Chapter 2

Izariah-

Walking in the direction the shouting was coming from, I was able to hear things clearer. “Leave me alone! I told you that I didn’t mean to!” A young man was shouting.

Coming around the corner of a building, I saw a group of four men surrounding a smaller man. They all looked about twenty years old or so, while the smaller man looked to be about sixteen. The four men towered over the smaller one, not giving him any room to escape.

“I don’t care if you didn’t mean to or not. You will pay for my bike, or I will make you pay with your life.” One of the four men growled at the younger man.

Not sure what was going on, I looked around and saw that there were four motorcycles parked a couple of yards away. One had a mirror hanging off it. I had a feeling it had something to do with that.

Thinking this wasn’t enough to get worked up with and threaten someone’s life, I started forward. “Is this really necessary? It is clear you guys are scaring the poor kid. Let’s just calm down and we can handle this in a civil manner.” I suggested calmly, not trying to aggravate the situation if I could help it.

“Little girl, don’t get involved.” The man that had yelled at the kid said, but he didn’t turn around as he spoke.

I didn’t know what this dude’s deal was, but he needed a serious attitude adjustment. I could ignore that he called me a little girl, but I couldn’t ignore that he was currently bullying a kid over a stupid bike. From the looks of things, I was sure the man could afford to fix it.

“I don’t have the money to fix it.” The boy cried.

Before I knew what was happening the man threw the boy on the ground and started kicking him in the side. “Then you will pay with your life!” The man yelled.

Okay, this was too much. All sense of reason seeped out of me as I was filled with fury. Unable to stand back and watch these guys beat up on a kid, my body propelled forward as if it had a mind of its own.

Before I could stop myself or think about what I was doing, I launched myself into the air and tackled him to the ground. My fists started slamming into the man, as I released a war cry.

“It is not right to bully young kids!”

Not letting up on my punches, I was surprised when his friends just stood back and watched me hit on him. One punch after another, I continued to berate him for picking on the kid. When I glanced toward where the kid was, I was relieved to see that he had run off.

Getting one last swing in, I pushed off him and took a few steps back. He laid still for a bit, but he looked unharmed other than a little blood coming from the corner of his mouth. I could practically feel the anger coming off him except I didn’t care.

Where did he get off picking on those that were obviously weaker than him? I could sense they were werewolves, as was the boy that they had been picking on, so I didn’t feel guilty for what I did. If anything, I felt a little satisfied that I had knocked him down and caused him to bleed.

I was generally particularly good at containing my temper, yet when I see someone being bullied, it is like something inside of me snaps. Looking over at the other three, I noticed none of them tried to help their friend up. Their attention was focused on me, but I was confused by their expressions. They almost seemed impressed or something.

“You are going to pay for that.” The man on the ground snarled, slowly sitting up and wiping at the blood on his face.

Placing my hands on my hips, I glared at him while ignoring his threat. “You think you are all big bad and scary? Guys like you make me sick. Just because you are some Alpha doesn’t give you the right to behave as if everyone is beneath you.”

His eyes flashed from dark green to a deep brown, almost appearing black. His wolf was trying to come forward and honestly, the power he gave off was a little terrifying, but I wasn’t going to back down. I was willing to die for what I thought was right.

“You sense I am an Alpha, yet you attack me anyways?”

“It doesn’t make a lick of a difference to me if you were the King of Wolves. I will never submit to an Alpha like you, so to me, you are nothing but trash.” As the words fell from my mouth, I wanted to take them back, yet I refused to apologize for them.

Insulting an Alpha was grounds to get imprisoned or worse. I knew the consequences of my actions, yet I couldn’t stop myself. My anger toward him didn’t allow me to think clearly.

“Tell me your name.” He commanded.

His command was enforced by the Alpha’s will, making it nearly impossible to keep me from submitting to him even though I just said I wouldn’t. Biting down on my tongue, I resisted as hard as I could. For some odd reason, I managed to remain in control and not give him the satisfaction of learning my name.

“Fuck you.” I sneered.

His eyes narrowed on me as he jumped to his feet. In two swift movements, he was towering over me as a low and deep rumble resonated from him. Not wanting to show him that I was scared, I stared into his eyes.

“Think he will kill her?” I heard one of the other men whisper to another.

“I doubt it, but this may get interesting.” Another man stated with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“I, Alpha Braxton, vow to make you regret this day.”

Ah, so that was his name. Eh, I highly doubt I would remember it. I would remember his face though. Despite the fact I couldn’t stand him, he was handsome. There was this boyish yet rugged charm about him.

His sharp jawline had a slight shadow covering it, from the stubble growing. All he needed now was a scar or something on his face to make him look dangerous. He already had the style, with his black leather coat, black jeans, and aviator sunglasses hanging from the neckline of his black shirt.

To top it off he had black combat boots and a black bracelet with a couple of small studs on it. If it weren’t for the possibility that I was sure his outfit cost more than one semester of my college tuition, I would think he was some thug. I take that back; his attitude alone made him seem like a thug.

“Highly unlikely.” I snorted.

Something flashed in his emerald green eyes and a wicked grin flashed on his face. Not caring to find out what he was going to do, I spun on my heel and walked away. As far as I am concerned, I had no intention of ever seeing him again.

Once I was out of sight and around the corner, I pressed my back against the brick building as a small panic attack hit me. What the hell had I been thinking? I was brave, but I have never been stupid. Picking a fight with an Alpha was certainly insane.

Placing my hand over the location of my heart, I felt that it was beating wildly. I had to be the luckiest person on the face of the planet to get away from them unscathed. Shaking my head, I patted my chest to try to calm myself.

“Pull it together.” I whispered to myself.

Getting a grip on myself, I leaned my head against the wall and took a slow deep breath before exhaling. A thought occurred to me at this moment, and I wondered why he hadn’t defended himself against my attack or why his friends didn’t step in to help. They could have easily taken me without much effort.

Shoving away from the wall, I peeked my head around the corner to look back at them. I saw them sitting on their motorcycles, placing their helmets over their heads. It looked like I was getting away with what I did.

When they started up their motorcycles, I quickly ducked back behind the wall, flattening myself against the brick. A few seconds later they came speeding out and driving past me. A shiny object caught my attention when Braxton flew past me, and I froze.

In the rush to get away from them, I had left my book bag behind and now he had it with him. Oh great, now I was screwed. My wallet was inside my bag, along with my school identification card. So much for him not learning my name.

Groaning, I banged my head against the wall a couple of times, welcoming the sting of pain that accompanied it. When I was done with my tantrum, I turned to head back to the bakery. Luckily, I had my debit card and bus card in the slot on my phone case.

At least because I had my phone, I wasn’t completely screwed. Now all I could do was wait to see what he planned to do now that he had my information. Sighing, I pushed away from the wall and headed inside the bakery.
