander lost his legs, Ava left the pack, and I became his Luna.
Mother never wanted that. She said Alexander would be my doom. He was way out of my league, like the sun to a moth. He would burn me before I could even reach him.
But how could a moth resist the lure of flame?
I didn’t even enter the dream thinking I could ever get his love, I married him to take care of him. But he allowed me to dream. He indulged my greed to grow with every kiss he gave me, and every gaze he befell upon my eyes. He spoiled me so much for so long that I put my guard down and actually believed the dream to be true.
But I forgot. I forgot that he never said the word “love”. Not even once.
He was waiting for her, how could I not know. How could I be so wide eyed to ever expect anything different?
“Why did you disappear after dinner?”
Alexander enters my room, scaring me to jump out of the bed. He never knocked. Why would he? He owns the whole house. I bear the Luna’s title, but I was never seen as one.
“I was having a headache,” I lower my eyes to lie. If he had seen mine, he would have found whine in them.
He didn’t come home that night when Ava came back to the pack. He hadn’t been for a whole week as if I didn’t exist, but then he came home, and demanded why I disappeared after dinner.
But I couldn’t let him see. Who am I to whine, when her husband took his ex, the love of his life, back home for a simple dinner?
He taps my chin up and looks directly into my eyes. My heart drums frantically. I was never a good liar, and he could easily see through me.
But he lets me off the hook easily today, “You have been feeling ill a lot recently. Have you gotten the body check like I told you to?”
“Last week. The official result hasn’t come out yet, but the doctor said there wasn’t much to worry about.” I let out a relieved breath, settling back to bed.
“Good,” Alexander nods, but instead of letting me go, he stands up and reaches out a hand to me, “Now come down with me to send off our guest. Ava was worried that you went in hiding because you didn’t like having her here.”
My legs are half way under the cover. I freeze awkwardly, feeling my ears burning hot like I just took a slap.
He didn’t come because he missed me. He came because his precious Ava was upset at me.
What’s there for HER to be upset about? I sat through the dinner watching her batting her eyelashes at my husband with a proper smile, didn’t I? Did they really need an audience when they squeezed together like the sofa weren’t two meters wide with most of it empty?
“I really don’t feel well--”
“Get down there in a minute,” Alexander pulls his hand back with an impatient tone, “I can tolerate some cute little tantrum, but know when to stop.”
He slams the door behind him, leaving my head buzzing and my limbs cold. Tears brim out of me but I don’t have time to take care of it. I have to put on a smile and hurry down for his beloved.
I tries to ignore the heartache for a week, but it finally catches up.
Mom was right. He would be my doom. I thought she meant the nasty things people said about an delusional omega taking the advantage of an Alpha’s injury. I thought she meant all the mental and physical damage Alexander left on me.
I was wrong.
He hurt me the most simply by giving me the illusion of love, only to take it back after I fell for it.
