Chapter 8

PIPER

“Summoned?” I asked the maid, to be sure I heard her correctly.

“Yes, Princess Faye. Alpha Sage summons you to his chamber.” She said, bowing her head.

“Right now?” I asked, it's barely six in the morning, why would Sage want to see me?

“Yes, Princess Faye. I will take you there if you need me to.”

My grip on the door loosened as my palm turned sweaty. But what does he want? Why would he summon me to his bedroom?

“Give me a minute,” I said and closed the door behind me.

I hurried into my bathroom, staring at my reflection in the mirror. It startled me for a second. I still wasn't used to this new face and features, yet I wanted to look presentable to Sage.

Is this because of what I learned last night? Or Remi’s instruction was just kicking in.

My hair looked fine, which was strange for a messy sleeper like me. I rinsed my face and mouth before stepping out. Well, I guess I had the opportunity to put on something without the maids picking it out for me. I settled for a white maxi dress, something to blend in with the fresh morning. The dress outlined my nipples, which seemed to look a little bit seductive to me.

I guess it begins here.

I slipped on some flip-flops before returning to the door. But as soon as I opened it, I paused.

The maid was gone, nowhere in sight; instead, it was Kaius. Our eyes locked and my heart skipped a beat. Seeing him again made me recall the night he came to my room, the little moment we had with his hands on my waist.

Kaius looked like he had just woken up, his hair seemed damp from having a shower, and it fell on his face in smooth curls, which caught my attention. I wanted to touch and feel them, and perhaps his pinkish lips as well.

Oh Piper!

His silver eyes had traces of dark circles, yet they outshone them, sparkling like the stars in the night sky.

“Good morning Princess Faye.”

I gulped, repeatedly blinking as I looked away. “Morning,” I muttered, surprised I couldn't raise my voice.

“I am here to take you to Alpha Sage.” He revealed and I nodded.

He led me through the corridor and we stopped before a large oak door. Kaius pushed the door open and stepped aside for me to walk in.

I did, despite the chaos happening inside my head. Sage's room was a reflection of him. Dark and cold, the wall was painted in grey, and the furniture was mostly black. The morning light dripping in from the two large windows lightened up the dark interior and made it less eerie.

I heard scraping noises and tilted to see Sage getting off his chair. He looked mighty and cold as always, his face stoic and not welcoming.

He walked over to me, hands behind his back. I didn't know what to do, so I lowered my head in a bow. “Good morning Alpha.”

He didn't respond, instead, he reached for my face, caressing my temple down to my jaw. “Why are you…” He paused and looked behind me, “Excuse us,” he said, and I turned to see Kaius standing by the door. I didn't realize he was still there.

A part of me didn't want him to leave, but there was nothing I could do other than watch him leave.

Sage's voice made me turn back to him, “The council…” he began, his brows creased. “...will be needing your opinion on an issue they need to resolve. The meeting will be held in the central hall at 5pm today. I believe you would show up and prove your importance to not just the council but the pack as a whole.”

My opinion? What do I possibly know about running a pack, and why does the council even need me? Is this some kind of test to prove if the princess is fit to be Luna or what?

“Okay,” I replied, short of words. I needed to speak with Kaela, or perhaps find Flynn and try to get out some tangible information from him.

I didn't realize Sage was staring at me until I felt his hand on my shoulder, he slowly traced his fingers down to my chest, brushing against my nipple.

My heart flew out of my chest and my body stiffened, shivers running down my spine.

His fingers stopped just beneath my breast, “As the future Luna of SilverWolf, it is your duty to dress appropriately when outside your chambers.” He pinched my boobs causing me to gasp as my heart sank in embarrassment.

“I won't be so lenient with you next time.” He finally retracted his hand and stepped back.

“5pm, do not be late, the council will not tolerate tardiness from their future Luna.” With that said he walked back to his desk.

I turned and hurried out of the room, my heart pounding in my chest. All of a sudden, I felt naked. I wrapped my hand around my chest, hurrying back to my room.

What was I thinking, dressing to seduce a man who yearns for another? Tears burned the back of my eyes, and it made me angry.

Why am I getting teary? Is it because I failed to seduce him? Or because I know I might never be good enough? I hated the multiple questions that kept popping into my head with no answer in sight.

I got to my room and met Kaela setting up the table with her herbs by the window. Without thinking, I ran to her, crashing into her arms for a comforting hug, anything that would make me feel less stupid.

“Princess, what's wrong?”

I didn't reply, not because I didn't know what to say, but because I couldn't find my voice, I wanted to tell her, but the sobs came in between.

*Don't cry, Piper. I believe our mate needs time to adjust…” I shut out Nara before she could finish her words.

