Chapter 4: Meet Again

DAHLIA

I couldn't move from my spot. I looked shocked that I didn't even care about my image or my expression. After I calmed down, my expression was restored to its harmless and innocent.

I don't know what the hell is happening around me, but all I can say is that everything becomes bullshit! It felt like this kind of event was out of my control. Although I already expected some butterfly effect that would happen if I dared to change even small things in this life, I still can't accept this kind of development!

I never encountered this in my first life! How come Kaleid became my historian professor?! Does that mean I have to see his face every day?!

Damn destiny! Are you playing with me?!

I was internally in a conflict with myself when, suddenly, his eyes glanced in my direction.

For some reason, I couldn't help but shiver at this unknown feeling that I felt. It was like my whole body became weak against the way he looked at me.

Like hell! What the hell is that description?!

If only I could assassinate this man... I gritted my teeth as I endured the feeling of being watched by him.

“Since I'm your Historian Professor now, I'll give you a brief recap of your previous topic with Mr. Torres,” Kaleid spoke without emotion as he retracted his gaze from me, which made me relieved.

I couldn't figure out why he was always looking in my direction! It's not like he remembered our past, right?

“In the year 204, the head of humans and the Alpha King established a contract. It was to establish the unity of the two species. Because of that contract, humans and werewolves lived peacefully together without killing each other. However, despite the contract, there are still werewolves who don't obey the law. They are called rogues. Rogues are those who are banned or kicked in a pack. The pack will no longer have the responsibility to protect a werewolf once they become a rogue, which is why it will also be easy for the rogue hunters to hunt rogues.”

“However, there are also some changes in this world. Demons are becoming bold and will integrate the group of humans and werewolves to kill them or eat them. Werewolves and humans are the top chains in the demon's eyes. Those demons are what we can see outside of the forests who are lurking around, trying to find their prey. Which is why your parents or relatives specifically remind you not to go out at night, especially if you aren't armed or part of the Armed Forces.”

After he was done talking, some of the students boldly raised their hands and asked him.

“Prof, what about mates?”

“I won't talk further about mates since I'm sure that everyone knows the details about it.” Kaleid coldly said, making the student who asked pout.

But he persisted and asked, “Then how do we know if a person is our mate?”

Kaleid coldly looked at him, making the student flinch, but in the end, Kaleid answered his question.

“By scent. You will know that someone is your mate through scent. You would also know if a person is your mate based on your animalistic instincts. You will feel that you are linking to each other. You'll soon know about the feeling once you meet your mate.”

After the class, I headed back to our house. Kaleid's words are still stuck in my head, mates. Come to think of it, in the past, we never discussed mates, since we were focused on exploring the world, killing demons, and spending time with each other. At that time, we only listened to our feelings.

I can't say if Kaleid is my mate. Although we were partners, a lover, and a comrade in the past, I never had the idea of us being mates and we never brought it up to each other, which was why Kaleid never got the chance to mark me in the past.

I shook my head and stopped thinking about it. What happened in the past will remain in the past. There's no need for it to be back in the future.

I snapped back to reality when I heard a familiar annoying voice, calling out my name.

“Dahlia!”

It was none other than Uncle Ben. Compared to earlier, Uncle Ben in front of me had red eyes, and his jaw was tightened. I couldn't help but glance at his fist which was clenched as if he wanted to punch someone and that someone happened to be me.

I smiled at him and softly asked, “What is it, Uncle? It's already late.”

Uncle Ben sneered. “You bitch! You're good at pretending!”

After he said that, he grabbed my wrist and dragged me to the forest. Although it was already six in the evening, the moon shone brightly and it was enough for me to see the ferocious expression that Uncle Ben had on his face.

“W-What do you mean by this, Uncle...” I softly muttered while tears started to brim in my eyes, looking at him with a nervous expression.

However, it seemed that this expression wouldn't fool him anymore. He angrily grabbed my chin, lifted my face, and slapped and slapped the sound of ‘pa’ almost rang around the forest. I couldn't help but groan at the throbbing pain in my left cheek. I could even taste the rust in my mouth.

Endure it, Dahlia.

Uncle Ben angrily looked at me. “How dare you fool me, you bitch!”

“W-What are you talking about, Uncle?” My whole body trembled as I looked at him with horror.

He sneered as he gripped my wrist tightly, making me hiss from the pain. It seemed that he was trying to break my wrist, which I instinctively tried to struggle with.

“If it wasn't because I was keen on danger and I followed my instincts, I would already die because of you! I would also kill someone because of you!” Uncle Ben angrily said as he punched my stomach, which made me churn up.

Damn. It felt like my insides were damaged because of his punch.

I let out a soft chuckle despite the blood in my mouth. I looked him in the eyes.

“Aren't you also trying to kill my father? Your one and only brother? You were trying to kill my father for the sake of the inheritance. It was because my late grandpa had given him such a large amount of inheritance because he is the legitimate child while you are illegitimate—”

Before I finished my words, he threw me on the tree, making me hiss from the pain as I could hear my bone crack.

Uncle Ben looked at me with a malicious gaze. “So what? I deserve it all! That fucking son of a bitch dares to covet what's mine! Pretending to be his family made me want to vomit. I've been itching to kill him! However, it was destroyed because of you!”

I snickered. “Do you think that I would let you harm my father?’ again.

“Heh, if they knew that their daughter is such a two-faced person like you, what do you think they would feel?” Uncle Ben said in a teasing tone while looking at me with a smirk visible on his mouth.

Hearing his words, I flinched. But then, I let out a soft chuckle while wiping the blood from my mouth as I raised my head to look at him.

“Do you think that you will be able to tell them?” I said with meaningful words.

Uncle Ben was immediately angered after knowing the meaning of my words. He angrily kicked my stomach.

“How dare you try to poison me with the gem that you've given me! If I were to kill you right here, right now, and feed you to the demons, do you think someone would know that I'm the one who did it?” Uncle Ben said while snickering.

I chuckled as I dodged his kick. “Why not try and see which one of us will die?”

Before he could continue beating me, I grabbed the nearest stone and, without having a second thought, I slammed the stone on his crotch, making Uncle Ben fall on the ground while screaming with his hands on his crotch.

I took the opportunity to kick him on his stomach and grip his hair to make him look at me.

An evil grin appeared in my mouth as I softly whispered the following words, playfully.

“Let's meet again in hell, Uncle Ben.”
