Chapter Six

Violet held her ground, glaring coldly back at Jack.

Jack sneered in her face, “You think you can come in here and play big shot with a fake card?!”

He was yelling and this attracted attention from other customers in the sales office. They all looked towards them with interest, some even had their phones up recording what was going on.

Violet’s jaw clenched in anger, but her voice was deathly calm, “Jack Harlow, are you out of your mind?!”

Jack laughed.

Seeing that he now had an audience, he puffed up his chest and went on, “Violet, you’re just a loser wife who hands all her money to her husband. Where on earth would you get the money to purchase an eighty-million dollar property?!” he went on arrogantly, whipping out his own card, “You’re a poor orphan with no inheritance as well. Do you think you can fool us all?”

He placed the card on the table before the sales agent, “Swipe it,” he uttered cockily.

The sales agent quickly collected it, “Yes sir.”

He was really eager to carry out the order.

Judging from Jack’s looks and chain, he looked like he could afford the property. His commission would definitely top over this!

“Excuse me, I asked for the property first,” Violet said, her cold gaze making the sales agent freeze.

But the next second, he sighed in annoyance, “Miss, be truthful. You can’t afford it.” he uttered in a patronizing voice, “You’re still too young, and your husband isn’t even here. Let’s not waste each other’s time, okay?”

“You!…”

Violet clenched her fists as Jack laughed at her.

The sales against ignored her and went on to swipe the card.

He would obviously prioritize the young man over the miss who was dressed in faded jeans and cheap blouse any day.

A loud pinging sound cut through the air, “Transaction declined. Insufficient funds.”

Everyone froze, and Jack’s smile faded, replaced by a look of disbelief. He stared at the sales agent who was confused as well.

“Swipe it again,” he growled. He’d only gotten this card from his newest sugar mama, a big corporation matriarch.

How could it have insufficient funds?

Jack wiped his forehead. He knew the humiliating things he’d had to go through to get this card.

The sales agent swiped the card again and the same automated message came again.

The sales agent was impatient now and he threw the card into the table, “Are you kidding me?!”

Jack could not believe his eyes. He’d never been so humiliated in his life.

“H…hold on…” he glanced back at Violet, who wore a calm expression that seemed mocking to him. He sucked in a huge breath of anger and whipped out his cellphone. While he fumbled with his contacts, Violet stepped forward.

Calmly, she swiped the card in the machine herself and there came a satisfying ping.

“Transaction successful! Payment received!”

Everyone gasped, and all the color drained from Jack’s face.

“You! How did you have so much money?!” He screamed at her, “You must have stolen from Elias…no, Elias is too broke!…How?!”

He glared at Violet again, looking like he would burst from anger.

He stalked towards her, “You want to tell me your crappy department store job gave you that money? Or…” he let out a dramatic gasp, and scoffed in disbelief, “…did you land a sugar daddy or something? You’re cheating on Elias?!”

Suddenly, there were whispers all around them, as people stared at Violet, pointing and whispering behind their palms.

Violet was so furious she felt like smacking Jack across his face. How dare he throw his disgusting lifestyle upon her?

That was the reality of society. Jack was comfortable with using his good looks to woo elderly women, but he dared to turn it to a weapon of shame and scandal when it came to Violet.

Without wasting a beat, she slapped Jack hard across his face, “You disgusting parasite! Do you think I’m like you, a freaking gigolo who sleeps with old women and steal their money?!”

Gasps filled the room once more, and even the sales agent recoiled in disgust.

What the hell?! This good looking guy before him was a male escort?!

Eww. No wonder. He did look like a gigolo.

This sort of comments filtered through the air from the onlookers, and Jack felt like sinking into the ground. He’d never expect that Violet would expose his lifestyle.

Hell, he had never expected that she knew about it, and that she would even slap him or stand on her ground against him.

Hatred burned through him, and he clenched his fists at his side in fury, “Violet, you…”

Violet turned away from him, cutting his useless statement.

“Take me to my property,” she said to the sales agent, who immediately snapped to attention. The man was all smiles now as led Violet out of the office and to her car.

All through the journey, he fussed and fawned over her, hyping up the property and praising her for her thoughtfulness in buying the property.

Violet did not pay him any mind. To her, the sales agent was too shallow. Once she was done with this deal, there was no need for them to meet again.

Rosehaven was exactly as the property details had stated it would be. She and the sales agent spent two hours going over the property grounds and checking out everything.

The house was in good condition but it was worthless against the extreme heat apocalypse.

Staying in a brick giant like this in 165•F heat was practically an oven. She would need to do some major renovations on the house and the bunker, and turn it into an impenetrable but safe fortress.

Soon, she signed the papers to the house and the sales agent went on his way. Walking into the three story mansion, she was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was fully furnished.

She, however, still needed to modify the house.

Just as she plopped down on a cream colored sofa, the blue translucent screen appeared before her eyes once more.

[Congratulations host: Fortress purchase task completed. You have been granted access to the Eden Dimension!]

Violet sat up straighter on the sofa, her heart pounding in exhilaration.

The Eden Dimension? What the hell was that?

She picked the access option and the next second, she disappeared from her sitting position.

Violet’s eyes widened in awe as she stared at the sight before her.

She was standing in a beautiful open landscape.

High above her were clear blue skies about fifty or sixty stories tall. Before her were hills and mountains, with a clear waterfall flowing into a river below.

The land on which she was standing was huge with black, fertile soil in rolling fields, perfect for planting. All round the space seemed to be about 50 acres wide.

The screen appeared before her once more.

This time it was a panel, on which were several options to pick and unlock.

Dimension upgrade, tasks, apocalypse survival kit, armory…

What the hell?!

[Welcome, Host, To The Eden Dimension! Host can upgrade dimension, make purchases and prepare for doomsday here. Find tasks and rewards in the survival section!]

Violet clamped her mouth over her mouth and squealed excitedly behind it, her eyes wide with joy.

This…This was perfect!

Her relationship with Evelyn had been strained as Evelyn saw she was not as compliant as Violet, and Bianca thought Evelyn was an insufferable, old woman.
