Camila’s POV

It took the girls a while to calm down after the incident with Kendra.

I couldn’t blame them. Dante had pointed a gun at her, and I had stepped directly in front of it.

“I’ll get blankets and pillows,” I said, standing from the couch.

I hurried upstairs, but I wasn’t really thinking about the blankets.

I wanted to check on Dante.

Still, I knew he needed time to calm down after what had happened. I stopped outside his bedroom and knocked softly.

There was no answer.

I pushed the doo

Camila’s POV“Hey, Elias.”I smiled as I sat beside him, but he only gave me a brief, tired look. Then I remembered what had happened at the ball.“I’m sorry,” I said quietly.Elias finally looked at me. “It wasn’t your fault.”“I know, but I still feel terrible.”He rubbed a hand over his face. “I’m angry because you survived and she didn’t.”The pain in his eyes made my chest tighten.“I almost didn’t survive.”I touched the bandage on my neck.Elias looked at it and shook his head. “I knew Dante wouldn’t do it.”“How?”He glanced at me as if the answer should have been obvious. “You really thought he was going to kill you?”“I thought I was going to die. He had no reason to spare me.”Elias laughed under his breath. “You and Dante are both blind.”“Blind?”“You don’t see what’s obvious to everyone else.”Before I could ask what he meant, Dante jogged toward us. He was still wearing his suit, though his tie was loosened and his expression was tense.“Elias, can you wrap my hands?”E

I stopped outside his bedroom and knocked softly. There was no answer.I pushed the door open slightly.Dante sat on the edge of his bed with his elbows resting on his knees, dragging both hands through his hair. The room was dark, the heavy curtains allowing only thin strips of daylight to enter.“Are you angry with me?” he asked without looking up.His voice held a vulnerability I rarely heard from him.“No.” I stepped inside and closed the door behind me. “Are you angry with me?”He shook his head.I moved closer and stood beside him.“I couldn’t kill you,” he admitted. “Even i

  • Promised to the Mafia Devil   Chapter 21 The Unwanted Guest

Camila’s POVI woke feeling rested for the first time in weeks. My mind was clear, and my body didn’t ache from another night of broken sleep. I smiled faintly at the ceiling before remembering that Clara and her friends were coming over. The excitement quickly faded. What if Dante liked one of them? What if he looked at them the way he looked at me and realized he could have someone better?I glanced toward his side of the bed.Empty.That wasn’t unusual, but at least he must have slept after everything that happened with Lucia.A leather journal rested on his desk.I stared at it for a moment.I wanted to know what he wrote inside, but I wasn’t going to invade his privacy. Dante had barely started trusting me. Reading his journal would destroy that progress.I climbed out of bed and changed into something warmer. Winter was settling over the city, and the air had become colder every morning. When I returned to the hallway, Dante was standing near the entrance without a shirt.“Put s

Camila’s POVI woke with a violent jolt.My breathing came fast, and sweat dampened my forehead. My heart pounded against my ribs as I stared into the darkness, waiting for my eyes to adjust.I couldn’t remember the nightmare.Maybe that was a blessing. After a few deep breaths, I climbed out of bed and checked the alarm.2:32 a.m.I wiped my forehead with the sleeve of Dante’s sweatshirt and left my room. The estate was silent.Lucia and Vittorio still hadn’t returned from the ball, but I wasn’t worried. The Moretti family owned properties across the country. They could be anywhere.I went to the kitchen and filled a glass with water.“You’re awake.”I jumped so hard that water spilled over my fingers.“Jesus, Dante.”He stood near the window, staring into the dark grounds.“Why are you awake?” he asked.

Camila’s POVA few days passed, and I was beginning to feel trapped inside the estate.Dante was usually away handling business, which meant I couldn’t even bother him when I was bored.I grabbed the house phone and dialed his number. He answered after several attempts.“What?”His deep voice came through the line, mixed with muffled voices and the sound of movement in the background.“Hi,” I said, biting my lip. “I’m bored.”“That sounds like a personal problem.”“I want to go out and get something to eat.”A frustrated sigh reached me through the phone.“Take Mason with you.”I nearly jumped. “Really?”“Don’t make me change my mind.”“Thank you!”I cheered so loudly that I forgot he was still on the phone.“Camila, be careful.”

Camila’s POVDante locked the door after Knox left. For a moment, he remained there with his forehead against the wood, his shoulders tense.“Are you all right?” I asked carefully. He didn’t answer. Then he turned and crossed the kitchen in a few quick strides. His hands settled around my waist, pulling me against him until I could feel the heat of his body.“I’m returning the favor,” he murmured. His mouth touched my neck.My knees weakened as his kisses moved over my skin. I gripped his shoulders, caught between wanting him closer and not knowing what to do with the feelings he awakened in me.“Dante…”He made a low sound against my throat.I pulled back slightly. “Should we stop?”His breathing was uneven. “Do you want to?”I didn’t.The answer frightened me, but I nodded anyway.
