Thirty minutes and an intense but silent car ride later, I parked the car in front of the supermarket where I had bought the lottery ticket.

There were two places I could redeem the lottery. From the lottery commission headquarters, or from the supermarket I had bought the ticket from.

Most people expected me to go to the headquarters, so I knew the building would be full of people and paparazzi.

When we stepped out of the car, I let out a groan. For once, I was glad I was wearing a disguise.

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   GET OUT!

Kara's POVFor a moment, after the two of them walked into the hospital room like they owned the place, nobody said anything. We were all too shocked to.“Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on here?” Ethan’s voice and tone was filled with so much pride, it hurt my ears just to hear them. The moment he spoke, Detective Blackwell, the only one who hadn’t bothered to look up from his journal, finally did look up. His expression shifted from an impassive expression on his face to a frown. The female detective standing near the window also turned around. Even the doctor, who had been looking for a way to stay hidden close to the door, was now completely engrossed in the conversation. As for me, I simply stared at the two people who had walked into my room with anger in my eyes.I knew Ethan had been called, I had even been preparing to send him out of my room when he arrived. But why the fuck had he brought Sarah with him?And why was she looking at me with a smirk on the corner of

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   BLACK EYES

The moment I heard the doctor’s last words, my smile disappeared off my face.“My husband?” I asked. There was something in my tone now that made him freeze. He could clearly sense my anger in those two words. But by the way, he turned around to stare at me, he was definitely confused.“Yes, is that bad?” Doctor Brown asked, his tone curious now, “We got some details about you from Mr. Harris, and the moment we checked your file and saw your next of kin, we immediately contacted him. It is standard procedure when someone is admitted with a gun wound. After all, we assumed that -”“I don't want to see him.” I cut in before he could keep on going about standard procedure. The doctor blinked, still shocked. “He is your husband, right? Or did we get that wrong?”I shook my head, “Right now, he is my husband, but we are getting divorced,” I answered, “There’s actually no reason for him to be here. I don’t want him here.”The doctor looked at me for a moment, clearly trying to understand wha

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   YOU ARE A MIRACLE

Kara's POVThe entire world hurt so bad.My mind was muddled, and my nerves were practically on fire.I woke up with a grunt, but couldn’t open my eyes, because it felt so heavy. I tried again to push through the dull headache that I felt hammering away in my skull. But even after a couple of long, arduous seconds, my eyelids still felt far too heavy.“What the hell?”I hissed under my breath, and with an immense force of will, I forced my eyes open. For the next few seconds, I regretted that decision. The moment my eyes opened, light flooded in so fast that I quickly closed them back. It took about a minute before I was able to open them again, but this time, I was much slower. The very first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was white. The ceilings were white, the walls were white, even most of the curtains were white. The very next thing I noticed was a strange smell, one that I quickly realized was a mix of sterilizers and antibacterial sprays. My eyes grew wide. I was in a hospita

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   WHO TRIED TO KILL ME?

Harris' POV: The moment he heard my scream, the driver smashed his foot against the accelerator, and the SUV immediately shot forward.“Kara!” I tightened my arm around her and held her as the vehicle sped through the road.Blood still continued to seep from the wound on her shoulders, but her expression was more rosy than it was just a moment ago.I let out a sigh of relief. At least, her life was not in extreme danger.I didn’t keep on shaking her. I knew that would do more bad than good, so I just held her tight, not even moving as her blood began to seep through my fingers.“Stay with me, Kara.” I whispered under my breath, “Stay with me.”There was no response. I wasn’t expecting one, but somehow, I still felt disappointed.“Go faster,” I yelled again as I tore my gaze away from her and turned towards my driver,“I’m going as fast as I can, sir,” he answered, his voice shaky and his tone filled with panic.“Then go faster.” I roared,His response was a resolute nod, as he began t

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   ATTACK

Harris' POV:The shot that broke the window, almost broke me too.The moment I heard Kara’s scream, I turned around to face her. My eyes widened the moment I saw the blood around her shoulder and her hand. For one terrifying second, I couldn't breathe.“Kara.” I screamed, pushing her down, so she wouldn’t be hit by more bullets,“Drive,” I screamed at my driver, who immediately slammed his foot down on the accelerator.Even though my SUV was faster than the cars of the attackers, I knew it wouldn’t be easy to escape.I called out her name again before she looked up at me with a pale expression on her face. Her eyes were wide with shock. This was clearly the first time she had been shot.I kept my hand on her shoulder, and began to press softly on the wound where the bullet had hit her. The sight of her blood sent something cold through my chest.“Stay down!” I shouted. “We will be out of here soon.”I couldn’t even finish my words before another burst of gunfire erupted outside. The dr

  • REBIRTH: SEVEN DAYS BEFORE DOOMSDAY   SHOT DOWN

I blinked and froze up completely. For the next few seconds, I just stared at him without saying anything. I was trying very hard to be sure that I had actually heard him correctly. Was he asking me out on a date? Or was this just dinner between colleagues?I had no idea, but something was telling me that it was meant to be the former.I was stuck in my dilemma for a while, and Harris just kept silent, content to let me decide on an answer.I was shocked by just how easily he had moved on from what had just happened to us. It was like to him, going to dinner was the most natural progression for our day.Eventually, I decided to answer his question with a question of my own.“Are you actually asking me out to dinner? Or are you just trying to be a gentleman?Harris smiled, “Yes, I am actually asking you out to dinner.”“Now?” I was still too shocked to think straight,He chuckled. “Yes now,” he answered, “Do you have any problem with that, or did you have another evening plan?”I blinke
