Wella's POV

I walk down the stairs in a long, elegant red dress. Alexander stands beside the stair railing, like a prince awaiting his love, as perfect as on our wedding day. His hand extended for me to hold.

Red is my color. He likes it when I wear red.

I thought about wearing something plain, but Ava wouldn’t like me even if I came down in fishwebs. At least this way, one of them would be happy.

Ava's face turns white when Alexander takes the tips of my finger.

The next second, Alexander pulls me into his chest so roughly that I feels like my wrist broke. Still with a smile, he tilts his head as if landing a kiss when he whispers by my ear--

“I thought I told you to stop throwing a tantrum.”

I’m not. I look up at him with confused eyes, but he is already dragging me forward. Ava is already by the door, seemingly to leave but her purse is still on the table. I almost forgot all her tricks. She used to do that when she had fights with Alexander and wanted him to chase after her.

I really don’t want to be a part of their game.

“You wanted to meet your Luna? Here she is,” Alexander puts his arm around my waist, not realizing he is so nervous that his grip is almost breaking me into halves, “You remember Wella, don’t you?”

Ava glares at him with red eyes, and he returns the exact same stubborn look.

I have seen such fights too many times. Sometimes I felt like Ava also had Alpha blood in her, because she could be just competitive and stubborn just like Alexander. The difference is, I was just an audience before. I never knew having the pressure coming from two gamecocks all on me was so hard to breath.

I thought Ava would shout “why are you so cruel to me”. The old Ava would. She was the proud princess spoiled by everyone, including the Alpha in front of her.

But she is not.

She just lets the tears fall, and instantly Alexander lets go of my waist.

“You have my deepest sorry and respect...Luna,” Ava says with trembling lips. Her tear leaving a glimmering trail down her cheek as she bents her knees to kneel.

Alexander pulls her up roughly into his arms, “What the hell are you doing?!”

I take a step back sneakily. Just one sentence, and I know I already lost to her. After so long, she still knows how to push his buttons. After so much happened, he still couldn’t endure even a tear from her.

What a clown have I been, thinking I could ever take her place?

Alexander was wrong. I didn’t know my place. I was stupid enough to let myself drown in an illusion everyone had warned me about.

“She was your fated, I understand,” Ava bites her lips to stop her tears from falling, “You needed her power to heal your legs, the kind of power I could never give you--”

“I didn’t fucking touch her for that! What kind of a man do you take me?! I waited for--” Alexander bursts out only to stop himself halfway, but he already lost when he showed his heart.

Ava shoots a surprised glance at me with more tears falling out, but I see a shade of triumphant light in her eyes. Just for a second.

Maybe it was never there, but call that a wife’s hunch. It was the kind of flaunt when a woman claims the ownership of a man’s heart.

Alexander hurt his spine in a fight three years ago. Even the pack witch saw no hope of him to ever be able to walk again. His father forced his hand in marrying me, partly because Ava was no longer in the picture, and partly because, bonding with fated is extra power to Alexander. But he didn’t want to borrow the fate’s power to heal himself, and he didn’t lie. He never touched me until there were signs of his legs getting back senses.

In fact, he hated me for two whole years. He would throw things at me whenever I enter his room to change him, fed him and deliver his medicine. When there was nothing to throw, he began throwing nasty words. It was his darkest time as much as it was mine. I turned myself into a numb puppet, taking in all the abuse until it changed for silent resist, and then confusion why I stayed by him, all the way to the day when he called me his luna for the first time.

I wish he DID mark me for his legs, at least that way, I would know that I was only a tool to him. That way, I wouldn’t have mistaken the tenderness he gave me as love.

I would have protected my heart, and reserved myself for my mate. Unlike now, too broken with nothing left to heal.

Alexander looks over at me, and I lower my eyes before I could think it through. But I don’t want to see his eyes. If there was guilt, it only confirmed that he still loved her. If there wasn’t, then...

It would make me even more pathetic.

He takes a step towards me. It takes all my will power to not turn and run. But then Ava grabs my hands first before he could--

“I’m really grateful that you would allow me to come home, my Luna!” Ava spouts these words in tears before she picks up her dress and runs out.

Alexander stares at me for a long second, but then he chases after her.

