"I'm sorry."

I was about to deny the things that he said—I was about to lie again regarding what he asked, but my mouth betrayed the hell out of me, like it had its own life and brain.

Instead of saying what I wanted to say, my mouth said those words. It's a sign that it betrayed me and a sign that it's tired of telling lies, and maybe this time, my mouth wants to speak the truth.

He laughed, and that's why I looked up at him unexpectedly.

"So I am really right?" he asked while still laughing, "That you really are avoiding me?"

I don't know if I heard correctly or if my ears are playing tricks on me, but he really sounds hurt while saying those words. Especially since he stumbled slightly while saying the word "avoiding."
