Dominic’s POV

The walls of my office suddenly felt tight and as if that was not enough, the air was heavy. Numbers blurred on the screen in front of me, and for the first time in years, I couldn’t focus.

My chest burned with restrained anger and my jaw was clenched so tight that it hurt.

When I couldn’t hold it in any longer, I slammed my fist against the table, pushing my chair backwards in anger.

“DAMN IT!” The roar that tore out from me was like an animal breaking free from its restrain.

Before I knew what I was doing, my hand grabbed the name plaque on my desk and without a second thought, I hurled it across the room.

The object hit the wall with a violent crack, splintering the frame before clattering to the floor.

It was at that moment that my office door clicked open.

“Dominic?”

It was Avery. Her voice was soft but cautious as she stepped inside, her heels clicking against the marble floor.

Her blonde hair was twisted up in one of those immaculate buns and her pale dress hu

  • QUEEN OF ASHES: RISE OF THE SCORNFUL EX-WIFE!   Chapter 13

Lisa’s POVAvery's words didn't faze me. She has sounded like some bitch trying to seek attention and validation. She wasn't my target but since she wants to choose to be one, she should bring it on. It would be even more fun if I bring down both couples.Tossing my phone on the cushion, I let out a low sigh. I had been waiting for Dominic to make his move but there was nothing from him. After Alan’s article dropped, I expected him to throw a tantrum like he was known to always do. Legal threats or maybe even a press conference where he would pound the table and call me a liar. That was Dominic’s way. He was always loud, aggressive and impossible to ignore. But hours went by in a blur but still, nothing. Not a text, not even a counterattack. His decision to stay silent unsettled me more than anything else could have. I found myself pacing across the living room, with my arms folded and my mind racing. He was planning something, he had to be. Dominic didn’t take blows quietly; he

  • QUEEN OF ASHES: RISE OF THE SCORNFUL EX-WIFE!   Chapter 12

Lisa’s POVWhen the news got to me, I nearly dropped the file I had in my hand.Dominic had the contract. No way. I won that contract free and fair. My passion and words blew the mind of the shareholders and they promised I was going to get the contract. And just when I reached out to find out the reason for the delay, I was told Dominic got the deal.Their reasons: he had been in a business for so long, the business world is harsh for the women and a whole lot of bullshit I couldn't recall. Was I angry, or mad? Not at all. If anything, I was just impressed with the moves Dominic pulled to get what he wanted. Smirking, I fell into my chair with my gaze on the ceiling. Folding my hands on my chest, I tried to recall any event from the past about Dominic but my brain was clogged. Just when I was going to yell out my lungs in frustration, the door creaked open and Claire stepped in. “Should I go ahead?" She asked, pushing her iPad in front of her. “Sure." I nodded, swallowing my

  • QUEEN OF ASHES: RISE OF THE SCORNFUL EX-WIFE!   Chapter 10

Lisa’s POVA few days later, I found myself sitting across Jesse in one of the city’s five star restaurants. It was a place designed for the elites in the society. When I received the address, I had objected at first but Jesse insisted that it would be a good place to talk without half of the city eavesdropping.“Enjoy," the waiter said, setting down two glasses of wine before us only to disappear almost immediately.Jesse leaned back into his chair with his hands folded on his crossed legs. He was studying me with those sharp eyes of his. There was always something deliberate about the way he moved. He wasn't acting like a sloth but it was as if he never wasted energy.“So,” he began, breaking the silence as he swirled the wine in his glass, “are you really ready to square off with Dominic?”Raising my brow, I locked eyes with him for a while before answering, “You sound like you expect me to be hiding under my desk.”“I expect you to know what you’re walking into,” he replied evenl

  • QUEEN OF ASHES: RISE OF THE SCORNFUL EX-WIFE!   Chapter 9

Lisa's POVFinally, the elevator doors slid open with a soft ding, and I stepped out with my chin high. Behind me, I could hear Dominic’s impatient stride, but I didn’t give him the satisfaction of looking back. If anything, his shock was the appetizer I was anticipating for as the main course was waiting in the boardroom.Since I learnt I was going to go up against him in the boardroom, I swung into preparation. After handling official duties at work, I will spend a greater part of my night crafting out strategies and studying every angle of the building project.Unlike Dominic, I didn’t just come armed with charm and ego. I came armed with facts because I was determined to beat him at his game. The moment I stepped into the boardroom, all eyes were shifted to my direction. A half dozen investors sat around the long polished table, their expressions varying from curiosity to genuine surprise. It was clear that they weren't expecting me. “Good morning,” I greeted, smiling warml
