“Lose it.” The words purr from my mouth as I begged him to let it all go. I had wondered if he was the type to do so. I had seen it once before that very first night we met. The fact that we couldn’t keep it together long enough to make it to my home, his, or a motel… something, and got down and dirty in a bathroom stall told me he could lose. WE could lose it. The last time I was in the back seat of Kale’s car, things got a little out of control. As I climbed in this time, I knew it would be better, considering we took care of our needs already. When I looked over at him he flashed me a crooked smile. “Is there a place you have in mind?” He asked. It was his idea to get a drink, didn’t he have somewhere he wanted to go? I walked into my office on time today. When I stepped off the elevator Shane was right there, by my side, that second cup of coffee in his hand. “Good morning Raine,” He said as he gave me the cup, keeping up in my steps. “Good Morning Shane,” I said, leading the way. “I didn’t realize we were on a first name basis at work.” He smiled. “Yeah, it's just something I’m trying. Besides, I am not the only one that calls you that. You were just trying to keep me in my place.” I chuckled. He had that right. “Why are you so dressed up?” “I didn’t think you’d notice,” he answered. I stopped, turning to face him. He wore black pants and a blue buttoned up tuck in. There was even a matching jacket. Not quite a suit, but not quite casual. His hair was tamed and I could tell he took a few extra minutes on it today. I sat at my desk, going over the first part of the proposal that my team would be giving next week. They planned out a timeline as to when each advertisement would take place, being careful not to have them too close or too far apart. They had a few public ideas on how to advertise Paris as well, everything from a Beer Garden to a Dance Party. To be honest, I loved their ideas and had plenty of thoughts of my own that I could add. There was a knock at the office door. “Come in.” I kept my eyes on the screen of my tablet, scrolling through the power point. “I knew you’d be here hard at work,” the old man's voice spoke out to me. My eyes shifted up quickly, as I got to my feet, seeing Mr. Davis in the door. The first thing that came to mind? I was going to strangle the neck of Karen Aguilar. Kale Spencer and I sat alone at a table in the corner at a coffee shop. My stomach was doing flips and turns, and I was in no mood to enjoy lunch. I ordered water with a lemon wedge at a spot right across the street from Quality Advertising. It made no sense to travel further than that since I wasn’t eating and decided to only give myself thirty minutes for my break. “Do you want to explain what you meant back there?” Kale asked as he waited for his order. Upon exiting the elevator, I told him now wasn’t the time or place to talk about the damage he had just done. I walked ahead, thinking my attitude would be off putting and he’d wander on his own to find lunch. Obviously, that’s not what happened. He instead followed me to my destination, taking a seat with me as if I invited him. He didn’t take the hint. And if he did, he just chose to ignore it. The city is starting to calm, and I am sitting here in my office, my mind going over all the men who have seemed to attach themselves to me. It was a close call for me today. I’ve tried to keep my nose clean and stay out of trouble, but I obviously wasn’t trying hard enough. I had to be honest with myself. I'm not sure if I was the only one feeling this way, but sitting here with these three men was causing my armpits to sweat. Any of them could say something that could make this breakfast a nightmare. Shane and Kale sat across from each other, while Mr. Davis sat across from me. The rustic square table we sat at seemed too small for all four of us, and I wasn't just referring to our sizes, but our attitudes. There was something in the air, and it felt like war."This waitress sure is taking her time isn't she," I murmur underneath my breath. He followed me home, like a lost puppy. He said nothing, but I kept catching him looking at me, stealing his glances. There was something soft in his eyes, as well as concern. When the cab pulled up to my house, I expected him to stay behind, but there he was.