Wella’s POV"You don't have months because you're not giving yourself the chance to heal!"The therapist's voice rose, sharp with frustration. "This is insane, Theo. You're walking on a leg that should be immobilized. You're coming in for extra sessions that are actively making you worse. And you're still trying to work? What do you think you're proving?"There was a long pause. I could see Theo's shoulders rise and fall with a breath, see the way his grip on the parallel bars tightened until his knuckles were bone-white."I'm proving nothing," he said finally, and his voice was quiet, almost lost beneath the hum of the lights. "I'm trying to get back to where I need to be. My duty is to protect the Luna, and yesterday—"He stopped. I could see his jaw working, see the muscles in his neck straining."Yesterday I stood at the bottom of those stairs and watched her fall, and I couldn't move. My leg gave out underneath me.""Of course you couldn't!" The therapist threw his hands up, clip
Wella’s POV"He's been avoiding me," I said, and my voice sounded hollow, empty, like it belonged to someone else. "He's—" He hates me, and he should. After what Alexander did to him, “Dorian was right, and I’m done taking from him.”“What did Dorian say this time?!” Anna frowned.“Nothing I shouldn’t hear,” I bit my lips for the slip of that name, “He just said Alexander hurt Theo because of me, which was true. Alexander is that possessive.” He saw me as his assesst, and he didn’t like anyone touching his.Anna sighed, “I don’t know what exactly happened between you and Theo, but here is what I do know:”“Theo's lungs were punctured. That's why he's been coughing, why he can barely speak without wheezing. And his leg—" She stopped. Swallowed."The bones in his left leg were crushed. Alexander's boot came down on him again and again. They had to piece the fragments back together one by one, picking the splinters out of the muscle and the marrow. Every day, he walks on those bones. Eve
Wella’s POVThe hospital ceiling was the same shade of white it had been when I woke up, same fluorescent hum, same antiseptic smell that clung to the back of my throat like old guilt.I had been staring at it for hours, counting the tiles, replaying the dream, the garden, the silver pup, the way he had curled into my arms like I was the only safe place in the world. My baby.I pressed a hand to my stomach, still flat, still hiding its secret, and tried to breathe around the terror that had taken up permanent residence in my chest. The door opened, and my heart tightened like instinct. It was only Anna. Her face pale but composed, carrying a paper bag that smelled like hospital cafeteria coffee and something sweet. She set it on the bedside table and forced a smile for me, “The little thing is safe. And no one is going to find out. Now you need to eat something. You passed out for a whole day."My breath caught in my throat. "How—""Dorian helped." Her voice was flat, carefully neutra
See? He was so obvious.Maybe I didn’t know who he was before. But after three years, I could read him like a book. From the day I saw him with Ava at the obstetrics, I knew his plan. Ava came back to the pack, ungracefully, with a baby in her. But Alexander didn’t make that a public knowledge, not until after she came back almost two months, and then appeared in public, accompanying her to the obstetrics. He was allowing the rumor to make that baby his. There would be no way for Ava to explain a baby in ten months. At least, no graceful way.But this way, no one would need to say anything, and the whole pack would assume that their Alpha just made the mistake all men would, with his one true love that fate took from him, and he was taking up his responsibilty.Because his Omega Luna shamefully tricked her way into the title she didn’t deserve. What a perfect, noble love story he wrote for his Ava.Ava was right. When Alexander loves, he protects. Even if that means he had drag his ow
Wella’s POVThe silence in the room was heavier than the ache in my ribs.Alexander sat in the chair beside my bed, his elbows on his knees, his hands clasped so tightly together that the knuckles had gone white. He hadn't looked at me since I opened my eyes. He just sat there, staring at the floor, his jaw working like he was chewing on words he couldn't quite swallow. But it wasn't concern that I saw in his posture. It wasn't worry. It was anger. The kind that sat still and quiet, coiled like a snake, waiting to strike. My heart stuttered. My hand moved instinctively to my stomach—a reflex I couldn't control—and I felt the panic rise like bile in my throat. Was my baby okay?! Had they told him? Was he going to kill him, or did he already do that?!"Wella." His voice cut through the silence, flat and cold. "...why are YOU the one crying?""Alexander—""Don't." He held up a hand, and I stopped. "I came here to talk. Not to fight. So just—" He sighed, long and heavy, and ran a hand thr
Wella’s POV[Mama...]The voice came from nowhere and everywhere. Soft. Distant. Like a whisper through deep water.[Mama!]I tried to open my eyes, but my lids were too heavy. My body felt like it belonged to someone else—numb and distant, floating in a void where pain didn't exist. I couldn't feel my wrist, couldn't feel the ache in my ribs, couldn't feel anything except that small, insistent voice calling out to me.[Mama! Wake up!]I opened my eyes, expecting to see the hospital ceilling. I was wrong. The sky above me was soft and golden, the kind of light that doesn't come from a sun but from everywhere at once. I was lying on grass—not the coarse, dry grass of the pack's training fields, but something softer. Something that seemed to glow faintly beneath me, warm and gentle, like the earth was breathing.I sat up slowly, and my breath caught. It was my mother's garden.I knew it the moment I saw it—the old stone path she had laid herself, the wooden trellis where she used to gro
