Chapter 1

Author: Crystal K
In the previous life,my sister, Isabella, was jealous that I had given birth to the heir of the Human-Shifter Alliance. She crawled into my mate Alpha Jacob’s bed, then engineered a crash that killed both me and my child.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day of the choosing ceremony.

"Clara, stop playing the victim," my sister Isabella’s voice cut through the ballroom, dripping with the smug satisfaction of a cat that had cornered a mouse.

"Some things were never meant to be yours."

She stood before me, her cheeks still flushed from her tryst with Jacob.

Her dress was wrinkled, but she didn’t seem to care.

Jacob’s scent clung to her, a nauseating mix of possession and conquest.

I let out a soft laugh as the memories flooded back.

In my past life, this was how Isabella had manipulated my father, spinning tales of “priceless true love” and how “Clara shouldn’t stand in the way of her sister’s happiness.”

Seeing that I was ignoring Isabella, my father pulled me aside, his face grim.

“Your sister’s right. Jacob clearly prefers her. Why humiliate yourself?”

Humiliate yourself.

Such familiar words.

All because I was his bastard, while Isabella was the legitimate daughter of his wife.

He was the same in my last life. He never cared what I wanted, only which choice would benefit the family most.

“Then who would you have me choose?” I asked.

“The Elven Prince is a good match.” A calculating glint flashed in my father’s eyes. “Artistic, elegant… a perfect fit for you.”

I glanced across the ballroom.

Prince Freddy of the Elves was chatting with a few noblewomen, his manners indeed refined.

He was the husband Isabella had first chosen in our past life.

As the leaders of the top human conglomerate, our family had the privilege of the first union with a Shifter leader.

In my past life, I married the werewolf Alpha Jacob a. Less than six months after we mated, I gave birth to our hybrid son, Adrian. As the first hybrid born after the Great War, Adrian naturally became the next ruler of the Alliance.

Meanwhile, Isabella, who loved the beauty of the elves, was left diseased by Freddy’s constant philandering. In the end, after multiple miscarriages, Isabella was left barren, and the Elves sent her back to our family in disgrace.

She blamed me for all of her misfortune. Not only did she seduce Jacob and have an affair with him, but she also tampered with my sports car.

The brakes failed. The steering wheel locked.

As I died in the fire, the last thing I heard was her and Jacob’s ecstatic celebration over the phone.

A sharp pain lanced through my heart at the memory.

“I’ve made my decision.” I set down my wine glass, my voice carrying clearly across the ballroom. “I voluntarily relinquish my engagement to Jacob, ceding it to Isabella.”

All conversation stopped.

Hundreds of eyes stared at me as if I’d just said something impossible.

Jacob emerged from a side room, a look of smug satisfaction on his face from his recent tryst with Isabella. But when he heard my words, his expression grew complicated.

“Clara, you—”

"Skip the performance," I cut him off. "I wish you two… all the best."

Isabella was about to shriek with excitement but forced herself to maintain a thin veil of composure, a triumphant smirk playing on her lips.

“Then what about you?” my father asked, his voice tense. “Who will you choose?”

I didn’t answer.

My gaze swept across the room, finally landing on the darkest corner of the ballroom.

Damien Wyatt sat there, alone.

Almost no one dared to approach him. The rumors of the “Doomsday Tyrant” made everyone keep their distance. He was brutal, bloodthirsty, and promiscuous. Some even said he devoured his partners when he grew bored.

But I remembered something else.

In the final moments of the crash, a pair of massive dragon wings had tried to shield me from the fiery explosion.

He had tried to save me. In those golden, slitted pupils, I saw a madness that mirrored my own—the feeling of being isolated and misunderstood by the world.

Even if he hadn't succeeded.

I walked straight toward him.

The temperature in the ballroom seemed to drop several degrees.

Damien looked up, his golden, slitted eyes locking onto mine.

They were so beautiful, yet so dangerous. It was like staring into the abyss.

“Are you sure?” His voice was a low rumble, like distant thunder. “To choose me is to choose darkness.”

I stopped in front of him, meeting his gaze.

“I choose you, Damien.”

A collective gasp echoed behind me.

Isabella laughed, a shrill, mocking sound. “Clara, you really have lost your mind! Trading the future king of the Alliance for a forgotten monster? I guess you truly belong in the shadows, rotting away with the other failures!”

Damien rose to his feet, his tall frame casting a long shadow.

He extended his hand. His fingers were long and elegant, but his nails were as sharp as blades.

“This is your final chance,” he said. “Back out now, and I won’t hold it against you.”

I didn’t hesitate. I placed my hand in his.

Even if everyone thought he was a cruel, wicked monster, and believed the dragons were a dying race.

He was the only one who tried to save me from that explosion. I trusted him.