Wella’s POV"You don't have months because you're not giving yourself the chance to heal!"The therapist's voice rose, sharp with frustration. "This is insane, Theo. You're walking on a leg that should be immobilized. You're coming in for extra sessions that are actively making you worse. And you're still trying to work? What do you think you're proving?"There was a long pause. I could see Theo's shoulders rise and fall with a breath, see the way his grip on the parallel bars tightened until his knuckles were bone-white."I'm proving nothing," he said finally, and his voice was quiet, almost lost beneath the hum of the lights. "I'm trying to get back to where I need to be. My duty is to protect the Luna, and yesterday—"He stopped. I could see his jaw working, see the muscles in his neck straining."Yesterday I stood at the bottom of those stairs and watched her fall, and I couldn't move. My leg gave out underneath me.""Of course you couldn't!" The therapist threw his hands up, clip

Wella’s POV"He's been avoiding me," I said, and my voice sounded hollow, empty, like it belonged to someone else. "He's—" He hates me, and he should. After what Alexander did to him, “Dorian was right, and I’m done taking from him.”“What did Dorian say this time?!” Anna frowned.“Nothing I shouldn’t hear,” I bit my lips for the slip of that name, “He just said Alexander hurt Theo because of me, which was true. Alexander is that possessive.” He saw me as his assesst, and he didn’t like anyone touching his.Anna sighed, “I don’t know what exactly happened between you and Theo, but here is what I do know:”“Theo's lungs were punctured. That's why he's been coughing, why he can barely speak without wheezing. And his leg—" She stopped. Swallowed."The bones in his left leg were crushed. Alexander's boot came down on him again and again. They had to piece the fragments back together one by one, picking the splinters out of the muscle and the marrow. Every day, he walks on those bones. Eve

Wella’s POVThe hospital ceiling was the same shade of white it had been when I woke up, same fluorescent hum, same antiseptic smell that clung to the back of my throat like old guilt.I had been staring at it for hours, counting the tiles, replaying the dream, the garden, the silver pup, the way he had curled into my arms like I was the only safe place in the world. My baby.I pressed a hand to my stomach, still flat, still hiding its secret, and tried to breathe around the terror that had taken up permanent residence in my chest. The door opened, and my heart tightened like instinct. It was only Anna. Her face pale but composed, carrying a paper bag that smelled like hospital cafeteria coffee and something sweet. She set it on the bedside table and forced a smile for me, “The little thing is safe. And no one is going to find out. Now you need to eat something. See? He was so obvious.Maybe I didn’t know who he was before. But after three years, I could read him like a book. From the day I saw him with Ava at the obstetrics, I knew his plan. But Alexander didn’t make that a public knowledge, not until after she came back almost two months, and then appeared in public, accompanying her to the obstetrics. He was allowing the rumor to make that baby his. There would be no way for Ava to explain a baby in ten months. At least, no graceful way.But this way, no one would need to say anything, and the whole pack would assume that their Alpha just made the mistake all men would, with his one true love that fate took from him, and he was taking up his responsibilty.Because his Omega Luna shamefully tricked her way into the title she didn’t deserve. What a perfect, noble love story he wrote for his Ava.Ava was right. Wella’s POVThe silence in the room was heavier than the ache in my ribs.Alexander sat in the chair beside my bed, his elbows on his knees, his hands clasped so tightly together that the knuckles had gone white. He hadn't looked at me since I opened my eyes. He just sat there, staring at the floor, his jaw working like he was chewing on words he couldn't quite swallow. But it wasn't concern that I saw in his posture. It wasn't worry. It was anger. The kind that sat still and quiet, coiled like a snake, waiting to strike. My heart stuttered. My hand moved instinctively to my stomach—a reflex I couldn't control—and I felt the panic rise like bile in my throat. Was my baby okay?! Had they told him? Was he going to kill him, or did he already do that?!"Wella." His voice cut through the silence, flat and cold. "...why are YOU the one crying?""Alexander—""Don't." He held up a hand, and I stopped. Wella’s POV[Mama...]The voice came from nowhere and everywhere. Soft. Distant. Like a whisper through deep water.[Mama!]I tried to open my eyes, but my lids were too heavy. My body felt like it belonged to someone else—numb and distant, floating in a void where pain didn't exist. I couldn't feel my wrist, couldn't feel the ache in my ribs, couldn't feel anything except that small, insistent voice calling out to me.[Mama! Wake up!]I opened my eyes, expecting to see the hospital ceilling. I was wrong. The sky above me was soft and golden, the kind of light that doesn't come from a sun but from everywhere at once. I was lying on grass—not the coarse, dry grass of the pack's training fields, but something softer. Something that seemed to glow faintly beneath me, warm and gentle, like the earth was breathing.I sat up slowly, and my breath caught. It was my mother's garden.I knew it the moment I saw it—the old stone path she had laid herself, the wooden trellis where she used to gro
