MasukSara Hayes' POV
The last two days had been hell. Since the hospital meeting Danielle and Cassie had made it their full time job to remind me exactly what they thought of me. Worthless. Disgusting. Just like your mother. Danielle cornered me on my way to my room. "You're just like your mother, you both are whores. Shameless and worthless." she laughed loudly while she walked away. I didn't answer. To make matters worse, my father stopped me from going to work. I had my bag on my shoulder and my keys in my hand when he appeared at the bottom of the stairs and looked at me the way he looked at things that disappointed him. "Where do you think you're going?" "Work," I said. "My shift starts at—" "You are not going to that coffee shop." I stared at him. "Dad, I need the money. I have bills—" "You are carrying a Kade child. There is no need for you to continue working, rather you should prepare yourself to be a wife. A good one." I opened my mouth to protest but he looked at me coldly and continued. "For the first time in your life you have done something that actually means something. Something that can change this family. And I need you to not ruin it." His eyes were completely serious. "If this falls apart. Just bear it in mind that you will leave this house. I am not raising a bastard child so pray it works out perfectly. Am I clear?" He turned and walked back up the stairs before I could answer. I stood in the hallway disheartened. Since childhood I have always known that my dad didn't like my mother because she was forced on him by my grandparents and my dad made sure to let my mum know everyday that he didn't love her, and even me his child wasn't spared. But still I'm his child, I crave for his love and care too, I was tired of being seen or used as business whenever the opportunity came. Later that afternoon my father called the hospital but they had rejected his demand. Two billion was too much they said. The most they were prepared to offer was five hundred million. "Five hundred million." My father repeated it in the hallway like he was testing the weight of something rotten. "You think five hundred million covers what you did to my daughter." When someone sees the way he was acting, you would actually think he cares for me but all was for his own gain. I knew that my dad can't threaten the hospital because if the news of what happened comes out in public. It will affect Damian Kade and people would want to know why exactly he stored his sperm in the hospital sperm bank. And this might also confirm that he is gay. It would affect the hospital reputation but it will affect Damian more. And I know my dad won't risk being hunted down by Damian. Then my dad came to my room and found me. He pointed at my face with craze in his eye. "You are going to fix this," he said quietly. "You would find a way to contact Damian, I don't care how you find him but you are going to make him understand that marrying you is the only option. You are going to be convincing and you are going to be smart and you are not going to embarrass this family." He looked coldly. "Or you will pack your things and leave my house. I will not have a bastard child under my roof." He walked away. I sat on my bed. Then I whispered. Damian Kade. I took my phone and googled him. I don't know what I expected. The pictures were all the same. Tall. Dark suit. Sharp jaw. He was so handsome that I couldn't help but stare longer. Then I saw a post. "Have you ever wondered why Damian Kade has never been seen with a woman? Not once. Not ever." I clicked on the post, it was still the same theory of him likely to be gay, nothing new. I hissed and closed the post. I pressed my hand over my stomach in the dark. And muttered to my unborn baby. "Baby I hadn't chosen any of this, I don't even know what to do—" I was cut short when I felt my phone buzzing on the mattress beside me. Unknown number. I stared at it. "I don't know this number," I mumbled to myself. Then I picked before it stopped ringing. "Hello?" My voice came out small and rough. One second of silence. Then a voice. Cold. Deep and unhurried. "This is Damian Kade." My blood went very still. "I need to meet you. Tomorrow. Two PM. The Whitmore Restaurant. Don't be late." The line went dead. I sat up slowly and stared at the phone in my hand. He had my number. He knew my name. I lay back down and stared at the ceiling. Strangely calm. In eighteen hours I was going to meet the man whose child I was carrying. I pressed both hands flat over my stomach. "Baby we are going to meet your Father tomorrow." Since I was told that I'm pregnant, I have made it a habit to always talk