At 06:07, EVA spoke.

"Movement. Camera 3. Two infected, 300 meters north. Slow. Not tracking Killian. Killian Thorne is 200 meters from bunker, heading east, speed 4 kilometers per hour. Heart rate 98. Stable."

I sat on the floor, back against steel wall, hands on my belly. Twin A kicked low, Twin B kicked high. They knew their father was outside.

Bianca was in medical bay, feeding Tiny Elena. 15 milliliters, then stop. 15 milliliters every hour. At 1.48 kilograms, her stomach was size of a walnut. Too much would kill her.

"She took it," Bianca whispered. "All 15. She is hungry, Elena."

At 06:14, EVA again.

"Killian Thorne 500 meters out. Stopping. Infected ahead, 50 meters. Three. He is crouching behind abandoned truck. Holding. Heart rate 112."

My heart matched his. 112. I could feel it.

"EVA, can he hear us?" I asked.

"Radio open. Channel 7. He can hear you. Short message only. Batteries low."

I pressed radio button. "Killian, 3 ahead. Wait."

Static. Then his whisper, breath cold. "I see them. They are feeding. I will go around. Don't worry. Stay locked."

At 06:22, he moved again. EVA updated every minute.

"06:22, Killian 800 meters. Clear.

06:28, Killian 1.2 kilometers. Infected count 18 per square kilometer in that sector. Moderate.

06:33, Killian 1.8 kilometers. He has stopped at Shell station edge. Drone supply drop should be visible from there. Scanning."

Bianca came out holding Tiny Elena to her chest, kangaroo care. The baby was skin to skin, 1.48 kilograms of warm fight. Bianca's tears fell on her tiny head.

"She is warm," Bianca said. "38.1 degrees. Still okay. But she needs formula. Real premature formula. Powdered milk will kill her kidneys."

At 06:41, Killian's voice on radio, excited but low.

"I see it. Red parachute. 100 meters. In open field. But... Elena... 6 infected around it. They are stuck on parachute. Circling."

Six. Six around formula that would keep 1.48 kilogram baby alive for 60 days.

I pressed radio. "Don't. Come back. 6 is too many."

"No," he said. "I came for this. I will make noise on other side. Lure them."

"Killian, no! Promise me no hero!"

He did not answer for 10 seconds. Then EVA cut in.

"Killian Thorne throwing rock at 06:42. Audio detected. Infected reacting, moving west, 4 of 6 moving. 2 remaining at drop."

"Now 2," I breathed. "He can do 2."

At 06:44, radio crackled, loud, running.

"I got it! I got the box! 12 cans! And oxygen! But no time! 4 coming back!"

Sound of rifle. One shot. Then two more. Then breathing hard.

"Killian? Killian!" I screamed into radio.

"I'm... I'm hit? No. Not hit. They grabbed pack. Tore one can. I have 11 cans. And I got chain. Silver chain with cross. Was near drop. Must be Keon's. He must have crawled close. I have it!"

Bianca gasped behind me. "Chain? He found chain?"

At 06:51, EVA shouted, not calm voice, emergency voice.

"WARNING. Infected horde, 14, moving fast from north to Killian position. Triggered by gunfire. Killian Thorne must run now. Distance to bunker 3.2 kilometers. His speed must be 7 kilometers per hour minimum to outrun. Current speed 5. Advising drop heavy items."

"DROP NOTHING!" I shouted into radio. "Killian, run! Bring formula! Bring chain! Run!"

We heard him running, backpack bouncing, breathing.

"02 minutes to bunker perimeter if he keeps speed," EVA said. "Horde speed 6 kilometers per hour. Close."

At 07:02, Camera 1 flickered. White fog. Then a shape. Running.

"Visual! Killian Thorne, 100 meters! 11 cans visible! Chain visible around neck! Horde behind, 200 meters, 14 infected!"

"EVA, OPEN! OPEN NOW!" I screamed.

"Cannot open until horde distance 50 meters plus. Protocol. Wait."

"OPEN!"

Steel door stayed SEALED. Red light.

Killian reached door at 07:03, banging. "OPEN! OPEN!"

Behind him, 14 shadows in fog, running, moaning, Day 88 mimic voices screaming "OPEN! OPEN!" copying his voice.

EVA finally: "Horde 60 meters. Opening now."

Door opened 30 centimeters. Killian squeezed, backpack first.

I pulled him, Bianca pulled, formula cans fell, clattering.

Door closed. SEALED.

Silence. Then EVA.

"07:04, bunker sealed. 14 infected outside door, banging. Killian Thorne heart rate 156, minor laceration left arm, not infected. Inventory: 11 cans premature formula intact, 1 damaged, 2 oxygen tanks, silver chain with cross recovered. Mission success rate 89 percent. Infant Elena Thorne weight 1.48 kilograms now has 55 days of formula."

Killian lay on floor, chest heaving, chain in fist, bleeding. He opened hand. Silver cross, bloody.

Bianca fell to knees, took it, held to Tiny Elena's tiny hand, 1.48 kilograms holding her father's cross.

"He brought it," Bianca whispered, crying. "Keon came home."

I knelt, hands on belly, twins kicking wildly, feeling their father back, alive.

