CHAPTER SEVEN - RASMUS

“Nope”

Lars and I were sitting at the long oaken bar in the central hall of the manor house. This had got to be the best part of our renovation.

I downed the rest of my pint and started thinking about what I could drink next. I had a feeling nothing was going to block the shame of failing with Leda quite so spectacularly.

For the second time.

I don’t know what it is about her, but she stupefies me. Literally – I can barely think when I’m around her, let alone form coherent sentences. No wonder I couldn’t express myself the way I wanted to.

My eye caught on the Narwhal Imperial Stout. 10.2%, that’ll help drown out this humiliation. I leant across the bar to reach for it - “Koos kansloos!” Lars suddenly shouted. I think the drink had gone to his head already – he's getting even louder than normal.

“Koos kansloos! Hahahaha! As Lise would say! Hahahaha!” His fiery orange beard jiggled on top of his chest as he laughed his booming laugh. Bitterly, I consoled myself that at least I wasn’