to my belly as though the child could hear me. I knew that I shouldn't do that, because I'm not even sure that I could keep the child, it's not my decision to make. But maybe due to maternal love, I can't help but always talk to my belly. "I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing," I whispered to myself. "Baby, will your father want us?" I whispered. I didn't know if I should let my father know or not. But later I decided against it. I will rather abort this child than to allow my father benefit from it.Sara Hayes' POVThe last two days had been hell.Since the hospital meeting Danielle and Cassie had made it their full time job to remind me exactly what they thought of me.Worthless. Damian Kade's POVI had been trying to get a meeting with Mr Harrison Caldwell, CEO of H&A, for months. The man was notoriously difficult to reach. His $2.1 billion project was the kind of deal that only came around once and I wanted to be part of it.And finally Victor Russo, his secretary, called at seven in the morning. The golf course was his idea. When I arrived I saw him playing alone. He noticed me and came forward to greet me. Then he invited me to sit down.He went straight to the point."Your numbers are aggressive Kade. On paper you are the obvious choice.""But?" I said."But Harrison is not a paper man." He glanced at me sideways. "He built everything he has on one foundation. Family. It is not just a talking point for him. It is everything Kade. Harrison Caldwell likes to look a man in the eye and know he is stable. Settled.""My company's stability is in the last five quarters of growth Russo. Thirty seven percent year over year."Russo chuckled. "Yeah. And the rumors a
Dad didn't give me a choice.8:00 AM sharp, Me, Dad, Danielle and Cassie were already at the Harlow medical centre. When we got there, the hospital director Dr. Briggs was already waiting for us at the reception. And standing close to him was Dr. Habib. She looked like she hadn't slept."Mr. Hayes. Thank you for coming. If you'll all follow me please." Dr. Briggs said.He led us to a conference room. Some people I didn't recognise were already inside. While some I recognised.Dr Briggs introduced everyone. The people I didn't recognise were the owners of the embryo that was inserted into me.My father sat down. Danielle settled in beside him. Cassie took the chair next to her.I sat down last. Then Dr. Briggs cleared his throat."Thank you all for being here. I want to begin by saying that what happened three weeks ago was an inexcusable failure on the part of this instit—""Just tell us what happened." My father's voice was flat.Dr. Briggs nodded once. He turned to Dr Habib. She cle
I heard the slap before I felt it.The sound cracked through the hallway the moment I stepped through the front door and then the pain followed, across my left cheek, snapping my head sideways."Four o'clock." Danielle's voice was low. That was always the worst sign. "The shop closes at two. Where have you been for two hours, Sara."I pressed my hand against my cheek. "There was traffic. I got stuck and I couldn't—""Traffic." She said the word slowly."Yes."She looked at me for a long moment. Then her eyes dropped to my hand. The one I was pressing against my face. Then they moved to the other hand. The one still holding the folded paper I had been clutching since I left the hospital.I had forgotten about the paper.I tried to slide it into my pocket but she was faster. Her hand shot out and snatched it before I could move and I watched her unfold it.She read it. I watched her face go from calmness to shock."You whore." "After everything your father and I have done for you. We fe
"Jesus Christ!" My voice echoed."What do you mean I'm pregnant?" I was on my feet immediately, the paper gown crinkling loudly in the silence. "How can I be pregnant? No. That is completely impossible. I cannot be pregnant."Dr. Jane Carter blinked at me from behind her glasses."Miss Hayes—""I'm a virgin." I cut her off. My hands were shaking. I pressed them flat against my thighs. "I have never slept with any man. Not once. Not ever in my life. So whatever that test is saying is wrong. Run it again please. There must be a mistake somewhere."Then she nodded once. "We'll run it again if it'll give you peace of mind." She turned slightly. "Nurse, please."They took my blood the second time.I bit my hand while I waited for the result.I came here three weeks ago for stomach cramps. I remember that day clearly now.The doctor Mrs Habib had examined me and said that I needed a pelvic exam and pap smear to rule out infection. She noticed how tense I was and suggested a mild sedative to
