Chapter 2: The Butterfly Effect

DAHLIA

Just when I was about to turn my back, Uncle Ben caught my wrist, which made me instinctively raise my guard as I emitted such an intense murderous intent.

I felt him freeze, which made me immediately retract my killing intent before he could say something.

I looked at him with a smile on my face and asked, “What is it, uncle?”

He snapped back from reality and looked at me with a frowning look, as if he was inspecting me. I tilted my head and looked at him with curiosity.

“Uncle?”

Uncle Ben shook his head and squeeze smiled at me as he handed the pack of small bottles to me, which made me raise my brows.

“This is for your father. You have to give it to your father, okay?”

I looked at him with curiosity. “What is this, uncle?

Uncle Ben smiled, hiding the disguised malice behind those smiles as he explained it to me carefully.

“That's the medicine that I asked the pack doctor for your injured father. This way, he will be healed faster.”

Disgusting old man.

Disguising himself as a worried old man that seemed to care about my father, he was viciously holding a knife behind his back, waiting to stab my father.

However, despite the anger that resides in my heart, I remained happy and easy-going on the surface.

“Thank you, Uncle!” I exclaimed with excitement flushing in my eyes. Then, I let out a helpless sigh right after. “However, I can't just take this medicine without giving them something...”

“No, no, you don't need to. After all, we are family.” Uncle Ben said with a smile, but his eyes couldn't lie that he was eager to know about what I would give him in exchange.

Seeing him being like this, I couldn't help but mock him secretly.

I took out the small gem from my pocket and gave it to him. “I'm sorry, Uncle... this is all I could give.”

“It's fine, it's fine. This is enough.” Uncle Ben said with a smile without being polite as he took the gem from my hand.

After that, he bid farewell. I calmly looked at his back and let out a snicker.

Then I glanced at the medicine bottles and carefully inspected them, only to find out that they had been dripped with poison.

I am more familiar with this poison since I came into contact with this type of colorless poison in the past.

This type of poison could make someone lose control of themselves and they will be in attack mode. Whoever they see, they will kill them.

This is one of the most forbidden poisons.

That Uncle... where the hell did he get this?

But that didn't matter now. I put these ‘medicines’ in my bag and make sure they won't leak. After all, this ‘medicine’ will be handy in the future.

As soon as I entered the gate, those countless eyes started to burn a hole in me. It was as if I was being judged by the way they looked at me. I felt like I was prey that was walking to its den.

Those vicious eyes, those malicious gazes that they directed towards me... were the same that happened in the past.

It was much worse.

I even experienced sitting on a chair that had thorns on it. I remember being hit by a stone and blood dripping down my head.

The matter that happened around this academy didn't get out. Which was why my parents hadn't learned about what I experienced inside this academy.

When I tried to ask for help from the dean, he just turned a blind eye to my plea and let me become the academy's punching bag. It was all because the dean in this academy is such a greedy man, and those whose families are wealthy would use their money to shut the mouth of the dean.

Whenever I remember my past experiences in this academy, I can't help but feel pity for myself. I was too naive and a people pleaser, which was why I became the easiest target.

“Tsk, I heard his father is injured?”

“Heh, is he going to die?”

“You shouldn't say that. After all, their family is cursed and they are a bit pitiful.”

Cursed. Cursed. Cursed! Those words again and again that they kept on saying to my family!

I clenched my fist as I tried to calm my nerves. No matter what kind of curse they are imputing on my family, I will soon find out about it.

Since mother and father won't tell me about it, I'll just have to investigate it secretly.

In the end, I decided to ignore them. However, just when I was about to walk forward, I suddenly felt a slimy thing slam on the back of my head, making me stop.

Afterward, their laughter rang in my ears.

“Look at her, doesn't it look good at her?”

“Heh, we should have driven them out of this town! They will bring bad luck to us!”

“Right, right, I heard that her mother would eat human flesh.”

When I heard the latter of their words, my last ounce of patience had snapped. I turned my head and calmly looked at the features of the woman who said those words.

A smirk appeared on my lips.

There you are, Vivian. I've been waiting for you to show up.

My dearest friend betrayed me and even told me that I was a demon who would soon bring bad luck to this village. The one who took the initiative to burn our house together with my parent's corpses! They didn't even let me take my parents and directly burn their lifeless bodies, they kept on saying that it was the right way to drive away the bad luck.

They weren't even satisfied with that, they dragged me down and tortured me for a whole week.

If it wasn't for my ability to play dead in any situation, I would never have been able to escape that hell! It was just fortunate they didn't burn me, but rather they just threw me into the forest. Letting my body be eaten by those vicious beasts.

I looked at them teary-eyed.

“N-No, you got it wrong... my mother isn't like that...” I softly murmured with tears falling on my cheeks, paired with my docile eyes, which made me more pitiful and innocent.

Some of them looked at me with frowns and they were even looking at me with pitiful gazes.

“They said that your family is cursed. Do you know about this?” One of the people in the crowd asked while looking at me.

I carefully wiped my tears as I looked at her and shook my head. “N-No... although we have just come here for six months, we aren't a family of demons nor are we cursed.”

“If you're not a demon, why haven't you manifested to a wolf just like us when your mother was a werewolf?” One of them asked as they looked at me with vigilance.

So is it because of this that they think my family is cursed? That I am the curse?

I pursed my lips as I let my tears slide down my cheeks as I looked at him with a helpless sigh.

“I'm a late bloomer werewolf... my father is a human and my mother is a werewolf, which made me a hybrid myself...”

As soon as they heard my explanation, some of them scattered away and they had their bored looks plastered on their faces as if nothing interesting news would make them feel alive again.

These people only want gossip. They want something interesting about their past.

They would also easily lose interest if they knew the reason behind the scandals.

Soon, all of them were back to business. It wasn't until I heard the frightening screams of those girls who seemed to be fangirling over someone.

“DAMN! I'VE SEEN KALEID IN THE DEAN'S OFFICE JUST NOW!”

“What?! Holy shit! Is he going to transfer to this school?!”

“Damn, he's so handsome!”

I gritted my teeth in annoyance because of their shrieks, yet I had a friendly smile on my face.

However...

Kaleid?

What the hell is going on here? I've never encountered anything like this in the past. After all, I met Kaleid when I was already a rogue. I encountered him in the forest after I was thrown away.

Come to think of it, I don't know Kaleid even though we've spent one year together. All I know about him is that he is an Alpha. Other than his name, there's none.

My brows furrowed as I looked at the dean's office with confusion.

Is this what they call the butterfly effect?