The next day, I woke up feeling happy.Yesterday was a good day. Nobody fought. Everybody was calm. Damian even helped Bianca. I thought maybe he had really changed.I was wrong.I woke up in Killian's arms again. He was already awake, watching me."Good morning, my love," he whispered. He kissed my forehead."Good morning," I said. I smiled. "Today I feel strong. The twins did not disturb me too much last night."He smiled. "Good. That means they slept well."He helped me to sit up. He held my back."Eva," he said, "turn on the camera and audio for our room."But Eva did not answer.Killian frowned. "Eva?"Still no answer. The room was quiet. The small light on the wall was not blinking like it used to.Killian stood up. He walked to the speaker. "Eva, are you there?"Nothing.I looked at him. "Killian, what happened to Eva?"He shook his head. "I don't know. Let me check."He walked to the main room. I followed him slowly.Leo was already awake. Bianca was holding Tiny Elena. Damian

I slept in the afternoon. Not deep sleep. Just small rest, the way Killian always tells me to rest. His hand was still on my belly when I woke up. He had not left me.He was sitting beside the bed, watching me. When he saw my eyes open, he smiled."You are awake, my love," he said softly. "Did you sleep well?""yes, I did," I said. "The twins were kicking me. I think they don't want me to sleep."He laughed small. "They are like their father. Stubborn."I laughed too. "Killian, so you know that you're stubborn."He helped me to sit up slowly. He held my back, the way he always does. He gave me water. Eva had already prepared warm water through the automated kitchen. Killian brought it to me himself. He does not let anyone else to bring water for me. He likes to bring it himself."Drink slowly," he said.I drank slowly. He watched me."Eva," he said, "turn on the camera and audio for the main room."Eva answered, "Yes, Killian. Main room camera on."We could hear Leo laughing in the ma

The door closed behind them.I stood there for a few seconds, just looking at the door. My hand was still in the air, where Killian's hand was before.I felt empty immediately. Even though I know he will come back, my heart always beats fast when he goes outside.Bianca looked at me. "Are you okay?" she asked.I nodded. "Yes. I am okay. I just... I always worry when he goes out.""I understand," she said. "I used to worry like that too."Leo pulled my dress small. "Elena, don't worry. Killian is strong. He will beat everybody."I smiled. "I know, Leo. He is strong."I sat down slowly on the chair. My belly was heavy this morning. The twins were moving small small. I placed my hand on my belly to calm them."Eva," I said, "show me outside camera."Eva answered, "Yes, Elena. Showing outside camera now."The small screen on the wall came on. I could see Killian and Damian walking outside. The outside was quiet. The sun was just coming up. The road was empty. No raiders. No noise. Only th

CHAPTER 29: THE MORNING AFTERI woke up slowly. The room was still dim. The soft light from the wall was still on low, the way Killian likes it at night. I did not open my eyes at first. I just stayed there, listening. His breathing was steady. His arm was still around me. His hand was still on my belly. He had not moved all night.I opened my eyes a little. He was awake and was looking at me."Good morning, my love," he whispered.I smiled. "Good morning. You still did not sleep?"He smiled back. "I didn't sleep much. But I woke up early to watch you. You were sleeping like an angel again."I laughed small. "Killian, you always say that.""Because it is true," he said. He kissed my forehead. "How is your body? Did the twins disturb you at night?""just a little" I said. "They kicked once, then they slept again. I think they like sleeping on your chest too."He laughed. His laugh was low and soft, so it would not wake the whole bunker. He rubbed my belly slowly, in small circles. "Goo

  • REBORN 7 DAYS BEFORE MY BILLIONAIRE HUSBAND LEFT ME TO DIE    CHAPTER 29: BACK TO OUR ROOM

It was bedtime in Bunker 3.Everyone had already cleaned up. The day had been long and heavy, and the bunker finally felt quiet. Killian had washed off the mud from the run. Leo had washed his hands and face, and his shoes were by the door drying. Damian had wiped his pipe clean and kept it beside him. Bianca had changed Tiny Elena's small cloth, and the baby was now resting peacefully. The generator was steady. Eva had dimmed the lights for the night, and the whole bunker had that soft, sleepy feeling.I was in the inner room with Bianca and little Elena to make sure that her body is finally calm and at the same I was waiting for Killian to finish up so we can go back to our room. Tiny Elena was asleep on Bianca's chest. Her fever had gone down. Her little chain was still around her neck, resting gently against Bianca's skin. Bianca looked tired, but she looked peaceful too, the way a mother looks when her baby is finally sleeping. Then Killian came in.He did not whisper. He spoke

The drum changed everything. After Killian dragged it in and Damian sealed the three locks, Eva connected the fuel line herself. She is not just a voice on the speaker. She has arms in the walls. She plugged it in, checked the pressure, and the generator stopped coughing. The yellow light got brighter. Not bright like before the world ended, but steady. No more flicker."Power stable at 68%," Eva said. "We can run the incubator now."Bianca looked up from the mattress. Tiny Elena was in her arms, burning up. Her little body was hot, too hot. She had been crying in that small, tired way for hours, and her breathing was fast."We need to build it now," Bianca said.Killian was already moving. He had been saving parts for this for weeks — a clear plastic box from the old clinic, a small heater, some wires, a soft blanket. Damian, even with his arm still sore from the Day 1 bite, helped him carry the box to the inner room. Today is Day 88, he is almost recovered, so he could lift with one
