LOGINThe day passed in the blink of an eye, and Edward returned home in the evening.
‘I am going to have to tell her’. ‘She has to go since Megan is back. I don't need her anymore’. Edward thought to himself as he got out of his car and entered the mansion before him. Upon getting into the living room, Liya was not there waiting for him as usual. It was surprising to him, to the extent he stared around and began to wonder if something had happened. His pace quickly as he walked in the direction of the bedroom. As he stood in front of the door, he pushed it open and entered, before closing the door behind him. “Baby?”. Edward called, but halted when he saw her sitting on the bed and smiling sweetly at him. But that was not what caught his attention. It was the night dress she wore. It was a thin silver night dress, which was almost revealing, and clearly showed him that she wasn't wearing any undies. He swallowed the invisible lump in his throat as he tried to cage his desire to have her. He did not want to have his way with her today. Not when he was supposed to mention the news of divorce to her. ‘This is my chance. I guess this should be enough for ever doubting him’. Liya thought, before she rose from the bed and went to his side. Her hand reached out and caressed his cheek, before she began to untie his tie. “Wai-”. Edward tried to stop her, but his words got stuck in his throat when she kissed him. The sweet scent coming from her body took over his entire mind, and all he could think was making love to her as a couple. As her lips parted from his, he grabbed the back of her head and pulled her in for a more intense kiss, which was accompanied by tearing her dress, before he carried her up in his arms, with her legs around his hip. Their lips never parted the whole time, until he placed her under him on the bed, and she began to undress him, while he kissed her body hungrily and was ready enough to have her. …. “Ah”. The bright light woke Liya from sleep. She turned a few times on the bed with a groan, before she finally sat up, with her eyes barely open as she stretched her arms above her head. She turned to the side, but Edward was nowhere to be found. But, recalling what happened last night, made her face turn red from blushing, before she forced herself to her feet. She looked at the mess they had caused, and shook her head awkwardly in shame. Anyway, she didn't dwell much on it. She went to her wardrobe and took out a plain silk dress, which she wore, before she went out of the bedroom, in search of Edward. Because she was not able to find him in the living room, she thought about going to the kitchen to grab herself a glass of water, as she was thirsty. Though, she did not imagine beforehand that Edward would be there. She smiled and wanted to go ahead and hug his back, but seeing him kiss his phone repeatedly like something precious was in it, made her rethink her decision. Instead, she just stood there and watched him, as she tried to understand what he was doing. “I'm sorry, Liya. But she's back and i can't keep up with this pretense. Megan's the one I love and had promised to bear my children”. She heard Edward mutter, and that was enough to shatter the fairytale she thought she had. She almost gasped, but covered her mouth tightly with her palm, as she continued to watch him. It's like he was making preparations to break the news. ‘This… this can't be’. Liya thought and felt her eyes getting red. She could not believe that Edward would plan to say such things to her… after everything they've been through. So this was why he convinced her to take the birth control pills? she thought he just wanted to be ready to start a family. These past years, her mother-in-law had called her all sorts of names. She had called her barren… but, she took everything because she loves her husband. Was that why he always took her side whenever his mother called her barren? Because he felt guilty of the backlash she received. As he turned, it made her hurry away. She ran back to the bedroom and sat in front of the mirror. Her eyes were teary, and as the tears escaped from them, she wiped them off using the back of her hand. She even forgot that they were intimate last night and she was supposed to take the birth control pills again… her biggest worry was that he was about to end things with her. When the sound of his footsteps got closer, she grabbed her comb, and forcing a smile on her face as she battled with herself internally, she began to comb her hair. The door to the room opened, and Edward walked in. She tried to look happy when she saw him, but after what she had just heard, she could not. Edward came to her side. “You must be tired and thirsty, babe. Here you go. A glass of water to start your day”. He said to her and gave the glass to her. Her heart shattered completely, and she was afraid nothing could hold them up. She bit her lower lip as she collected it from him while wondering why he hasn't said anything. “Thank you”. Liya said, and took a sip out of it. Her action made Edward place a kiss on her slender shoulder. “Em, babe. We are going to the villa today to meet my parents. I have an important announcement to make”. Edward said, and she nodded at him with a smile. “Announcement? what announcement?” She was curious to know but didn't say anything. He smiled back at her. “Let me freshen up first”. He said, and after he turned to the bathroom and entered it, the look on his face changed to a guilty one. ‘I am sorry, Liya”. As for Liya, she rose from the chair in a hurry and ran to the balcony, where she vomited the water she never swallowed, into a plant pot. At this point trusting whatever he gives her would be a big mistake. Her eyes were red, and as tears streamed down her face, she could not stop. But, she had finally realized it. To Edward’s eyes, she had always been the other woman. Thinking about that made her feel very weak, as she squatted on the ground and whimpered, while making sure he was barely able to hear her voice. {2 hours later} The drive to the villa was awkwardly quiet. Both did not say anything to each other, as they each had something stuck in their minds. The car suddenly stopped in front of a familiar black gate, which opened, giving way for Edward’s car to drive in. Edward parked his car close to the water fountain, before he got out of it. Liya also got out of the car, and she followed Edward inside the house. She didn't know the reason why, but she had been having a bad feeling about it. And, she guessed her instincts were right, because the minute she stepped foot inside the living room, she met her for the first time ever. His true love, who sat comfortably on the sofa and was chatting happily with her mother-in-law. She froze, then turned to Edward with red eyes. “Who… who is she?”