If she chooses to be nonchalant, then so be it, but I am not, and all of this is upsetting.

Sage has Sloane, she's everything he needs, so what am I going to be? A wife only for show, a Luna only for the people not for her own Alpha.

If Sage doesn't want his mate, then he can go to hell. I have options as well and I am definitely going to go for them.

Chapter 9PIPERBy 4pm, I was already seated in the gigantic hall. Kaela stood by my side even after pestering her to take a seat. The council wasn't here yet, so we still had time to discuss. “Do you think I should be seated here? I mean, what if they ask me to switch seats, or what if Alpha Sage shows up and I have to leave the head chair?” Kaela shook her head, smiling in her usual gentle way. “Alpha Sage informing you about this meeting says something. He respects the council, he listens to their words, and if he has chosen to inform you of a meeting to be held with them. Then believe me, you belong on this chair.”“If you say so.” I sighed, feeling the heat of anxiety settle in my bones. I believed her, I just wasn't sure if I truly belonged on it. We still had about 30 more minutes before the arrival of the council. Kaela already briefed me on how to compose myself around them, so I just had to take note and try to remember the essentials.“So Shantel is the first chosen, she

This isn't Sloane's scent; it's the princess’s. Her scent was as intoxicating as the first day we met at the gym.I pulled away from Sloane, tilting my head to both sides, but there was no sight of her. I knew she was here, hiding somewhere perhaps.“What is it?” Sloane asked, bringing my attention back to her. “Nothing,” I replied, fixing my shirt and wiping my lips. “Your face tells me otherwise, my Lord.” Sloane said, reaching for my face. “You can tell me what is bothering you, just like you have been doing for the past nine years.” “I said it's nothing.” I repeated calmly ,"Join the council, the meeting will begin soon.” I said and walked away. Heading back to my office. I pushed the door open and found Kaius seated and patiently waiting. “Thought you started the meeting without me…” he said with a tired glaze in his eyes.

Chapter 6PIPERI tried to sleep, but each time I closed my eyes, I saw them, tangled in each other's arms, I heard their breaths, the smacking of their lips, that lady's moan. I hated it, hated how it made me feel. One question kept running through my mind.‘Why?’I am his betrothed, we are to be married in, like, a few weeks or something, so why is he hooking up with some warrior lady? Is this how he behaves? Or is she the only one? There was a knock on the door, but I didn't bother to respond. I didn't want anyone flapping into my room, not even the maids who had been tasked to bring me lunch or dinner.“Princess, it's me. Kaela.” Kaela? I remembered telling her to leave because I was angry she kept such a cruel truth from me, but over the hours that passed, I thought about everything she did. She was only trying to protect me, but why does it matter, sooner or later, I ought to know that Sage has someone else, someone he loves. My chest burned at the thought. I am his mate, but

Chapter 5PIPERThe next day, I was feeling a lot better and more refreshed than I had been in years. Five maids showed up in my room to make my bath, serve me breakfast, and clean my room. I was relieved, knowing I wouldn't have breakfast with Sage or Kaius. My mood brightened when Kaela showed up, and I had the same concoction. She wanted to leave immediately, but I stopped her. “How well do you know the Pack house?” I asked, striking up a conversation after noticing she didn't want to talk to me. “I live here, Faye, I have a room in the west wing,” she replied, wearing her charming smile.“Do you mind showing me around? If…it's not going to be a problem for you.” “Not at all, prin…Faye.”Kaela’s lips curved into that easy smile of hers, and I felt relieved. She didn’t seem to be in a hurry anymore. She led me out of my room, “Let’s start from here,” she said, gesturing toward the tall double doors at the end of my room’s hallway. “You are in the east wing, the Alpha resides h

Chapter 4PIPERI didn't know how long I slept, but a soft feminine voice woke me up. A beautiful silver-eyed lady was staring back at me, her features were heavenly, a beauty out of this world, the gentle smile tugging at her lips, made her look even more beautiful.“You’re awake, Princess Faye?” She said, settling on a chair, I didn't notice was close to my bed. “Yeah,” I said, sitting upright. Who are you?” I asked, unable to hold back my curiosity. “I am Kaela, the pack's healer. I came to check your wounds, but you were asleep so I decided to wait.” She explained in the most soothing voice I had ever heard.“How long did you have to wait?” I asked, searching for the clock, but caught how dark it was from the window.“Not that long.” She responded, reaching down, she pulled up a brown bag, “It's time I attend to your wounds. I heard you had a great fall, do you still feel pain?” “No…I mean, yes.” I nodded, “Yes I feel pain.” Everyone believes Princess Faye is in pain because tha