“That woman is completely insane.”Damien put down his phone, his expression grim.A month later, Isabella had completely lost her mind. The news from the sanatorium was that she had gone missing.I didn't think anything of it. What trouble could a broken, crazy woman possibly cause? All my attention was on my three dragon eggs. They grew more beautiful by the day, the life force within them getting stronger and stronger. Then, one night, I was deep asleep when I was jolted awake by a sudden, hollowing emptiness in my heart.I ran barefoot into the nursery. The next second, the blood in my veins turned to ice.The incubator was empty. My three dragon eggs were gone.A piercing alarm shattered the night’s silence. Damien appeared beside me like a phantom. When he saw the empty incubator, a hellish fury erupted in his golden, slitted eyes.“Who dares!” he snarled, his voice thick with killing intent. The security footage was pulled up.On the screen was a ghostly figure in a hospital gow

“Clara, wake up.”Damien’s voice was as soft as a feather brushing against my ear.I slowly opened my eyes and found myself in a comfortable hospital bed. The room was quiet, save for the gentle hum of medical equipment.“The children—” I struggled to sit up.“They’re perfect,” Damien said, stroking my hair. “Look.”I turned my head. Next to the bed was an incubator.Three dragon eggs lay nestled inside, each the size of a basketball, their surfaces shimmering with an iridescent, rainbow-colored light. They were as beautiful as works of art.“So soon?” I couldn’t believe it.“You delivered them in under an hour,” Damien said, his eyes filled with pride. “The doctor said it was the smoothest draconic birth he’s ever witnessed.”One hour?In my last life, I was in labor with Jacob’s child for sixteen agonizing hours and nearly died on the delivery table.“How do you feel?” Damien took my hand. “Are you in any pain?”“I feel fine.” And I truly did. Aside from being a little tired, my body

I rushed to the hospital.“Triplets,” the private physician pushed his glasses up his nose, looking even more shocked than I was as he studied the ultrasound image. “Three dragon eggs, to be precise.”I lay on the examination bed, staring at the monitor. Three oval shapes were lined up neatly, each glowing with a faint, ethereal light.“Is that normal?” I asked.“For dragons, perfectly normal,” the doctor said, quickly taking notes. “You’re two months along. The shells are forming. We expect them to hatch in another six months.”Six months.Much shorter than a human pregnancy.Damien walked into the room as I was getting dressed.“How is it?” he asked.“Three,” I said. “We’re having three children.”His golden, slitted eyes lit up instantly, glowing with a warmth that was nothing like the “Doomsday Tyrant” of legends.“How do you feel?” he asked, coming over and gently helping me up. “Any discomfort?”“I feel good,” I said, leaning against his chest. “Better than I expected.”When I wa

“No!” Isabella shook her head wildly. “I didn’t betray you! I swear I didn’t!”“Then how do you explain this?” Jacob pointed at the four rays of light.“I—I—” Isabella stammered, then, as if remembering something, her face went even whiter. “The Breeding Ritual! It was the Breeding Ritual!”A collective gasp went through the room. The Breeding Ritual was one of the wolf clan’s most ancient and forbidden magics. It used the life essence of multiple clan members to boost the chances of conception, but the price was a chaotic and impure bloodline in the offspring.“Are you insane?” Jacob was completely unhinged. “That ritual has been banned for centuries!”“But you said you’d do anything for an heir!” Isabella wailed, her voice breaking. “You said you needed a powerful child! I was just trying to help! I wanted to get pregnant quickly! I wanted to prove to you I was a thousand times better than Clara! Everything I did was for you, for our future!”“The glory I wanted,” Jacob’s voice was

“You whore! You betrayed me!”Jacob’s roar shook the entire living room.He stood over Isabella, his silver eyes burning with rage. The wine glass in his hand shattered, and blood dripped from his fingers, but he didn't seem to feel the pain.Isabella cowered in the corner of the sofa, the infant in her arms letting out a weak cry.The baby’s fur was indeed strange. Not the pure, silver-white of Jacob’s clan, but a mottled gray-brown, with streaks of black.“Jacob, I swear I didn’t—”“Shut up!” Jacob slapped her across the face. “The pure Silver Wolf bloodline has endured for a thousand years! We have never produced a mutt like this!”He reached for the baby. “I’ll deal with this disgrace myself!”“Stop.”Damien’s voice cut through the air like a blade of ice.He emerged from the shadows, his golden, slitted eyes locking onto Jacob. The pressure from a true apex predator froze Jacob in place.“The child is innocent,” Damien said calmly.“Innocent?” Jacob laughed, a crazed sound. “The e

The elevator doors slid shut, hiding Isabella’s jealousy-twisted face from view. The living room fell into a dead silence. My taut nerves finally unwound. I turned to look at the figure on the balcony.“Thank you,” I said. “For before.”Damien didn’t turn around. His voice was flat. “Thank me? For taking out your trash?”“And for… not letting them touch anything in here,” I said softly. He finally turned and walked toward me, each step carrying an invisible weight that pressed down on me. As he cast his shadow over me, I could barely breathe. He stopped right in front of me, so close I could smell the unique scent on his skin.“Clara,” he began, his golden, slitted pupils like two embers in the dim light. “I know what you’re doing.”My heart leaped into my throat. He reached out and expertly tilted my chin up, forcing me to meet those all-seeing eyes.“You weren’t choosing a husband,” he said, his voice a low rumble. “You were choosing a knife.