. Liya asked with a raised eyebrow. “Oh, there you are, my son”. Sarah said. As for her? Megan? The moment her eyes landed on Edward, she rose from the sofa and went to hug him, purposely brushing her shoulder against Liya, who was confused about the whole thing. “Baby, you came back for me!”. Megan said as she hugged him. And to Liya’s surprise, Edward hugged Megan back and didn't push her away. That scene made it feel like someone had pierced her heart with nails. “Edward, please explain to me. What is going on here?”. Liya’s voice felt very weak as she demanded the truth from him. Sarah scoffed and placed her hands on her waist. “What do you think is going on, Liya? My true daughter-in-law has returned, and it is time for you to pack your things and leave”. “My son does not need a wretched and barren woman like you, who has no identity!”. Sarah declared. “Edward, please answer me”. Liya pleaded. “What is going on?”. Her heart continued to shatter as she demanded. “I am sorry, Liya. But, you have to go. Megan is my true wife”. “I would never have married you in the first place if you looked nothing like her”. Edward replied to her, His words were the final blow that woke her up to face reality. He never loved her. …She wanted to cry but then reminded herself that she had not signed the divorce paper and as long as she had not signed, she was still his wife. That was what she told herself at 4am.That was the only reason she was standing here, she'd endure and Edward would come to his senses soon. “Good morning”. Liya said quietly, but nobody answered her. They sat down, Edward at the head of the table while Megan on his right.Liya lifted the jug and poured juice into Edward’s glass. She placed his plate in front of him with his fork and napkin. She did everything the way she had done it for three years like nothing had changed. She did not look at Megan’s empty plate because she did not serve her and she was about to step back when a hand caught hers…Edward's hand. Her breath got caught in her throat, and her heart skipped. ‘Maybe he wants to apologise’. Liya thought, ‘I stayed, despite how badly he hurt me. Maybe he finally sees it’. She lifted her eyes to his.“Liya”. Edward said softly.“Y
“What? Are- are you really serious about this, Edward? How could you do this to me?”. Liya asked and desperately looked at him, hoping that whatever he had just said to her was a joke. But, a single glance at her, and that was it. “It's over, Liya. You should leave. But considering what we have gone through together, I won't let you leave empty-handed”. Edward said to her, as he buried his guilt in the deepest parts of his heart. That was because he felt sorry for Megan, who had to stay apart from him all this while. “Just leave, jinx. You are staining my eyes”. Sarah said with a hiss. As for Liya. She couldn't take it anymore. The betrayal. How Edward was nonchalant to her, like he had become a completely different person. This was not the person she had fallen in love with and had given her entire heart to. “Is this why you took me to the villa? To reject me in the presence of your mother? What about father?”. Liya’s lips trembled as she asked, not expecting Edward to bring out

She couldn't believe it. “Edward?”. She muttered, as a drop of tear escaped her eye. “Just stay back, Liya! Don't make things worse for me”. Edward yelled at her again, before his eyes softened, and he came to stand in front of her. He caressed her cheek. “Be good, okay? I will be right back”. He assured her, before he turned and left for his white car in a hurry. As soon as he got in, he drove off. Tears filled Liya’s eyes as she watched the car drive out of the mansion. It was getting a bit clear to her that something was going on, and that he was hiding it from her. “Is it because of her?”. Liya muttered and felt very bitter. “No. I don't believe it. It must be work. It must be about the company”. “It has been three years, and she has never shown up. So, how is it possible that she would show up now?”. “I don't believe it”. “I don't!”. Liya yelled and shook her head in defeat as she fell to her knees and cried, while she clenched her chest tightly.
“I love you, Liya. I always had”. Edward caressed Liya’s cheek ever so gently as he said to her, before he leaned for a kiss. If it were before, his words would have melted away the very foundation of her heart. But, it was not the same this time. Her heart was piercing and heavy. She felt bitter, but did not want to lose composure in front of him or cry. For the first time since they got married three years ago, she realized yesterday that she was not truly loved by the man she gave her entire heart to. His drunken words yesterday. The way he lovingly stared at the picture he had saved at his cell phone’s screen lock. It was yesterday she clearly saw the face of the lady. All this while, he never let her come close to his cell phone. But one reckless night exposed his true intentions to her. She thought he had fallen in love with her at first sight. She thought he had gotten married to her because he couldn't bear to let her live in a world apart from him. But yester
