Chapter 6

    Maximus Danielle

"Why don't you talk to Philip about the contract?" I ask him, and with the look on his face, I need no one to tell me that he doesn't like the sound of that.

Philip is a sixty-five years old awarded robotic engineer in the USA and the CEO of T&T Electronic company. Kai and I are going to be working on a project later, called the E-Detector project. E-Detector is a robot that detects nothing, but emotions, and also treat people who are ill. We want to build a big hospital in town, where only robots will be there to attend to both humans' and other creatures' needs. This is a strategy to add more fame and power to our pack and to make this happen, we would need the help of Philip.

"I told you that I'm not interested in working with Philip. Look for someone else," He replies to me bluntly, picking up the book on the desk, and opening to a page.

"Come on, Kai... We both know that there's no one else that can do this better than Philip, and that is why we need him..."

"If there's nobody else, then forget it. I won't work with him," He cuts me off bluntly.

"What do you want us to do now?" I ask him, and he shrugs.

"Drop the project if there's no other way around it. I'd rather stop the project than work with a mere human..."

"What is it with you, Kai? I understand you don't want to have anything to do with humans, but we need his help at this point. How could you ask me to drop the project instead? Do you know how long we have been struggling with this? Do you know how long we have been fighting for this? Can you just cast your hatred for humans aside and focus on the goal for once?" I slam my hands on the desk, and he sighs deeply as he reclines on the chair. I know that I'm already crossing the line I shouldn't be crossing, but I can't just help it. I'm angry about this, and I can't hide it.

"Get out, Max," He suddenly says to me with his eyes closed as he throws his head back. His breath is already becoming thick and rough, his veins are popping out of his skin, and I can feel the scent of his wolf. I already pushed him beyond the limit, and now his wolf is trying to take over him.

"I told you to get the hell out, Max!" He roars as he springs up to his feet, slamming his hands on the desk.

"Call me when you're calm," I say to him before I turn and walk out of his study.

"Damn it!" I heard his growl from inside as I walk down the corridor, and I sigh briefly.

Walking down the verandah a few minutes later, my phone suddenly starts ringing and I stop to answer it. Seeing the caller to be the supervisor handling the affair of the pack's new site, I almost scream my lungs out. For fuck's sake, I'm not in a good mood now, so can they just stop calling already?

"What is it?" I ask coldly as soon as I answer the call.

"Hello, Max... The rods have just been delivered to the site now," He says to me, and I scoff angrily. Did he call just to tell me that? So annoying.

"Fuck!" I curse under my breath after I end the call.

Stepping into my room a few minutes later, I throw myself on my bed and release a deep sigh. I don't know how I'm going to do this, but I need to convince Kai to meet Philip. We have come a long way to give everything up now. We can't stop at this point.

A sudden knock sound on my door, pulling me out of my train of thought, and I sit up on the bed, wondering who would be at the door.

"Who is that?" I ask as I advance toward the door and pull it open, revealing a young lady whom I assume to be one of the maids in the villa. What does she want? I don't remember sending for any maid, did I?

"Greetings, Your Highness," She bows and greets me while holding her gaze low. As much as I don't want to be rude, I hope she understands that I'm not in a good mood now and leave immediately.

"What do you want?" I ask her, trying to sound calm even if my voice is fighting with me.

"Uhm... I... I'm sorry, I must've missed my way here," Her voice is so low that I can barely hear her, which I assume to be a result of nervousness. What the hell? Am I that scary now? I stare at the bottle in her hand for a few seconds before I raise my gaze to look at her again.

"Who are you?" I ask her curiously.

"Look at me," I order her, and she finally raises her gaze to look at me, her pair of hazel eyes bore into mine, and for some seconds, I feel my heartbeat stop. She has the most beautiful and innocent oval-shaped face, her skin is as smooth as silk, her pointed nose compliments her beauty, and her long thick black hair is falling freely over her head with some strands on her forehead. She has an average height just like every other she-wolf I've come across. Who the hell is she?

"Uhm... My name is Amelie... Uhm... I'm Ariel's sister..." She stutters, and I squint my eyes in confusion. Ariel has a sister and I didn't know that?

"Ariel's sister? Ariel has a sister?" I ask, curiosity killing me.

"Forgive me, your Highness... Uhm... I think I came to the wrong room," She quickly bows and apologizes to me, but it doesn't seem to me like she missed her way. She came here intentionally, but does that matter now?

"I'll be on my way now," She turns to leave.

"Wait!" She halts abruptly, and I can see fear written all over her. Wait! Don't tell me she's thinking that I'm going to harm her. That's so not me, please.

"Amelie?" Ariel suddenly calls her name as she shows up from nowhere, and she snaps her head up to see her.

"What are you doing here?" Ariel walks over to her and whispers.

"Forgive my sister for disturbing you, Max. She must've missed her way," Ariel apologizes to me, and I slowly nod my head.

They both bow before they walk away, and I stare at them until they are out of sight...
